Analysis of Final Scores in Czech Video Game Media
Svoboda, Filip ; Houška, Jan (advisor) ; Švelch, Jaroslav (referee)
In a video game review, it is common to include a numerical recommendation rating in addition to a textual evaluation of the product (game). How (on what scale and how to use such scale) and whether to evaluate numerically or otherwise is a subject of extensive debate in the video game journalism context. The thesis aims to answer the question of how video game reviewers perceive the problematic aspects of the final scores through the interviews with Czech game reviewers. It compares the findings with each other and provides context. It also maps how scoring systems have changed over time.

Media without virtue? Ethical aspects of the digital structural transformation of the public
Vizina, Petr ; Štica, Petr (advisor) ; Ovečka, Libor (referee)
The thesis is an attempt to capture some of the ethical and social challenges posed by the digital structural transformation of the public. In the text I develop the idea of the social doctrine of the Church, which considers media as a means of communication as a gift from God. The paper investigates whether and how this fundamental aspect of Christian social ethics can be considered in the context of the fundamental transformation of social and individual communication during digital structural change. The thesis aims to explore how and where classic norms of journalism such as impartiality, balance and factuality on the part of the media are shifting and changing in a new context, in the context of the spread and availability of digital technologies and how digital platforms have transformed the production and dissemination of media content. Questions around the economic and knowledge asymmetries associated with the development of communication technologies, and the social and ethical implications for the actions of individuals and communities are part of the consideration. The diploma thesis focuses on how the topic of alcohol consumption was framed in the Czech press in two subsequent periods: 2018-2019 and 2020-2021. The emphasis is put on comparing the findings from both research periods, both in terms of frames and other variables studied, such as the topic, the source cited, or the relationship between the sex of the protagonists and the narrative(s) present. The theoretical part of the thesis discusses the influence of media content on public sphere, through the description of the phenomenon of agenda-setting. Then the framing itself is presented, both through the perspective of the agenda-setting theory (as a subset of it), but also as a completely autonomous phenomenon. Different perspectives on framing are presented which are then illustrated with several spatiotemporally distinct studies that address the media framing of alcohol use. The analytical part consists of two methodological components - qualitative and quantitative content analysis. First, qualitative content analysis is used in order to find and describe issue-specific frames at the forefront of the generic conflict frame. Subsequently, the presence of the described specific conflict narratives in both research periods is quantified and the findings are compared. The results suggest that alcohol...
