Comparison of the Polish translation of the novel "Konec punku v Helsinkách" with the original Czech version

ŠEMBEROVÁ, DARIA. Comparison of the Polish translation of the novel "Konec punku v Helsinkách" with the original Czech version. Praha: Charles University. Faculty of Arts, 2015. The thesis deals with the issue of translatability of colloquial Czech elements and lexical Germanisms into the Polish language using the comparison of the novel Konec punku v Helsinkách by Jaroslav Rudiš and its Polish translation. The theoretical part briefly discusses the literary work of Jaroslav Rudiš, stratification of Czech and Polish national language, colloquial Czech and its use in literature and literary translation, lexical Germanisms in Czech as well as basic issues of translation of literary works. The practical part of the thesis deals with a critical analysis of the Polish translation of the novel by Jaroslav Rudiš regarding the mentioned aspects. Maxim Osipov. Meeting. Annotated translation.

The aim of this Master Thesis is to present an annotated literary translation of two chapters of the novella Vstrecha from Maxim Osipov's book, Grech zhalovatsya. The first part of this Master Thesis contains a translation of selected chapters from the novella Vstrecha. The second part, a commentary on the translation, includes information about the author and his work, style classification, the role of translation, vocabulary, intertextuality, characterization of translation methods, strategy of solving translation problems and typology of translation shifts.

A commented translation of slovenian book: Jasmin B. Frelih Ideoluzije

The goal of this diploma thesis is to create an annotated Czech translation of a literary text. Specifically, the selected three short stories from the collection Ideoluzije (2015) by a Slovenian writer Jasmin B. Frelih. The stories chosen for translation are De Nachtwacht, Vrabci and Pritisk konca. The first part of the thesis briefly introduces the author and his work. The main focus of the work is the translation of selected short stories and creating a professional commentary. The theoretical-practical part deals with individual phenomena that may be problematic in translation, such as neologisms, vulgarisms, interjections, etc. The theoretical interpretation is supported by examples from the short stories. This thesis aims to clarify translation procedures and methods as well as to present solutions to the problems mentioned.

Poems to Czechia by Marina Cvetajeva in czech translations

This bachelor thesis revolves around the poetry collection Verse Cecham from the author M. Cvetajevova. The main aim of the thesis is to compare the Czech translation of Jana Stroblova and Jiri Turek and describe its relationship with the original. Furthermore, it is to describe the different approaches in translating, its evaluation and comparison. The theoretical part focuses on defining of the artistic translation and the theory of the translation as a specific discipline, introduction of the persona of Marina Cvetajova and both of the Czech translators. The practical part includes a comparative analysis based on the discovered information; it revolves around the chosen aspects of the poems and their partial as well as overall evaluation.

Low Lexicon of Contemporary Russian Prose and Its Possible Translation into Czech

The main aim of the thesis is to discuss a task of translation of low lexicon (esp. vulgarism) from Russian into Czech. Low lexion discussed in the thesis is based on texts of contemporary russian prose written by V. Kozlov. At first we compare both national languages especially their sociolects and specific layer of vulgarism. This layer is then analyzed in Russian and in Czech, which allow us to understand common and different fields in it. There is no direct equivalent in Czech to russian mat (a layer of highly expressive lexicon in Russian). According to functional equvalence we can show the way, how to substitute this lack of expressive lexicon in translation to Czech.

Canon of Anglophone Literatures in the Czech Context

English Summary The present thesis deals with the various ways in which Anglophone literatures form their canon(s) in the Czech context. In doing so, it treats literature as one inseparable whole, consisting of poetry, prose and literary criticism. The latter is not understood as auxiliary literature, but rather as a self-sufficient form that deserves equal attention to so-called "creative writing"; after all, all the three major literary forms inevitably participate in canon formation, albeit in their own respective ways. The process of canon formation takes different turns and yields different results in the original, i.e. Anglophone, milieu and in the Czech context - and the canons that thus arise differ as well. Moreover, the debate on canons is always being complicated by their essentially unstable, variable nature; by definition, the process of canon formation is unfinished and interminable. Canons are not to be viewed as the be-all and end-all of literary analysis but rather as guideposts, useful tools that stimulate further study and permanently invite questioning and revisions of themselves. In spite of this fundamental - and quite simple - purpose, the literary canon is an extremely complex and intricate concept. Czech Translations of The Government Inspector by N.V.Gogol

The bachelor thesis compares selected Czech translations of the drama The Government Inspector written by Gogol. The thesis summarizes Gogol's lifetime, his bibliography and the origin of his work. The thesis also analyzes the content of drama The Government Inspector including the characters. Furthermore, it is focused on theoretical knowledge of translatology. In the thesis are described particularities of Russian. The thesis also introduces two of Czech translators and the age of their work. J.-M. G. Le Clézio: Histoire du pied et autres faintaisies - commented translation, the analysis of the reception of Le Clézio's writing in the context of the French and Czech litterature

The aim of this thesis is to present an annotated literary translation of two short stories (L'arbre Yama a Barsa, ou barsaq) from the collection Histoire du pied et autres fantaisies by French author and Nobel Prize for literature winner J. M. G. Le Clézio. The first part of this thesis contains a translation of the two short stories. The second part, a commentary on the translation, includes information about the choice of the text, the author and his work, main stylistic and thematic features of the two translated texts, a list of main translation problems and strategies to solve them, the choice of the translation method and conception, the reception of Le Clézio's work in Czech literary context and an analysis of a survey among Czech publishers.

Czech Translations of Alexander Blok's Poem The Twelve

The detailed comparative analysis of four Czech translations of Alexander Blok's poem The twelve is at the crux of this diploma thesis. Concurrently, it sets the assessment of translation mastery of each translation based on criteria of poetry translation as defined by the signifiant Czech theorecian Jiří Levý. Aesthetic interpretaton of the poem and the description of distinctive features of Block's poetry precede the main part of the thesis. The author comes to a conclusion only two of the translations can be called acceptable to present-day readers (Vojtěch Jestřáb's and Václav Daněk's translations). Nevertheless, the translation by Bohumil Mathesius has a certain aesthetic quality, and if it is looked at from a historical perspective it can be appraised as succeful translation work. The very first translation by young Czech poet Jaroslav Seifert satisfies current poetry translation criteria the least. But there is also an another reason for it: both the Seifert's and Mathesius's translations are greatly influenced by the former language standard (the language obsolescence manifests itself at differet levels). Czech translations of historical novel by Leo Tolstoy: War and Peace

The thesis is focused on comparison of selected Czech translations of the novel by Russian writer Leo Tolstoy War and Peace. It is based on an extensive selected material to identify a degree and a quality of the overall approximation of the selected Czech translation to the original text of the novel, especially respecting the aesthetic values of the work, its lexical - semantic, syntactic and stylistic plane. The thesis assesses furthermore the adequacy of the translated texts relatively needs of their readers or pragmatic aspect. The conclusion summarizes the results of analysis, which lead to deepening our knowledge of these issues and their usage in the practice of translation. The Annex contents the interview with Mr. L. Dvorak who is the last translator of the novel.
