How to implement multicultural education for pupils at primary school through working with text

This thesis focuses on the development of multicultural education in third year primary school students (in Czech education system) through work with literary texts. In terms of its form, it is divided into theoretical and research parts. The theoretical part contains basic information about multiculturalism, interculturalism, prejudices and stereotypes, deals with the concept of multicultural education in curriculum documents and goes into more detail about the development of reading literacy at the first level of primary school. In particular, it focuses on the development of reading skills through RWCT methods and the three-phase E-U-R learning model. The research part of this thesis contains a description of an action research carried out in the third year of primary school with the aim of developing multicultural education in pupils through a literary text. On the basis of observation, an interview with the class teacher and a pretest of pupils' current attitudes towards multicultural society, five reading lessons based on five selected children's books were realised and then reflected upon in order to develop pupils' multicultural education. Ethnic differences mediated to students in the 1st grade through stories

The diploma thesis deals with ethnic differences at the 1st level of primary education conveyed to students through literature for children. In the theoretical part of the work, the concept of multiculturalism and the related concepts of values, stereotypes and prejudices are defined, including descriptions of the most numerous minority populations in the Czech Republic. The thesis presents both multicultural education and intercultural education, their position in the school curriculum, the current situation in Czech schools and their development possibilities. Reading literacy, as well as its primary influencers, is an integral part of the theoretical part. Another section of the thesis describes literature for children focused on ethnic differences. The conclusion of this part presents selected reading methods, specifically the three-phase teaching model and the methods stemming from it. The aim of the practical part was to describe in what ways and the topic of ethnic differences can be conveyed to pupils in the 1st grade through literature for children; find out and describe their attitude towards the given topic and whether it has changed after the lessons learned. In this work, the topic of multicultural education in secondary schools and its relationship to the process of integration of students from foreign countries is discussed in detail. Emphasis will be placed on how educational processes and activities can be adapted to the needs of students of different cultures and how the level of understanding and tolerance between students can be increased. Another key question described here is the characteristics of personalities that contribute to the successful process of integration between students of different cultures and how these characteristics can be developed. Furthermore, the work reflects what the possibilities and limits are for the development of integration skills and how these skills can be developed through educational activities and programs. The work is divided into two parts: theoretical and practical. The theoretical part of the work deals with legislation, language and cultural differences. Discusses the issue of the increase in the number of foreign students in schools, the conditions for their admission to secondary schools and the subsequent teaching process. The aim of the practical part was to find out, with the help of the data obtained from the questionnaire survey, how pupils see the relation-ships between themselves and pupils-foreigners and, conversely, how foreigners perceive other pupils. The effort was to find out how integration and/or inclusion is realized in practice in the current high school.
Integration of children of Russian nationality through art education

This bachelor thesis focuses on the issue of integration of children of Russian nationality by means of art education. The theoretical part describes the terminological apparatus pertaining to the topic. It also deals with the characteristics of pupils with a different native language, including the specifics of pedagogical work with these pupils. It addresses the phenomenon of multiculturalism, inclusive education and the issue of migration and the history and reality of the Russian national minority in the Czech Republic. The didactic part then defines the potential of art education in relation to the integration of children with a different native language. The didactic part also contains two drafts of teaching units, which include a methodology for the implementation of activities and a methodological commentary. The teaching unit drafts are based on the works of two contemporary visual artist, Eva Koťátková and Viktor Pivovarov, and aim to bring the two cultures in question together.
The presence of the goals of intercultural education in the Children's home experience

This bachelor thesis deals with the objectives of intercultural education in the experience of children form the children´s home, in Boršov nad Vltavou. The theoretical part characterises the issues of multicultural education and intercultural education. There are basic information about this subject. The practical part contains the history of the children´s homes and the legislation that regulates their activities. The Children´s home in Boršov nad Vltavou is presented here more closely, with its projects and functions. Another chapter is dedicated to the pedagogical research and its methods. There are also interviews with four children from the children´s home in Boršov nad Vltavou. Each child brought different experiences and knowledge to this work. This part also addresses school´s educational function and how it fulfils it in connection with the issues of multicultural education and whether it creates a safe environment for children.
Challenges of integration of foreign pupils at primary schools

This thesis deals with the theme of integration and education of foreign pupils at primary schools. Further, it presents the findings which are connected with this theme. It focuses on classification of challenges and problems which can occur when the pupil starts to attend a school in a foreign country, and tries to find possible solutions and preventive measures as well. It has been confirmed that teachers see positive contribution of a foreign pupil in the class but they also admit and express concerns about insufficient preparedness and the lack of materials for work with the foreign pupils. The empirical part of this paper analyses three case studies which have been made thanks to observation of the foreign pupils and thanks to interviews with their class teachers. This part also concerns with teachers' opinions and their view of the challenges that are brought up by the presence a foreign pupil. The outcome of the thesis is a set of sample work sheets intended for foreign pupils. These worksheets are compatible with the textbooks for teaching Czech language which are commonly used at primary schools. Aplication of multicultural education in day nursery school

The diploma thesis deals with the possibilities of the application of multicultural education in nursery school through ethnic music. The theoretical part deals with clarifying of basic terms of the multicultural education, it describes personal and interpersonal development of the personality of a child in a pre-school age and possibilities of the development of the cooperation in a child group. it is also focused on the importance of music during accepting of differences of children and people. The practical part analysis statistic information of questionnairies for teachers in nursery schools. It also tries to find out the actors which influence the application of multicultural education in nursery schools in Moravian-Silesian region. It also introduces the pedagogical project focused on the possibility of the use of ethnic music for development of cooperation and accepting the differences by children.
Multicultural Education per ring ceramics advanced

I have called the work Multicultural Education pet ring ceramics (advanced). The goal is to introduce children of Interest Advanced ceramic ring formation and evolution of the world's continents, through awareness and understanding of culture and life of different nations, with the influence of the environment, society and the welfare of ceramic production in different regions on Earth. Final output will consist of two days of firing zakuřované ceramics exhibition of the Academy of the House of children and young people, participation of children in ceramic products for the contest organized by the DDM and SVC Regional Office.
Approaches used when teaching children in multicultural Nursery and Primary schools

Diploma thesis " Approaches to children in multicultural Nursery and Primary schools. It deals with the current approaches to children in Nursery and Primary schools, both in Czech schools and foreign schools located in the Czech Republic. First this thesis tries to find some historical context and understanding of the situation that Czech and foreign schools are faced with. Further attempts to map out the involvement of multicultural education into the curricula and teaching practice in the selected schools. Primarily it creates a comparison of approaches to multicultural education in selected schools in the Czech Republic. The thesis is trying to find inspiration for working with multicultural education in Czech schools, which do not pay much attention to multicultural education. Thesis should highlight the importance of multicultural education in schools and the benefits and positive impact of integrating this education into the curriculum of schools.
