The experience of school psychologists with the phenomenon of self-harm

This thesis deals with the phenomenon of self-harm. The theoretical part is divided into several thematic areas. The first of them concerns self-harm and all its requisites from the definition, defining the concept of self-harm within the thesis, classification, methods, etiology, risk factors related to self-harm, the purpose of self-harm, defining coping strategies to the connection between self-harm and addiction and the origins of self-harm itself. It also defines the developmental period of adolescence and the occurrence of risk behaviors associated with this period. This is followed by a chapter on the school and school climate, defining the school counseling center and all staff within the school counseling center and the various relationships of the school psychologist with the internal relational network of the school. There is also a chapter on prevention, where the types of prevention are characterized, the minimum prevention program is mentioned, and prevention itself is discussed in relation to self-harm and the SOSI program. The last chapter in the theoretical work is intervention, where an overview of psychotherapeutic approaches, the scope of the school psychologist and intervention, alternative self-harm techniques and mental health support are mentioned. Comparison of usage of selected apperception techniques in children aged 6 to 7 years

The main topic of this dissertation is the usage of apperception techniques in diagnosing children aged 6 to 7 years, with an emphasis on the practice of School Psychology. The theoretical part focuses primarily on psychological diagnosis in School Psychology with the emphasis on apperception techniques, their benefits, and downfalls. The other focus is on the Thematic Apperception Test and Roberts-2, as well as selected assessment systems. The practical part is introduced by the research methodology. Both diagnostic methods were administered to 30 children aged 6 to 7 years, whose responses were assessed using standardized systems, and subsequently compared both quantitatively and qualitatively. The main finding is that the stories evoked by Roberts-2 cards exceeds the stories evoked by TAT cards in developmental quality, the latter of which the children find too overloading to produce an optimal reaction, with varied results in their adaptability. The dissertation also presents the specifics of administering these methods to children. Based on the data derived from 50 children, the Czech norms for Roberts-2 method for children aged 6 to 7 were created in their working stage, and than compared with the original American norms.
Selected aspects of the role of school psychologist in kindergartens

The role of the school psychologist in Kindergarten Bc. Kateřina Denysjuková 2022 ABSTRACT This paper will focus on the role of the school psychologist in the Czech state kindergarten environment. The thesis is a pioneer in this field, as it is a new and under-reported topic in the literature. The theoretical part will focus mainly on the summary of the job description and the role of the school psychologist as such, on the legislative positions enabling this new trend, on the possibilities and image of psychological counselling for preschool children and its comparison with the abilities of the school psychologist. It will also focus on the presumed reasons for the intervention of the school psychologist in kindergartens in terms of common difficulties of preschool children. The empirical part will summarize the image of the work of the school psychologist in the preschool. This part will be based on a qualitative analysis of interviews with school psychologists working for the Kindergarten. School psychologists' experience with online counseling

This thesis explores the experiences of school psychologists with online counselling. The theoretical part has three chapters which discuss school psychology as a field of study, provide an insight into the current state of online counselling and a description of online counselling from the perspective of school psychologists based on an analysis of scientific articles. The aim of the thesis is to describe school psychologists' experiences with online counselling during COVID-19 lockdown. The qualitative design was chosen for the research purposes. The method of data collection consisted of conducting semi-structured interviews. The research sample included four female school psychologists and one male school psychologist. Data analysis was conducted based on interpretative phenomenological text analysis. In the research findings, the school psychologists' cumulative experience with online counselling consisted of an overall reduction in counselling services, which was primarily due to addressing ethical issues such as privacy and the construction of professional and work boundaries, as well as technical barriers and a change in the form of work in the online environment. Constructing the school counselling department at Royal Elementary School in Prague - a case study

The case study describes the process of building a school counselling centre at a particular private school in Prague. The theoretical part provides a professional framework and describes what is the purpose of a school counselling centre, how it is defined in the legislation of Czech republic, who are its members and what is the job description of each of them. However, each school has its own specific needs of the management, teachers and pupils, and the counselling centre should respond to them. The practical section details the steps in the process of setting up a counselling centre and presents a way of thinking and specific questions that the founder may ask. The output of the work is also a proposal for the concept of a school counselling centre as it will operate in this particular school. The work is an inspiration to other schools that are just starting their counselling centres.
Psychological aspects of cyberbullying

Diploma thesis "Psychological aspects of cyberbullying" deals with bullying, modern ways of communication and cyberbullying. It brings the main psychological knowledge connected to bullying, inquires into phenomena of communication using modern technologies and presents fundamental information about cyberbullying. The research part consists of qualitative and quantitative research. The purpose of qualitative research was to chart the phenomena connected to bullying and cyberbullying. The quantitative one informs then about the incidence of bullying and cyberbullying in the Czech Republic and conducts a survey of feelings, which are experienced by the victims of bullying and cyberbullying. The important part of the thesis is the statistical reliance analysis of those feelings according to various factors.

The cooperation between school psychologists and teams of teachers from the school psychologists's perspective

My thesis deals with cooperation between school psychologists and teachers. The paper focuses on activities for teachers that are created by school psychologists. The purpose of this study is to look at approach of the school psychologists towards implementation of the activities and to describe attitudes and practices of the school psychologists. Theoretical part consists of the following - history of the school psychology, definition of the school psychology, related legal provisions in the Czech Republic, job description and difficulties that are described by various studies. The paper also deals with teaching, the profession that is often related with stress and burnout syndrome. At the end of the theoretical part several activities for teachers are discussed along with tricky relationship between teachers and school psychologists. Empirical part of the thesis includes results of research consisting of 13 interviews with school psychologists. The interviews are analysed by thematic analysis. The results show that school psychologists create mainly group sessions focused on sharing experiences and thoughts. They also create educational workshops or even relaxation training. Dynamic assessment in practice of school psychologist

This bachelor thesis introduce dynamic assessment as an approach, which could be part of the practice of a school psychologist, and tries to figure out, whether, and to what extent is this method applied to school psychologists' everyday job. The data was collected and analyzed through the method of qualitative research from semi-structured interviews with seven school psychologists. The results of the research imply that school psychologists do utilize principals of dynamic assessment to a certain extent, but in majority they don't use it systematically. This resume is in agreement with the research, which was carried out under the project RAMPS-VIP III. In the resume, the author comes with the hypothesis that it might be useful if school psychologists learnt more about this method already during their studies - particularly those of them who potentially aspire for a career in schooling or counseling.
