Factors influencing the educational aspirations of primary school students

The thesis addresses the topic of educational aspirations, which is perceived as one of the important issues in the field of educational inequalities. Specifically, the thesis focuses on the factors influencing the educational aspirations of fifteen-year-old students from elementary schools in the Czech Republic and how these factors have evolved from the year 2003 to 2022. The theoretical part of the thesis describes the key concepts related to educational aspirations and also introduces social stratification models, which partially underpin the study of such aspirations. The thesis also presents the results of previous studies on educational aspirations, particularly from the Czech context, which were subsequently utilized in the practical part. This section of the thesis is dedicated to the analysis of data from the international PISA survey, specifically its editions spanning from the year 2003 to 2022. The analysis focuses on identifying significant factors influencing educational aspirations and their development over the observed period. The most important factors influencing educational aspirations were found to be gender, mathematical abilities, parental education, as well as socioeconomic index, and cultural capital of the family. High school students and the choice of university in families without university education

The bachelor thesis named High school students and the choice of university in families without university education will focus on decision to choose a university from the point of view of a high school student and his parent. The goal of this thesis is to point out factors influencing the choices of a high school student leading to continue study at the university and further to find out, what influences parents in supporting their children in further education. I specifically explore the situation of families, where the parents have not achieved university education. The theoretical part will familiarize the reader with basic concepts connected to choosing univerzity, choosing work and school and family environment, that have an effect on an idnividual. Furthermore in the theoretical part of my thesis, I focus on psychological evolvement of humans beings, specifically adolescence and emerging adulthood. In the empirical part I plan a qualitative research. Semi-structured interviews will be used for data collection. The data will be processed via open coding (grounded theory). The examined sample will consist of 6 respodents in the third year of general and vocational high schools and 3 parents with completed high school education. Bilingual classes on primary level from the perspective of educational equity. Case studies.

The diploma thesis compares learning conditions in bilingual and regular classrooms in two primary schools from the perspective of educational equity. The first chapter summarizes available information on bilingual classes in the Czech public school system (their prevalence, licensing conditions, and financing). The second chapter describes tracking in the Czech basic school system and its implications for educational inequity. The final chapter of the theoretical part describes the main school factors influencing student achievement in the Czech Republic and abroad. The empirical part presents case studies of two public schools that run a CLIL class. The schools differ in terms of the administrator of the bilingual class, target language, location, and financing of the class. The research compares regular and CLIL classes at each school with regards to admission procedures, pupil characteristics, learning conditions, teacher expectations, teaching methods, and other aspects influencing student achievement. The results reveal that bilingual and regular classes at both schools differ most in terms of socioeconomic compositition and student achievement, giving the pupils of bilingual classes an unfair advantage. Equal Opportunities for Education - in the Tertiary Education (Universities)

Education plays an increasingly important role in achieving success in life and the social ladder, because every individual should have the same opportunity to study regardless of their origin, social characteristics, educational family history or other ascriptive factors. This thesis deals with an access to higher education for those who come from low-income families or families where a higher education has no family history. It describes and analyzes the current access to tertiary education in the Czech Republic in the context of the equalization of opportunities of students from families with no tradition of higher education or lower socio- economic status. The theoretical part presents information about the issue of access to higher education. It explains the concepts which are often mentioned in this thesis, describes the historical development of the right to education and the path to the right of equal access to tertiary education in a modern society. The following describes the sociological theories on educational inequality and they are applied to the specific factors influencing equity of access to tertiary education. Educational reproduction and cultural capital . A qualitative study

Schools, Families and Inequality. Choice of Secondary Education in Contemporary Czech Society The dissertation work is concerned with the choice of secondary education in families, the influence of family and school on the choice of pupils born in the 1st half of 90s. A special importance of this phase is in that high schools in the Czech Republic are highly differentiated so the choice belongs to the crucial points of the school carrier. The type of the studied high school significantly influences learning aspirations and chances of the graduates to be accepted to further education, structures the field of possibilities in the life way of young people. The analysis is based on data obtained from two qualitative studies: 1. Focus groups with mothers of children in the ninth year of the compulsory education: students of (selective) multi-year grammar schools; pupils from basic schools (the main education stream); 2. Case studies carried out in two Prague schools focused on two classes in the eight and ninth year (2008-2010). Factors determining educational aspirations in the Czech Republic after 1989

5 Abstract In the bachelor thesis are described factors, which take part in forming of educational aspirations after 1989. Forming factors of educational aspirations are identified in the context of changes, which were in the Czech society during the last 25 years. The opening chapters are focused on historical context of forming educational aspirations. Factors are examined on the three levels: structural, individual and contextual. Forming factors are studied by available researches from the Czech republic and the point of view of their forming is enriched by knowledge from foreign researches. The thesis contains discussion about findings and the search of available studies, which contribute to aknowledgement of forming factors of educational aspirations. Počítačová gramotnost patnáctiletých žáků – dílčí téma vzdělanostních nerovností

Computer literacy of 15-year-old pupils is analyzed within this paper and situation in the Czech Republic, Germany and Hungary is discussed using the OECD PISA (Programme for International Student Assessment) 2003 dataset. The research question of what socio-economic factors affect computer literacy is elaborated. Besides significant differences between boys and girls, possession of a computer and an internet access was found to be most appropriate factor to explain distinctions in computer literacy.
