Reading comprehension among pupils at third grafe of elementary schools

The present thesis deals with the issue of reading comprehension of pupils in the 3rd grade of elementary school taught by the Sfumato reading method. The thesis is divided into a theoretical and a practical part. The theoretical part introduces the concepts of reading, some sub-skills for the development of reading comprehension. We also describe some reading methods used in Czech education, focusing more on the Sfumato reading method. The last chapter is devoted to a reflection on the influence of distance learning on the acquisition of reading by beginning readers. The practical section presents research whose primary aim was to describe the typical developmental level of reading 3rd grade students taught using the Sfumato reading method. The secondary aim was to compare the average performance of pupils of this method with the analytic-synthetic and genetic methods. The research sample consisted of 45 pupils of the 3rd grade of the Sfumato method from a total of 3 primary schools in the Czech Republic. The pupils were administered the PorTex diagnostic battery. Possibilities of acquiring of reading with comprehension in children with specific language impairment

The topic of the thesis is the development of the reading comprehension in children with specific language impairment and its possibilities. For the purposes of this thesis, worksheets were created through which the development of the area could be implemented. The diploma thesis is divided into four chapters. Three chapters represent the theoretical part, the fourth chapter is empirical. In the first theoretical chapter, knowledge about specific language impairment (causes, symptomatology, diagnosis and therapy) is written. Similarly, specific learning disabilities are described in the second chapter. The third theoretical chapter approaches the issue of reading comprehension development. It is focused on the development of pre-reading literacy, the possibility of teaching initial reading and writing, and the development of functional literacy. The fourth empirical part of the thesis presents a qualitative research investigation, which was carried out using case studies and semi-structured interviews with teachers. At the end of the practical part, the results of the research investigation are summarized and recommendations for working with the created worksheets are presented.

Silent reading comprehension among pupils at the fifth grade of basic schools

My thesis is about mapping of silent reading mode with understanding among students at five grade of basic school. The thesis is divided into two parts - the theoretical part and empiric part. In the theoretical part the thesis is focused on the theory of silent reading, comprehension of what we read and you can find the description of context of listening versus the silent reading there. The attention is focused on approaches to reading, the diagnostic of reading and the preconditions which are projected into reading. The empiric part is based on two levels of settled aims - the primary aim and the secondary aim. The adaptation of the test of the silent reading, We are going on a trip, is the primary aim. In terms of this aim we will investigate discriminatory and reflective value of the test at the fifth classes. The thesis is engaging in itemized analysis of individual questions of test. You can read there about dynamics of the development from the side of student's progress at the start and end of the school year. In terms of secondary aim the results were processed by quantitative methodology and it is discussed from the view of the pattern of reading (usual writing and Comenia Script) and from the view of gender. The diploma thesis "Own literary work with a commentary" consists of, apart from the own literary work, a reflexion on this work, reviews (a review of a nursery school teacher, a secondary school teacher, a review of a regular reader, a review of an author of books for children), response to the reviews, partial conclusions with a feedback and the conclusion. The diploma thesis emphasizes the importance of own author's experience, mainly for the teachers who work with literature in the groups of children. It demonstrates the benefits of literary creative teacher's work for the children's reading experience. In the context, the thesis deals with the development of reading in nursery school, elementary school and family. The diploma thesis describes the features of original author's poetics. Simultaneously, based on the reviews, the author's work is included into the genre of fairy tales.
