Dear Dream Diary
Fiedlerová, Marie ; Filipová, Markéta (referee) ; Štindlová, Marie (advisor)
Visual representation of my dream diary, images on the edge of reality and dreams. I see moments and events that I am sometimes not sure if they have already happened, they are yet to come or they are just a dream. I lay in my bed and I see visions in between reality and something absurd, images dance around me in the dark of the night and take a form in the morning light of my room on the canvas of white walls.
Influence of binaural beats on ideomotoric coordination
Pavlovič, Ondřej ; Pánek, David (advisor) ; Pavlů, Dagmar (referee)
Name: The effects of binaural beats on sleep quality: a systematic review Aims of the study: The main objective of this study is to present the possibilities of influencing stress and sleep, to determine the effect of binaural beats (BB) stimulation on sleep quality and parameters, and to determine the specifics of effective BB therapy based on the available data. Materials and methods: This systematic review includes scientific articles and clinical studies published in relevant and/or peer-reviewed journals and conference proceedings. Three electronic databases (Web of Science, Scopus, PubMed) were searched for all available sources published from 2000 to January 2023 in English language. The search was conducted using relevant keywords and their combinations. The screening and subsequent process of elimination was based on set of eligibility and inclusion criteria. Results: Total of fourteen studies met the eligibility criteria. BB stimulation increased subjectively perceived sleep quality and reduced mental tension. Objectively, it reduces time of falling asleep, accelerates the onset of deeper sleep stages (N2 and N3) and increases their duration, as well as the total sleep time. The parameters optimal for effective BB stimulation can be laid out as follows: BB in the frequency range of 2 to 4...
Sleep and the consequences of its lack on university students
Soukupová, Barbora ; Thorovská, Alena (advisor) ; Zvírotský, Michal (referee)
This bachelor's thesis is called Sleep and the consequences of its lack on university students. The work is divided into two parts. In the theoretical part are mentioned general characteristics of sleep, history, circadian rhythms, phases and meaning of sleep. Furthermore, attention is also paid to selected sleep disorders, possible causes, and finally the consequences that can occur during sleep deprivation. The practical part is carried out with the help of semi-structured interviews with respondents, followed by an analysis of the interviews, a comparison of individual data and a discussion in which the answers to the research questions are summarized and the results compared with the professional literature. The main goal was to find out the consequences of lack of sleep on university students, when it was found that the most common problems are with attention, memory and mood changes, as well as greater susceptibility to diseases. A partial goal investigated the possible causes that contribute to impaired sleep on university students. The research showed that the most common causes were stress and caffeine. Another partial goal was to find out how the quality of sleep subjectively changes in university students during the exam period. The results pointed to a reduction in sleep time, worsening...
Sleep hygiene of students of Charles University FPES
Beranová, Tereza ; Majorová, Simona (advisor) ; Nováková, Pavlína (referee)
Title: Sleep Hygiene of Students of Charles University FPES Objectives: The aim of the bachelor's thesis was to find out to what extent students of bachelor's programs at Charles University FPES (Faculty of Physical Education and Sport) adhere to the principles of sleep hygiene. Methods: I used the poll method for data collection for the practical part of the bachelor's thesis. The poll of my own design was created via Google Forms. The data were converted to the Microsoft Excel 2010. The basic procedures of descriptive statistics were applied to process the data. The research was focused on a group of students of full-time bachelor's programs at Charles University FPES. Results: The poll results showed that most students only partially follow sleep hygiene. Only 12 (10.3 %) students out of 116 (100 %) participators adhere to almost all recommended sleep hygiene principles. For the rest of the students, it was recommended to eliminate negative factors affecting sleep. Keywords: sleep, insomnia, sleep disorders, regeneration, addictive substances, circadian rhythm, EEG

Acoustic stimulation of Slow wave sleep and its influence on consolidation of declarative memory in insomnia
Orendáčová, Mária ; Kopřivová, Jana (advisor) ; Kelemen, Eduard (referee)
Slow-wave sleep plays an important role in consolidation of declarative memory. From electrophysiological point of view, this process is dependent on a common occurrence and mutual integration of neocortical slow oscillations (< 1 Hz), hippocampal sharp-wave ripples (150-250 Hz) and thalamo-cortical sleep spindles (10-15 Hz). Previous studies demonstrated that periodic acoustic stimulation by pink noise pulses applied at frequency of sleep slow oscillation during slow wave sleep leads to prolongation of slow wave sleep and to enhancement in declarative memory performance in normal sleepers. Our study investigated this kind of periodic acoustic stimulation in its relation to sleep architecture and declarative memory of people suffering from insomnia due to which there often comes to a reduction in slow wave sleep which positively correlates with worsening of declarative memory performance. Our aim was to investigate if this kind of comparatively non-invasive brain stimulation has a potential to increase a total length of slow wave sleep and enhance declarative memory performance in insomnia. Our study revealed acoustic stimulation neither improved declarative memory performance nor it increased total length of slow-wave sleep. No positive association was found between level of declarative memory...

Charles University in Prague Faculty of Pharmacy in Hradec Králové Department of Biological and Medical Sciences Author of bachelor thesis: Kristýna Bezdíčková Supervisor of bachelor thesis: PharmDr. Iveta Nejmanova, Ph.D. Title of bachelor thesis: Mental health problems during pregnancy and in the postpartum period Background: The aim of this work is to unify the knowledge about the difficulty of pregnancy and the puerperium. I would like to point out how pregnancy can affect the woman's psyche. In my work I will deal with individual mental problems, their etiology, diagnosis, treatment and prevention. Main findings: This work deals with the issue of pregnancy and puerperium. In the introductory part I focus on the woman's psyche in the early stage of pregnancy, her possible fears that may lead to mental health problems later. I would also like to draw attention to the effect of steroid hormones in this period. This is followed by a general section of etiology, treatment and prevention. In the second half of the work are discussed more or less serious changes in the psyche. Conclusions: Mental disorders can have a serious impact on a mother's life and child's development. Their early diagnosis and possible treatment are important. Key words: puerperium, baby blues, anxiety, insomnia, depression,...
The Ontology of the Void
