USB-microscope and its possibilities for chemistry and geology education
Kopecký, Ondřej ; Šmejkal, Petr (advisor) ; Teplý, Pavel (referee)
Microscopes are a common tool in science education, used to demonstrate phenomena that are not visible to the naked eye. They are most commonly encountered in the teaching of biology, but could also be used in the teaching of other science subjects, such as geology or chemistry. In addition to microscopes, binoculars can also be used in teaching. One such alternative for binoculars is the USB-microscope, which has been expanding in recent years beyond its primary use in electrical engineering. It appears that the USB-microscope could be a suitable teaching tool. However, its wider use is inhibited by inexperience of teachers and students, as well as by the lack of teaching and materials that could effectively utilise the USB-microscope. Consequently, the objective of this study was to select and optimise experiments that are suitable for education and, at the same time, can utilise the USB-microscope to advantage in their presentation. Additionally, the objective was to create worksheets and supplementary materials for educators to facilitate the selected experiments. To achieve this, ten experiments were selected and optimized for both teaching and laboratory work with the USB-microscope. The appropriate supplementary materials, including worksheets, were then developed for these experiments. The...

Development of Czech teaching materials for the Vernier experimental system
Vogalová, Naděžda ; Böhm, Pavel (advisor) ; Žilavý, Peter (referee)
The aim of this thesis is to summarize already published tutorials for experiments with the Vernier lab system and to write new tutorials respecting requirements and specifics of the Czech educational system. Six new detailed tutorials were prepared. All of them were, or would be, published on the Internet web site of The Framework Education Programmes (www.rvp.cz). Following tutorials were written: Bulb flickering, Warm-up of a compact fluorescent lamp, Relation between illumination and distance of the light source, Relation between illumination and number of filters, Why is salt used in the winter on the roads, Photochromic glasses. Each experiment is accompanied by a classification with respect to The Framework Education Programmes and by requirements for The State High School Leaving Exam (``maturita'').
Laboratory works in physics for upper secondary schools
Koutská, Barbora ; Žák, Vojtěch (advisor) ; Kekule, Martina (referee)
This Bachelor thesis is dealing with laboratory classes at secondary schools. Thesis offers ideas for five laboratory classes which were carried out during regular teaching at the secondary school. Besides other things there are work sheets here to be used with given classes and for the teachers there are metodical instructions which have arisen from implementation in classes and from subsequent reflection. Laboratory classes are thematically focused on the field of vibration and interference which run through different fields of physics. The aim of these classes is mainly to develop students' creativity in solving problems, their practical skills during preparation of experiments, also to develop critical attitude to the information and the discussion about mistakes and negligencies which emerged during measuring and working on the computer. As it turned out in research dedicated to motivation in learning physics, laboratory classes prepared in this way - i.e. experiments carried out by students themselves and using computers in processing data - are loved by students and because of that they have a great motivational capacity.

Charles University in Prague, Faculty of Science, Department of Teaching and Didactics of Chemistry, Hlavova 8, Prague 2 Author: Bc. Eva Hrobařová Name: The teaching materials for chemical education - experimental and practical chemistry with different kind of food ABSTRACT: In this thesis I elaborated the theme "The teaching material for active chemical education - experimental and practical chemistry with different kind of food". I created a questionnaire with name "Availability of laboratories and schoolrooms of chemistry in college". The results of this questionnaire were a base for choice of the experiments with different kind of food. Each experiment is completed by photos and a few questions for students. In this work I also analysed several thesis about practical and experimental chemistry. In this thesis I lay stress on importance of experimental and practice chemistry in colleges in Czech Republic. My task was to create easy teaching materials for active education and the utilization of easy experiments to illustrate theory. The experiments are very easy, it's not necessary many tools and it's not even necessary to use chemical laboratory. .
