Kubová, Karolína ; Šubrt, Jiří (advisor) ; Šafr, Jiří (referee)
This thesis is a theoretical-historical attribute and focuses on the theory of classes and class conflict, on the genesis of the concept of class. The thesis will analyze the authors and directions-schools that have had an impact on the ideological founder of the concept Karl Marx and also how they developed their thinking. Marx nor any other author of the term "class, classes, class" never clearly defined. It is a historical and sociological perspective on the concept of "class", which is often defined differently, and still there is any clear definition, which would approve whole academic community. In modern societies, the term "class" is not used so often and has been replaced by the concept of social stratification. In recent years, the "classes" being discussed by worldwide experts, but the solution is still not found. Nevertheless, this work is optimistic and the author clearly advocates that the term "class" will not vanish from professional sociological discourse.

Family change and its impact on the health of children in the Czech Republic
Štípková, Martina ; Kreidl, Martin (advisor) ; Sobotka, Tomáš (referee) ; Zeman, Kryštof (referee)
The thesis focuses on the patterns of nonmarital childbearing and its influence on the health of newborns in the Czech Republic between 1990 and 2010. Numerous and profound social changes took part in these two decades after the fall of state socialism. Socioeconomic inequalities grew, a competitive job market was introduced and social policy was reformed. Family behaviour changed, as well. A more than four-fold rise of the proportion of children born outside marriage was among the most remarkable changes in this regard. Two research questions were addressed: 1. how did unmarried motherhood and its socioeconomic background change; 2. how did these changes influence disparities in the health of newborns by family arrangement. Data from the birth register are used for answering these questions and analysed with multilevel regression models. The method was aimed at explaining variability between contexts defined by time and space. Health of newborns is measured by birth weight. Family arrangement of mothers is measured with their marital status. Unmarried mothers are further split by the presence of a partner measured with the mother's willingness to declare child's father. The results show that birth outcomes on nonmarital children improved and marital status gap in birth weight closed substantially in the...
The origins of catholic political thought in life work of V. S. Štulc
Záškoda, Miloslav ; Doubek, Vratislav (advisor) ; Klementová, Eliška (referee)
The subject of this paper is the public role of the Catholic priest in the Czech national society of the 19th century, when the Catholic Church lost its ideological and influential position and when it had to face the process of secularization. The situation of the Catholic Church had changed radically as it became only one of many different cultural or political entities in that century and had to find new means of how to influence opinions of the people. This essay discusses the life and work of Václav Štulc (1814 - 1887), a Czech Catholic priest and an enthusiastic patriot. It describes three fundamental tendencies in his political thought. The first tendency in his work is associated with his role of representative of the Catholic Church and with his emphasizing the importance of religious values for the common good of society. Štulc's conservatism is based on very sharp criticism of the Enlightenment, revolutionary violence and the enlightened rule of Emperor Joseph II. Štulc urges all social classes to respect the basic laws and to maintain public order. Secondly, Štulc often refers to the relationship of the religious and national identities. Štulc is trying to unite the Catholic faith with the modern concept of the nation, challenging many prejudices about the Catholic Church and...
