Findings of new troglophilous millipede species
Tajovský, Karel ; Mlejnek, R.
The recent research carried out by the Cave Administration of the Czech Republic in co-operation with the Institute of Soil Biology, Academy of Science of the Czech Republic, České Budějovice clearly shows that invertebrate species diversity in caves in the Czech Republic is much higher than it was previously thought. In 32 caves in Bohemia and Moravia, 35 millipede species have been found which is about a half of the number inhabiting the Czech Republic as a whole. In species -poor and simplified food webs in caves and other underground habitats, millipedes play a significant role in litter decomposition and in control and spreading micro-organisms, particularly microscopic fungi. Therefore, keeping the decayed (rotted) wood can maintain necessary life conditions for these invertebrates there. Two millipede species are new for the Czech Republic fauna. The tiny white millipede .i.Brachychaeteuma bradeae./i. has been reported from six caves while .i.Macrosternodesmus palicola./i. occurs on the country's territory only at the Mladeč Caves (central Moravia).

Šárovcová, Martina ; Homolka, Jaromír (advisor) ; Royt, Jan (referee) ; Holeton, David Ralph (referee)
Iconography of the Czech written Utraquist graduals Abstract: My doctoral thesis is devoted to the iconographic problems of painting decorations of a specific type of liturgical manuscripts. The subject of my doctoral thesis are illuminated chant books (graduals) with Czech texts of Gregorian chant, which originated in the 16th century for the needs of utraquist Confraternities of Litterati. The iconography of illuminations is interpreted with regards to their liturgical and codicological context within single part of the gradual. In the text, I especially accentuate the topics and motives from the whole complex of the themes which deserve attention and which newly appear in the structure of painting decorations or it is possible to interpret them in connection with the haecceity of the (utraquist) iconography and confessional identity. Heuristic compilation of illuminated utraquist chant books, which is the part of the structured catalogue, and interpretation of their iconography, represents the first elaboration which is fundamental to successive study dealing with iconography of single subjects, illustrations of particular saints and patron saints of places and specificity of the utraquist and catholic iconography in the epoch before the battle of White Mountain in Bohemia. My thesis, with regards to...

The general change of this sector and its contribution to Germany are evaluated in wider context of Nazi's exploitation of occupied territories.

The idea of a Film Chamber. The Bohemian-Moravian Film Union and continuity of centralizing tendencies in the film industry in the 1930s and 1940
Czesany Dvořáková, Tereza ; Klimeš, Ivan (advisor) ; Just, Vladimír (referee) ; Szczepanik, Petr (referee)
The key theme of this thesis is the development of the film-industry self-regulation during the years immediately preceding the occupation of the Czech Lands by Nazi Germany and the period of the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia. Already in the First Republic (1918- 1939), the association structures were characterized by highly hierarchical relations and encompassed all areas - film production, film distribution and the cinema system. The predominant role was played by film industry associations and the largest unions of film workers. These organizations pressed for the solution of the protracted legislative deficits which complicated the day-to-day operation of the film industry. Starting in the second half of the 1930s, the essential aims of the activities of the film self-regulation included the foundation of a Film Chamber as the central body of Czech cinematography. The guarantor of the future public corporation, and possibly its financier, was to be the government. The views regarding the form of this institution were also influenced by foreign models, including the corporate structures of the Third Reich cinematography. As the authorities were taking their time to act, while the political situation was quickly changing, the film industry associations provisionally centralized their...

The Folk Song as a Source of Inspiration in Activities in Music Lessons in Primary Schools
Brabníková, Klára ; Herden, Jaroslav (advisor) ; Váňová, Hana (referee)
Teachers often use folk songs as a means to teach children singing in tune and other musical skills or music theory. However, a deeper knowledge of the song itself happens to be missing. Yet, learning more about the music, looking deeper into its core can open new possibilities of its use in the classroom. The aim of this work is to demonstrate the path that a teacher should go through when, trying to gather knowledge about a folk song. Folk music is no more as popular as it used to be. It is therefore necessary for the teacher to spend more energy on the preparation to make it more attractive for the students. Folk song has the important feature of flexibility. The end of the 20lh century brought a new style of music combining folk songs with pop music. Its authors find inspiration in folklore, making it the basis of their own creative work. Such music thus reveals another possibility to bring the folk song closer to the today's audience and especially the young generation. Nevertheless, for the practical part I have chosen a different strategy: through encountering the folk music (songs of the southern Bohemia in this case) children learn about some features of modern pop music (from jazz through mid stream pop song to pop music.
