Content analysis of chain e-mails related to presidential candidates

This thesis aims to provide analysis of chain emails during the second direct presidential election in the Czech Republic. The main goal of this work is to set out a semiotic analysis in order to provide detailed research of emails related to both candidates Miloš Zeman and Jiří Drahoš. The chain emails usually using a specific linguistic terms and persuasive procedures. Therefore, the attention will be paid mainly to linguistic and persuasive procedures which are identified. In order to examine the phenomenon the theoretical framework will be based on several key words and terms such as: chain emails, disinformation, hoax, semiotics, etc. Aforementioned, this work is aiming to provide a detailed overview of chain mails. In order to address the topic, I will approach the political background within the media context to present solid foundational analysis, which will conduct disinformation topics.
Direct presidential election in the Czech media environment

The presented diploma thesis on the topic Direct election of the President in the Czech media environment aims to clarify how the selected internet news portals (iDnes.cz, iRozhlas.cz, Novinky.cz, Blesk.cz) reported on the second rounds of the direct election of the head of state in years 2013 and 2018. The theoretical part of this work focuses on the definition of theoretical concepts, such as media image, media product or representation. It also deals with the factors of the enactment of the direct election of the president and the resulting impact on society. In the analytical part, articles from selected servers in a specific period will be examined with the help of quantitative content analysis, which should, among other things, clarify how the media decided to approach this new institution.
TV debates as an tool of pre-election communication of candidates in the Presidential election 2018

This thesis deals with the presidential debates in the second round of the presidential election in 2018, when Miloš Zeman and Jiří Drahoš met in duels. In the theoretical part of the thesis, I will explain the concepts related to the political communication and introduce the development of political campaigns. Then, I will focus on the development and history of political debates in the world as well as in Czechia. I will also focus on Czech television market and the differences between public and commercial broadcasters. In the practical part, I will perform a quantitative content analysis, which aims to determine whether the candidates used the topics, that the Public Opinion Reseach Center (CVVM) evaluated as the most important for the public. Next, I will perform a pragmalinguistic analysis, which will help to find out whether any of the debates favored any of the candidates. I will also compare the formats of the debates as well as the topics discussed to find out the differences between debate on public and commercial broadcaster. Fake news during the presidental elections in the Czech Republic 2018 and in Slovakia 2019

Comparative case study consists of 12 chapters and is composed as qualitative research. The main goal of the study is to research the fake news used in chosen set of data, consisting of 13 television debates. The case study works with two cases - the presidential election in the Czech Republic (2018) and in Slovakia (2019). First part of the analysis deals with methodology and theoretical background for fake news and role of television debates in election campaign. Next part is dedicated to the analyzed cases of elections, briefly covering the development of the election campaign followed by analysis. The results of the analysis are summed up in the independent chapter. As the most used fake news themes in given debates the analysis identifies following: migration, negative attitude towards media, questionable funding of the campaign and attempts to influence the elections. The main difference in the cases is the nature of the competition, when the acting president is running for re-election. Author: Marek Martinovský Thesis name: Candidate endorsement in media under Economia, Ltd. before the Czech presidential election 2013 and 2018 Abstract The subject matter of this thesis is to analyse the phenomenon of media endorsement during the Czech presidential elections of 2013 and 2018 in the Czech media landscape. The sample consists of media outputs of two select media under the Economia publishing house, namely Hospodářské noviny and the Aktuálně.cz news website, 14 days prior to the second round of both elections. The paper discusses various theoretical aspects of newspaper endorsement in - mostly US - media and briefly presents examples in the Czech ones as well. The core of the thesis is a quantitative content analysis via which we can attain the volume of explicit and implicit candidate support in select media, as well as find any correlation with the concrete examples of endorsement in both outlets. The secondary goal of the thesis is to provide data about the previously unmapped terrain of endorsement during the 2018 Czech presidential election

The topic of the bachelor thesis Theory of hoax and its examples in the Czech presidential election 2018 is the theoretical definition of the term hoax and its practical analysis in connection with the election of the president of the Czech Republic in 2018. The theoretical part first deals with the very concept of hoax - its definition and origin. The chapter History of the hoax is divided into two subchapters. The first one is related to the world history of hoax - it describes six hoaxes from different historical periods in detail. The second subchapter deals with one of the oldest misinformation that appeared in connection with Czech history. In the chapter Phenomena related to hoaxes, the work deals with concepts that are closely related to hoaxes - Propaganda and Conspiracy Theories. Social networks as primary information source during presidential elections - comparison between USA and Czech republic

Bakalářská práce se věnuje předvolební komunikaci prezidentských kandidátů na sociálních sítích. A to s ohledem na fakt, že pro zástupce generací Y a Z se internet a potažmo sociální sítě postupně stávají primárním zdrojem informací. Záměrem je porovnat, jakým způsobem používali sociální sít Facebook prezidentští kandidáti ze dvou zemí - Spojených států amerických a České republiky. V případě USA se jedná o volby z roku 2016 a kandidáty Donalda Trumpa a Hillary Clintonovou. V České republice se práce zaměřuje na volby z roku 2018 a kandidáty Miloše Zemana a Jiřího Drahoše. Problematiku nejprve uvede teoretická část, jež popisuje proměny spojené se vznikem Webu 2.0 a nástupem síťových digitálních médií. Zmíněny jsou problematické aspekty internetového prostředí. Přibližuje také sociální sítě a Facebook jakožto informační zdroj a věnuje se roli sociálních sítí v politickém marketingu. Samotná praktická část se pak soustředí na analýzu dat získaných z celkem 578 příspěvků, které výše uvedení kandidáti zveřejnili v průběhu tří týdnů před finální prezidentskou volbou. Zkoumána je četnost, typ, rozsah, tématika a zabarvení příspěvků každého kandidáta a také trendy, jež v průběhu stanového časového období vykazují. Následně jsou poznatky z obou zemí porovnávány. Role of Media in Political Marketing: A Case study of the Czech Presidential Election 2018

The main aim of this thesis is to analyze the political marketing tools used by presidential candidates Jiří Drahoš and Miloš Zeman during the second round of presidential elections broadcasted on TV channel ČT 1. It also deals with the media image created by the mentioned candidates through these tools and through this televison channel. The aim of presented research is therefore to define the specific political marketing tools, which could have been seen during broadcasting, whether their utilisation was specificaly meant to comunnicate throught television or not. Then, on the tools identified, to clarify how they used the marketing tools to form a media image of themselves and their oponent. The thesis also includes a brief comparison of the approaches of both candidates to the marketing strategy and to the creation of a media image.
