Comparative analysis of persuasive means used in the Czech and French news texts informing about Covid-19.
DLUHOŠOVÁ, Petra
This diploma thesis deals with the persuasive devices used in journalistic articles, French and Czech, and their comparison within these two languages. The thesis is divided into two parts. In the first part, the theoretical one, the thesis focuses mainly on the definition of the concept of persuasion and how it manifests itself within journalism. Then, it deals with the description of the journalistic style and journalism in general in the Czech and French settings and traces any differences between the two countries and cultures. In the second part, analytical one, it works with a specific sample of selected journalistic texts, demonstrating and observing these persuasive devices and assessing their relevance and frequency of their usage, again with the intention of documenting possible differences in the Czech and French settings, as well as differences in terms of different genres of journalism. However, the majority of the texts are news texts. This sample of texts focuses on a single theme concerning news and other journalistic articles reporting on the covid-2019 epidemic. The aim of the thesis is to compare the approach of the two concepts of persuasive means and to identify possible differences in their use. This comparison can be made at the level of differences between the two countries, as well as between different journalistic genres. The thesis also includes a set of selected journalistic articles that served as a basis for the analytical part of the thesis.

The specifics of television road cycling commentary - comparative analysis of linguistic features used in live streams from the Tour de France
Tinková, Alexandra ; Svobodová, Ivana (advisor) ; Schneiderová, Soňa (referee)
The main goal of this work is to analyze the linguistic features of road cycling commentary, as used by the Czech television's commentator Tomáš Jílek, and to observe the changes, that may have occurred in the ten years, that Czech television broadcasts the cycling race of Tour de France. The author firstly focuses on Czech linguistic theory, follows up with the theory of sports journalism and describes the specifics of spoken language used in the journalistic field. Furthermore, the author specifies concrete linguistic features, on which she then focuses in the analysis. The theoretical findings are thereafter applied and demonstrated in the analytic part of the work, which is focused on two race days selected from the Tour de France. Last but not least, the author compares the linguistic aspects of both commentaries and states other interesting outcomes of the analysis.
Standard and non-standard language in printed media communication and its impact on discussions about standard language
Pospíšilová, Martina ; Šoltys, Otakar (advisor) ; Jirák, Jan (referee)
The present Master's thesis analyses language means in printed media with a particular focus on national daily newspapers from the second trimester of 1993. That year, there was an important linguistic conference on standardised Czech and language culture. The analysis examines especially language means that deviate from the standardised norm of the language. The theoretical part discusses key concepts, such as norm and codification or national language and its varieties. The understanding of these terms is critical for the analytical part of the thesis where language means used in printed media are being analysed using quantitative content analysis. The aim of this analysis is to describe their motivation of use and function. The results are then compared with the proceedings of the 1993 conference on standardised Czech and language culture held in Olomouc. The thesis provides a clear view on how the occurrence of non-standardised language means in media influences academic discussion on standardised Czech.
Active vocabulary connected with the perception of
Skalová, Dana ; Kaslová, Michaela (advisor) ; Šarounová, Alena (referee)
The thesis deals with active vocabulary related to the perception of solid objects by 5-6- year-old children. The main objective of this thesis is to map which verbal expressions the children use when recognising, comparing and identifying solid objects, how they are able to cope with the deficit of the respective vocabulary, what details they notice most often in describing, identifying and comparing solid objects, or what is most easy for them and, by contrast, what they are not able to express in words. To meet this objective, an experiment method was applied. The experiment was conducted in two kindergartens according to the scenario prepared in advance, using a set of wooden solid objects, which the children were to identify, describe and compare. The contribution of the thesis consists in the fact that it addresses the topics related to pre- school age, which are not elaborated in more detail in the available literature.

Barylová, Hana ; Wiendl, Jan (advisor) ; Špirit, Michael (referee)
This bachelor's thesis presents a literary analysis of Anna Blažíčková's novella Psí víno. In four chapters I focus on the following: textual components (formal structure, textual coherence and basic narrative structure), linguistic components (stylistic, syntactic, lexical and morphological), characterization (types of characters, means of explicit and implicit characterization, realisation of the theme through characters) and the theme itself (themes of family, loss and work). The aim of this thesis is to discover and present basic structural and thematic components of the novella.
