The language of Spanish insults
Hroudová, Šárka ; Čermák, Petr (advisor) ; Zavadil, Bohumil (referee)
v anglickém jazyce "The language of Spanish Insults" The objective of the present paper was to explore, as the title indicates, the rich variety of the Spanish insults. We centered mainly on the comparison of the Spanish insults to the Czech insults and observed the diferences and specific characteristics of Spanish insults. We began the first part with the definition of formal and informal language and its sociolects, because we believe that it helps to understand the properties of the insults, since they have many common characteristics with the sociolects. Afterwards, we tried to describe the historical and cultural backgrounds, because due to different evolutions in each country, the habits to use insults and curses are different, especially concerning the curses, which are still very common in Spain. In Czech Republic the curses fell into oblivion during the last century, while the people were becoming more atheistic. The role of taboo is also very important, because in each society, taboo is what's influencing the usage and the importance of every insult. Neverthless, the insults don't serve only for attacking somebody or to show disappointment, but they also have other functions, such as identifying with the members of the group or to address someone in a friendly way. In the practical part,...

Šedivá, Lucie ; Tirala, Martin (advisor) ; Weber, Michael (referee)
In thesis "Explicit depictions of contemporary Japanese literature" I deal with contemporary prose literature describing problems of nowadays Japanese society. In the first part I define taboo and chose suitable novels for the need of this work. I focus on different types of characters - freeters, foreigners, social outsiders and victims. Next I take Murakami Ry's literature as an example of explicit depictions and show different ways of processing and various topics chosen by the author. Then I compare and contrast his work with selected prose of younger writer Kanehara Hitomi, who represents the literature of female authors in contemporary Japan. In conclusion I discuss the aesthetic function of literature of explicit depictions and its position in the field of art. By comparing and contrasting the various novels I reach my own characteristic of contemporary Japanese literature of explicit depictions.

Vodičková, Marie ; Krobová, Tereza (advisor) ; Rosenfeldová, Jana (referee)
The bachelor thesis entitled "Deconstruction of the menstrual taboo in the "Nemusíš" advertising spot" deals with the method in which the taboo topic of menstruation is treated in advertising. The theoretical part of the thesis offers an explanation of fundamental terms such as menstruation, taboo and menstrual taboo. Attention is paid to menstruation from both a biological and a social point of view. The thesis gives an overview of how menstruation is dealt with in so-called menstrual art, popular culture and advertising. The paper examines the way in which sanitary pads and tampons are communicated within the menstrual taboo. The aim of the thesis is to analyze how the spot "Nemusíš" (translated as "you do not have to") by the brand Ria faces advertising clichés, which are widely represented in advertisements for women's pads and tampons in the form of image or language metaphors. Both the technical attributes of the spot and the narratives associated with menstruation, which cover topics such as menstruation shame, men and menstruation, language taboos, visualization of menstruation in the public, etc. This ad shows a world in which women are not always happy while menstruating, unlike the "advertising reality".

How women inside women's circles and women outside them experience menstruation
Fousková, Natálie ; Valentová, Hana (advisor) ; Presslerová, Pavla (referee)
The thesis explores women's experiencing of menstruation and it compares the experiencing in two groups, one consisting of women who have attended women's circles, and the other of women who have not. In addition to experiencing menstruation, the thesis explores the women's circles themselves as a new social phenomenon. Data collected through interviews with ten women was analysed using grounded theory methods. Menstruation is examined on the level of personal experiencing as well as on the level of a social norm. These levels are seen to show mutual influence. To some degree, women adopt the social perception of menstruation, yet at the same time, it is their experiences and actions that form it. Therefore, women have the potential to change the social norms regarding menstruation. Women outside women's circles accept the social norm and experience menstruation passively. They consider not feeling well a natural side-effect and do not attempt to change it. Women who have attended women's circles counter the social norm and experience menstruation actively. They work with their experiences, both physical and psychological, while menstruating, and they actively adjust their surrounding conditions in order to feel better. KEYWORDS: menstruation, experience, women's circles, womanhood, taboo, gender
