The purpose of this bachelor thesis is to describe the role and the position of radio in the era of convergence of media. From the third decade of the twentieth century when radio became a mass medium it still has its position in the society, after all changes in the world of media. In the theoretical section, this thesis introduces development trends in the history of radio, terms like new media, convergence or hybridization of media and the reaction of radio on these new media trends. The second practical part introduces results of the research which was divided into a quantitative and into a qualitative part. The quantitative part was realized by the survey. The aim of this survey was to find out if people in the Czech Republic listen to the radio. If they do listen to the radio, the information needed was how often, where or what they listen to. Qualitative part was realized through six semistructured interviews with respondents from different generations. The aim of this part was to confirm and complete findings from the survey. The aim of this work is to describe how the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia influenced the personnel policy of the Czechoslovak Radio and thereby interfered into radio broadcasting in the years 1945 - 1948. In the introductory chapters thesis focuses on political and economic developments in Czechoslovakia after 1945, with a significant part describing the parliamentary elections in May, 1946. In the following chapters thesis describes the development of media, which had entirely a new socially responsible role. At the same time in the post-war Czechoslovakia there was a prevailing opinion that the media should not be a subject of uncontrolled business anymore, but rather should be under state control. The main part of the thesis describes the development of Radio. At that time the only mass medium also obtained a new role - in the past broadcasting had primarily a entertainment feature, during the Third Republic Radio became an imporant organizer of public life. Under the circumstances various groups had an interest to gain influence in Radio. Mostly communists were successful. It was easier, because they managed to occupy several crucial functions of the management of Radio. At the same time they interefered with a strong apparatus - from the Ministry of Information, through the Revolutionary...
Radio broadcasting as a community tool of urban subcultur
Míkovcová, Eliška ; Maršík, Josef (advisor) ; Křeček, Jan (referee)
This diploma thesis aims to describe and explain the phenomenon of the community radio broadcasting. Despite the fact, that this sector has not been implemented in the Czech media system to supplement the dual system of public and private stations, broadcasting of this type does exist. As a subject of my case study I chose the internet radio StreetCulture as I consider it to be a unique example within the Czech media market. StreetCulture proves its specificity with a very wide range of contents. It acts as a platform for a large number of different communities and it also interconnects the participants within the public space StreetBar. The analytical part of the thesis investigates how this radio station fulfils four basic dimensions of community media as defined by the media theorist Nico Carpentier: community aspect, alternative aspect, civil aspect and rhizomatic aspect. For each of these specifics I tried to demonstrate how it relates to the StreetCulture radio station concerning both the organization and content of the broadcast and how it is reflected in various non-broadcasting activities of StreetCulture. The aim of this study is not to draw general conclusions which could be applied to other community stations in the Czech Republic. It rather offers a detailed insight into the...
