Finnish media landscape - print media

Bachelor's thesis aims to describe the structure of contemporary print media in the Republic of Finland and the way they function. It focuses namely on the periodically issued print, i.e. newspapers and magazines. The introduction part contains a brief outline of historical background of the Finnish media system and thereby delineates the rise and development of print but also of other media in this country. Next the thesis describes the main characteristics of the said system relating it with economical, social and political bases. Third part of the text covers more specifically some of the present- day titles and their position within the Finnish print market. Internet and its influence on print media in Finland are dealt with in the final part of the work, which also in this context attempts to describe a possible future outlook of the Finnish press. The purpose of this thesis is to present a comprehensive summary of the Finnish print media and of their place within the Finnish media landscape.
Czech-German Declaration in selected Czech and German daily newspapers

In this paper I study point of view of four czech and german newspapers and points of view of people, which they cement and that all in case of Czech-German Declaration. The studied newspapers are Czech Právo and MF Dnes and on the other side German Süddeutsche Zeitung and Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung. These will be compared i four time perionds: December 1996 - January 1997, May 1997, first and tenth anniversary of Declaration.

Lenka Felcmanová ABSTRACT: The thesis "The phenomenon of disability and its image in the print media" aims to find out how periodicals framed chosen topic of disabilities in one year. The theoretical part of the thesis deals with the typology of models of disability and the definition of disability from different perspectives. The third chapter provides an overview of how the media shape the attitudes of society. The research section concentrates on how the media has framed newspaper articles and whether terminology changes were reflected in the media. Photography in printed media ahead elections (Chamber of Deputies of the Czech Parliament, 2006)

This thesis called "Printed Media Photographs ahead the Elections (Chamber of Deputies of the Czech Parliament, 2006)" brings an analysis of politicians'picture in the five quality-press newspapers ahead of the elections to the lower chamber of the Czech Parliament. This analysis uses the quantitative content analysis, follows up emergence of issues and draws comparisons among the newspapers and political parties. This thesis sums up the main aspects of the photographs in the printed media ahead of the Elections. There are up to 90 graphs that simply show the outcomes even of the multilevel analysis. Analysed daily newspapers were the following: Hospodářské noviny, Mladá fronta Dnes, Lidové noviny, Právo and Haló noviny. The analysis was done by means of the SPSS statistical software.
Sport news in the Czech print media agenda:Changes in coverage and presentation of sports and the influence on a public agenda in 1993-2007

The diploma thesis Sport news in the Czech print media agenda: changes in coverage and presentation of sports and the influence on a public agenda in 1993 - 2007 analyses sport news of the chosen print media and its changes in a long- time period. This thesis finds out whether and to what extent the sport news pages extend, which sports and in what way are presented, and whether changes of the coverage occur. Next question is, whether the long-term coverage of certain sports can influence public opinion on which sports to consider as important and favorite. In addition to that, this thesis is concerned with the occurrences of personalization and celebritization trends in the Czech print media sport news.
Luxury printed titles on the Czech media market

This Master's thesis focuses on the current luxury print media, which are published in the Czech Republic and are intended for the general public. At first, a theoretical part introduces the entire contemporary print media market, with an emphasis on periodically published titles. The thesis also deals with factors, that affect the form of these titles and media in general, using knowledge of a political economy of communication. Subsequently, the thesis shifts attention to its main topic - a luxury in general and luxury magazines. These magazines are described and set in the context of niche media. The thesis also summarizes knowledge about advertising. The research uses a qualitative research method with a partial application of a quantitative method: categorization, description, and comparison. It brings a summary of all currently published luxury periodicals, which are categorized based on thematic focus, periodicity, price, and publisher. The main part of the research is an analysis of ten titles (53x11, Můj dům, Motorbike, Dolce Vita, Bylinky Revue, SCORE, Kreativ, Vesmír, FC and dTest), in which a self- presentation, a target reader, a content, and a graphic design are described and evaluated. In particular, it seeks to find the main principles of making articles about the new Czech fiction more attractive in selected serious daily newspapers (Právo, Mladá fronta DNES, Lidové noviny, Hospodářské noviny, Metro) and their online versions (novinky.cz, iDNES.cz, lidovky.cz, iHNed.cz, metro.cz and aktuálně.cz). The first, theoretical part is explaining and mapping the state of Czech literature, media and their interconnectedness and the basic concepts relating directly to the topic are explained here.
