Echoes of Ovid's Metamorphoses
Stašová, Ema ; Pokorný, Martin (advisor) ; Hrdlička, Josef (referee)
The aim of this study is to compare selected episodes of Ovid's Metamorphoses with three works of modern literature containing the theme of metamorphosis, and to follow their intertextual relations, dependency and innovation of Ovidian themes. On the basis of a comparison of the ancient and the modern text it is examined which motives remain constant during centuries and which, on the contrary, are evolving and shifting their meanings. Through the perspective of the Metamorphoses an attempt is made to interpret the works from a less usual angle. The most significant Ovidian characters that are examined in this study are Teiresias, Daphne, Hyacinth, Orpheus, Ceres, Icarus, Callisto and Io.
Issues in Literary Hermeneutics
Válková, Natalia ; Pokorný, Martin (advisor) ; Hrdlička, Josef (referee)
The goal of this thesis is to explore the possibility of systematization of the literary hermeneutics as a method of interpretation. Three selective studies focused on the hermeneutic the- ory (namely problem of the language, understanding and textuality) should provide a theoretical and philosophical framework for the interpretative part of this thesis, which is focused on interpretation of a literary text, namely Joseph Brodsky's poem Isaac and Abraham. The thesis also explores con- cept of the literary hermeneutics, which stands between phenomenological-ontological hermeneu- tics and methodological-normanative orientated theory of interpretation. Despite the explicit tension between these two attitudes, there is also a space within the literary hermeneutics for their inspira- tional dialog.
Analysis of Point Clouds Representing Surfaces of Engineering Practice
Surynková, Petra ; Voráčová, Šárka (advisor) ; Pokorný, Milan (referee) ; Lávička, Miroslav (referee)
Title: Analysis of Point Clouds Representing Surfaces of Engineering Practice Author: Petra Surynková Department: Department of Mathematics Education Supervisor: Mgr. Šárka Voráčová, Ph.D., Faculty of Transportation Sciences, Czech Technical University in Prague Abstract: The doctoral dissertation Analysis of Point Clouds Representing Surfaces of Engineering Practice addresses the development and application of methods of digital reconstruction of surfaces of engineering and construction practice from point clouds. The main outcome of the dissertation is a presentation of new procedures and methods that contribute to each of the stages of the reconstruction process from the input point clouds. The work is mainly focused on the analysis of input clouds that describe special types of surfaces. Several completely new algorithms and improvements of existing algorithms that contribute to individual steps of surface reconstruction are presented. New procedures are based on geometrical characteristics of the reconstructed object. An important result of the dissertation is an analysis of not only synthetically generated point clouds but above all an analysis of real point clouds that have been obtained from measurements of real objects. The significant contribution of the dissertation is also an...
ICT support of education in Youth diagnostic centers
Pokorný, Michal ; Brdička, Bořivoj (advisor) ; Leipert, Jiří (referee)
The thesis is focused on an investigation of the benefit evoked by the ICT supported connected instruction between the Child Diagnostic Institute (the DDU) and the tribal school of a pupil, who comes to DDU for a voluntary diagnostic stay (DDP). The aim of this work is to determine an interest in this project among teachers, both from DDU and teachers from primary schools, whose pupils attended the DDU. The method of research is an online survey among teachers from DDU and teachers from schools outside the Diagnostic Institute who have experience with the DDU clients. The results are evaluated separately for teachers from DDU and teachers from other primary schools that have experiences with those pupils.
Weak formulation of equations describing fluid flows
Dostalík, Mark ; Pokorný, Milan (advisor) ; Kaplický, Petr (referee)
The standard way of deriving the weak formulation of balance equations of continuum mechanics is derived from their localized form, and thus requires differentiability of functions involved in the corresponding balance law. However, the existence of classical solutions of these equations is often not known. It would be suitable to find a transition to the weak formulation of balance laws without the need of their differential form. The aim of this work is to show that the initial integral form of balance equations of continuum mechanics, provided relatively weak assumptions, directly implies their weak formulation, and thus that the weak solution is for these equations a more natural notion than the classical solution is.
Proposal for Motivation System Concept Changes in the Selected Company
Hlavatý, Adam ; Pokorný, Miloš (referee) ; Konečná, Zdeňka (advisor)
The subject of this bachelor thesis is a recommendation to improve motivational system in Fontana R ltd. on the basics of the current. Theoretical part enlightens basic knowledge of motivation and motivational theories and stands as a starting point for the empirical part of the thesis. The result of this thesis is a suggestion of improvement for the company: financial rewards, transport allowance, sick days etc.
Textil Integrated Horn Antenna
Jaroš, Ondřej ; Pokorný, Michal (referee) ; Vélim, Jan (advisor)
This diploma thesis describes the corrugated substrate integrated horn antenna designed to surface wave’s excitation in the UWB band groups 3, 4, 5 and 6 (6 – 10 GHz). The antenna is integrated into 3,4 mm thick textile with relative permittivity r = 1,195. The coaxial cable is connected via the SMA connector that is attached to the aluminum bracket. From the microstrip line transition the corrugated substrate integrated waveguide is excited. Two strip lines are placed in front of the aperture for improvement of the impedance matching. The directivity of the antenna is 12 dBi at 8 GHz. At the same frequency, the antenna efficiency is 70%.
Planar and wired Yagi-Uda antennas
Křepela, Pavel ; Pokorný, Michal (referee) ; Mikulášek, Tomáš (advisor)
This work deals with the study of Yagi-Uda antennas, followed by analysis and design of planar antenna with wired reflector. The first part focused on the analysis of the antenna and parameters. Another part of the continuing investigation of the optimum parameters for a given antenna followed by a design in Wi-Fi 5 GHz band. The antenna is simulated in CST Microwave Studio. The final part devoted the results achieved
Story and its "what" and "about what"
Špína, Michal ; Bílek, Petr (advisor) ; Pokorný, Martin (referee)
The thesis deals with the question of interpretation of narrative works of fiction in regard to what the text refers to (what is usually termed reference). On the work of three differently focused authors (Frege, Ortega y Gasset, Shklovsky) it studies reference pushed aside as a thing unimportant or even impossible in art. Structuralism, developing mainly in France after 1960, supplants these questions with exploring the literalness of literary works and their inner relations, allowing narratology to arise. Subsequently, Paul Ricoeur aims for the synthesis of structuralism and hermeneutics. Approaching literary work as discourse, he distinguishes the "what" and "what about" of works, following Frege's distinction between sense and reference (meaning), while reference of a work is not descriptive. In Time and Narrative he uses the term refiguration instead of reference and emphasizes the temporal aspect of literary work and its reception. The thesis is closed with a brief interpretation of Budapest, a novel by Chico Buarque (2003).
