Implementation of the ecosystem services framework into policy and decision-making
Daněk, Jan ; Vačkářová, Davina Elena (advisor) ; Mederly, Peter (referee) ; Schneider, Jiří (referee)
The ecosystem services (ES) framework enables a better understanding of the benefits of nature to people and society. Thus it can help to inform decision-making and promote a more sustainable use of nature and landscape. Although the number of scientific publications on ES is steadily increasing, the actual application of ES knowledge in policy, decision-making and practice by actors is still very limited. The dissertation examines through several sub-studies whether and how the ES framework is already implemented in policies and in the real decision-making practice of various actors in the Czech Republic, and what the possibilities are of using this framework. The methods used include policy content analysis, semi-structured interviews, participatory workshops, focus groups, questionnaire survey with participatory mapping and a systematic literature review. The individual studies are then embedded in a conceptual framework of impact assessment for policy and decision-making. The results show that although the ES framework is relatively abundant in key national environmental policies, its application in decision-making is minimal. The identified gap between the existing level of implementation in policies and the very limited use in decision-making and practice can be explained by a number of...

Overtouristed! Overtourism in large-size specially protected areas of the Czech republic
Müllerová, Eva ; Rynda, Ivan (advisor) ; Lehečka, Michal (referee)
The Master thesis' central theme is the phenomenon of Overtourism. It compares its status in three large-size specially protected areas: The Krkonoše Mountains National Park, Bohemian Paradise Protected Landscape Area and Třeboň Basin Protected Landscape Area. Based on interviews with representatives of the protected areas administrations and with tourists, the thesis aims to describe and analyze central conflicts of a nature- based active lifestyle and nature protection, as well as to identify the impacts of increasing tourism on the fragile ecosystems of the protected areas. Increased attention is given to the differences between pre-pandemic and pandemic situation. The empirical research combines several methods: semi-structured interviews with both sides of the conflict, participant observation in the field and the analysis of materials such as relevant legislation and regulations of tourism. This thesis hopes to contribute to the state of knowledge by its thorough description of the issue in the three analyzed areas; and by creating a typology of tourists coming to the protected areas which could be applied in future tourism management. Based on its conclusions, the thesis also drafts measures for future tourism management of given areas designed to mitigate the conflict situation.
Spider diversity research in relation to habitat conservation management.
Krajíčková, Kateřina ; Opatová, Věra (advisor) ; Dolejš, Petr (referee)
Spiders are a cosmopolitan and highly diversified group of invertebrates that play a very important role in the ecosystem. Thanks to their ubiquity in anthropogenic and economic ecosystems, we can consider them a suitable group that can be used for biological protection needs. Spider venoms and their silks also have potential uses in biotechnology in the future. Today, however, spiders face many threatening factors, including climate change, habitat loss, pesticides, acid rain, and other introduced invertebrate species. Spider conservation is currently addressed in several ways, using regional instruments such as the Bern Convention, the Habitat Directive and the IUCN Red List of Endangered Species. However, in the EU in particular, there is a lack of efforts to protect them not only in terms of evaluation but also in terms of regional and national legislation. However, the fact that they may be located in protected areas, such as national parks or protected landscape areas, also helps to protect them, which greatly helps to maintain their diversity. The biggest obstacle to spider protection is the lack of public support, which can be linked to ignorance and concern. These concerns could theoretically be addressed by pointing out that very few spider species pose a threat to humans and by educating...

My thesis deals with evaluation of visits in central parts of Giant Mountains National Park in the summer month through three years of periodic monitoring and unique evaluation survey of visitors of natural protected area of Beskydy. It compares results of this protected areas each other and with other chosen national parks in North America, Australia and Europe. It has been recorded the quantitative load of selected localities in Giant Mountain National Park (Luční bouda, Labská bouda and U čtyř pánů) and natural protected area Beskydy (Pustevny). It were conducted guided interview with visitors at this locations. With this method used was obteined high ratio response (about 92 %). It was recorded a total of 44 281 visitors. Sustainable tourism and resident management in the central part of KRNAP
Brožková, Hana ; Čihař, Martin (advisor) ; Jelínková, Jindřiška (referee)
Keywords: Sustainable tourism, Protected areas, Management, Monitoring, Krkonose National Park, Residents, Spindleruv Mlyn Tourism offers various services to all participants. The constantly growing desire for discovering new landscapes, cultures, education and economic profit exerts pressure on the environmental and social surroundings that are stronger in the protected areas (PA). State and private spheres make an effort to regulate the flow of visitors through sustainable management, to which the promotion and coordination of all stakeholders of tourism is the main aim. Visitor monitoring is an essential management tool in PA and can lead to conflict resolution and reduction of the impact on nature and society. Charles University in Prague was the first institution in the Czech Republic to show concern through methodical regular visitor surveys in the PA. This work pursues and focused on the opinions of people in Krkonose tourist resort Spindleruv Mlyn (SM) in 1999, 2004 and 2009. In 2009, respondents in SM noticed the build- up of development as the most frequent ecological problem, which causes changes in social and economic life of the village as well as changes in the character of the landscape. Despite these perceptions, positive attitudes of the monitored respondents group prevailed for...
Analysis of Littering in the protected areas of the Czech Republic
Hejdová, Jiřina ; Benešová, Libuše (advisor) ; Kotoulová, Zdenka (referee)
The problems of litter are now getting to the forefront of attention in the realm of waste research. The phenomenon of littering is monitored especially in towns, but not so much outside the urbanized areas. Waste represents, for both esthetic and conservationist reasons, an undesirable phenomenon. This holds true for the protected areas in particular. This Master's Thesis is concerned with the analysis of litter, which should be the first step in the prevention and solution of the problems of littering. Three protected landscape areas and two national parks were chosen for this survey. Two tourist trails were selected in each protected area - the main and the minor one. The collection of litter was carried out in spring, summer and autumn. Collected waste was categorized at first and then a number of pieces, weight and volume were set for each category concerned. The largest amount of litter was collected in the National park Krkonoše and the smallest in the Protected landscape area Kokořínsko. The largest number of litter pieces is represented by cigarette waste, followed by plastic and hygienic waste. PET bottles were the most common type of litter pieces found in the category of beverage containers. Three quarters of all litter was found on the main trails. The most litter was collected in the...
