Sudková, Tereza ; Hanušová, Jaroslava (advisor) ; Blažková, Veronika (referee)
The thesis deals with the issue of the impact of employment on the studies of full-time students at the Faculty of Education, Charles University. The theoretical part of the introduction describes the development of tertiary education and the field of pedagogical disciplines, the issues related to balancing study and work life, the reasons why not only full-time students opt for employment, and finally, how this affects their studies and related activities. The practical part of the thesis presents the results of a quantitative research study, which was conducted through an anonymous online questionnaire involving 160 respondents who met the given conditions (full-time study, 2nd or higher year at the Faculty of Education, Charles University). The main research objective was to determine the impact of employment intensity and compatibility on the studies of full-time university students at the Faculty of Education, Charles University. The results showed that 148 respondents were employed during their studies, of which 96 worked in a compatible job. These respondents who worked during their studies were not significantly affected by the intensity of their employment on the number of hours spent studying and self-studying, unlike respondents who had incompatible employment. For the latter group,...

References NDIAYE, Sokhna, A. R. Barriers And Opportunities Of Strategic Governance In Higher Education In West Africa: The Case Of Senegal. Praha, 2022. 212 pages. Dissertation thesis (PhD.). Charles University, Faculty of Social Sciences, Institute of Sociological Studies. Department of Public and Social Policy. Supervisor Prof. PhDr. Martin Potůček, CSc., M.Sc. Abstract This dissertation project presents an analysis of the higher education system in Senegal. Indeed, the past three decades of higher education have been marked by a growing instability of the system manifested mainly in access and quality issues. Despite the different programs and policies elaborated and implemented, these problems only persist. As such, I attempt to answer the main questions: What are the most essential factors for the unsuccessful implementation of significant Higher Education policies in Senegal? In which ways could strategic governance be improved to remedy the current pitfalls of the system? By extension, I propose as a potential solution the rethinking of the governance approach to higher education by studying the barriers and opportunities of strategic governance in higher education in Senegal. This study is based on both qualitative and quantitative data analysis aiming to understand the considered problems through...
The Price Elasticity of the Demand for Higher Education: A Meta-Analysis
Kiiashko, Olesia ; Havránek, Tomáš (advisor) ; Korbel, Václav (referee)
The main question of this study is whether the demand for higher education is relatively sensitive to tuition fee changes or is price inelastic. There is no definite answer in the literature. Approximately 52% of the estimates show it to be insignificant, 43% rate it as statistically negative, and approximately 5% are statistically positive. In a quantitative survey of 562 estimates reported in 48 studies, it has been found that large increases in tuition fees have a disproportionately negative impact on enrollment when potential publication bias and method heterogeneity are taken into account. The publication bias tests show that negative results are more preferable among researchers, because it is well supported by theory (when prices increase demand decreases). The results also suggest that four aspects of study design are especially effective in explaining the differences across primary studies: (1) the longer time period negatively associated with the price c of demand for higher education, (2) while the cross sectional estimations have reported more negative results, panel data estimations have reported fewer negative results, (3) controlling for endogeneity is crucial, (4) while controlling for unemployment rate has no clear conclusive impact, controlling for income is not significantly...

Bolinová, Petra ; Kotrusová, Miriam (advisor) ; Hejzlarová, Eva (referee)
Diploma thesis "The conditions of university - educated mothers of little children re- entering the labour market in the Czech republic" deals with reasons of long term interruption of qualified womens' career. The most frequently, they stay at home taking care of children three years, inspite of the fact, that they are motivated by their human capital and their need of self fulfillment to get back to their job as soon as possible. The thesis is based on the assumption that there is a substantial tension between work and family life of university - educated women. The thesis identifies which factors influence the period these women stay away the labour market. Besides a human capital, there is a frame of the family and institutional policy, a kind of household division of labour and culture context. The thesis focuses on tertiary - educated mothers' preference on their professional and household engagement. It also focuses on structural conditions in the labour market, institutional policy and the role of employer in reconciliation of work and family life. The thesis brings a contribution for its focus on university - educated women with their specific characteristics, and for its focus on employers' family - friendly activities.
Analyze the Bologna Process and European Higher Education Integration from the perspective of Government Network Structure Theory
Fan, Jingyi ; Young, Mitchell (advisor) ; Amini, Chiara (referee) ; Weiss, Tomáš (referee)
In 1999, France, Germany, the United Kingdom and Italy jointly signed the Bologna Declaration and proposed to establish an open European Higher Education Area (EHEA). The Bologna Process promoted the integration of higher education in Europe, and counteracted the integration of European politics and economy. Currently, 48 countries have joined the Bologna process. The influence of the Bologna process has also developed from Europe to other countries in Asia, Africa, and North America. The Bologna Process has established six goals at the beginning: credit system, degree system, student mobility, lifelong learning, quality assurance and European research area. From 1999 to 2000, the Bologna Process has accomplished these goals and put forward a plan for the new decade. The dissertation takes 2010 as the node and divides the Bologna Process into policy objectives and policy subjects through the policy network analysis framework, and analyze the correlation between policy subjects through the neo-functionalism. The result shows that the Bologna process will further deepen its goals in the next decade and attract more countries to join in the context of globalization. However, due to differences in economic and political backgrounds, there will be an differentiate integration based on their own...
