Analysis of information sources in Czech dailies'coverage about the Dozimetr case

The bachelor thesis focuses on the information sources used by the Czech printed national serious daily newspapers (Deník N, E15, Hospodářské noviny, Lidové noviny, MF DNES, Právo) in their coverage of the Dozimetr case. The thesis uses quantitative content analysis to examine which information sources the dailies quoted in the first month after the beginning of the Dozimetr case. In June 2022, the police charged thirteen people in this case, including then- deputy mayor Petr Hlubuček and Zlín businessman Michal Redl, for alleged corruption in the Prague Transport Company. One of the objectives of the research is to determine the extent to which the media cited unnamed sources or non-public police documents. The alleged overuse of such sources is regularly repeated in discussions of media coverage of criminal cases. The theoretical part of the thesis summarises the typology of information sources, information sources used in criminal cases and the way information is provided from criminal proceedings according to Czech legislation and case law. Tabloidization in Czech Daily Press - Changes between 1995 - 2010

Diploma thesis "Tabloidization of the Czech Daily Press - Changes between 1995 - 2010" deals with continuous process of changes in Czech daily press. The study focuses on national Czech dailies both quality press and tabloid during the period of 1995 to 2010. It tries to explain different aspects that have brought the changes. The goal of this study is to show the tabloidization characteristics with the defined indicators in the quantitative analysis. Based on analysed data it can be concluded that not all dailies chosen show all features of tabloidization. The results of this investigation also indicated that the Czech dailies mostly tend to increase the number of local news and decrease the number of political news.
Czech-German Declaration in selected Czech and German daily newspapers

In this paper I study point of view of four czech and german newspapers and points of view of people, which they cement and that all in case of Czech-German Declaration. The studied newspapers are Czech Právo and MF Dnes and on the other side German Süddeutsche Zeitung and Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung. These will be compared i four time perionds: December 1996 - January 1997, May 1997, first and tenth anniversary of Declaration.
Tabloidization of Czech dailies before and after the death of Karel Svoboda

The diploma thesis "Tabloidization of Czech dailies before and after the death of Karel Svoboda" focuses on suicide of popular Czech songwriter and composer and analyzes the way in which Czech dailies covered this event - including tabloids and also quality papers. This diploma thesis is a case study, with brief theoretical introduction about tabloidization and framing and detailed analysis of framing in three important Czech dailies, which contributes to the description of some of the aspects of tabloidization of Czech newspapers.
Media Image of Poverty in Selected Czech Media

anglicky This thesis captures the media image of poverty in the Czech Republic, which is presented in four national daily newspapers on pages dealing with reporting. This work is divided into theoretical part, methodological part and research. The theoretical part deals with media concepts, such as representation of reality, framing, stereotyping, discourse, media image and interconnection issues of poverty and the media. The theoretical part also defines socio- political concepts associated with poverty, their definitions and detailed specification in the context of the Czech Republic. The methodological part defines the used methods, periodicals and investigated research, sample work attaching to the keyword poverty and its variations. Following part is the research, which deals with the quantitative content analysis and qualitative framework analysis, using which corresponds to a set of research questions. Framing of immigration in Czech daily newspapers

The analysis "Framing of immigration in Czech daily newspapers" reveals how Czech daily newspapers framed so called migration crisis in Europe in 2015 when the immi- gration issue belonged to the most important issues in both Czech and foreign news media. This thesis draws from theoretical and analytical concept of media framing and concept of Agenda setting which deal with aspects used by media in describing reality, and their media effects on public opinion. Quantitative content analysis of five national daily newspapers revealed that immi- gration issue was represented mainly as international political problem, followed by security threat as the second most frequent topic of news on immigration. In almost all news articles the immigration issue was framed as problem, whereas cause frame and solution frame were present in approximately a quarter of news on immigration. Czech and foreign politicians and government sources were the most cited or para- phrased actors in Czech daily newspapers. On the other hand, refugees, immigrants and ci- tizens were less frequent speakers, and experts rarely commented on the issue of immigration in Czech daily newspapers. The media image of pope Francis in the czech daily press

Pope Francis, who was elected 13th March, 2013 after the unexpected resignation of Pope Benedict XVI., became in a short time one of the world's most popular leaders ever because of his behavior and demeanor. Also world mass media played a big part in it as Pope Francis became a very important media personality. Also he contributed heavily to this fact by using the media intensively himself. He continues in the footsteps of his predecessors, he extensively uses all the media possibilities he can reach and since becoming the Pope he collaborates with a team of media experts who successfully help with his communication strategy. This master thesis titled "Media image of Pope Francis in Czech Daily Press" and it attempts to capture the person of Pope Francis and the reasons for his success and general popularity and to outline how much medialized he actually is in our country, which ranks amongst the secularized states. The pivotal part of the text therefore constitutes of the quantitative content analysis, which focuses on the media coverage of the Pope in the four most widely read Czech Daily Press (MF Dnes, Lidové noviny, Hospodářské noviny and Právo) and thus try to interpret his media image, of how Czech society might perceive him.
Construction of Czech national identity in Czech print media

The diploma thesis "Construction of Czech national identity in Czech print media: a qualitative analysis of Mladá fronta DNES and Právo daily newspapers in the years 1999 and 2004" is concerned with the media constructing of Czech national identity in the content of two significant Czech print dailies. The concrete period chosen for the analysis of the construction is from 1st until 31st March in 1999 and it involves the accession of the Czech Republic to NATO (12th March), in the year 2004 the period is from 19th April until 19th May and it contains the accession of the Czech Republic to the EU (1st May). The qualitative method is used for the study of the construction. It is dealt with as an interpretative analysis of the text. With the aid of the relevant literature the study analyzes and interprets the found constructions of Czech national identity. It examines what identity and character and which traditions and attributes are given to the Czech nation by selected newspapers. It notices potential differences and uniformities between both newspapers and between 1999 and 2004. The analytical part of the thesis is complemented by the theoretical part and the methodology.
