The diploma thesis Media picture of building the Berlin wall - Rudé právo, The New York Times, The Times addresses the events associated with the construction of the Berlin Wall in 1961 and primarily presents the analysis of newspaper articles connected to the Berlin Wall topic. The issue of the Berlin Wall is portrayed before its construction, during the construction and immediately after it. In the "Teoretická východiska" chapter, the concepts used as a basis of the subsequent analysis of selected newspapers are explained. The first part of the thesis presents the historical and political circumstances of the Berlin Wall construction, especially the development of the Cold War between the representatives of East and West. The analysis of the three selected newspaper titles is preceded by a narrative interview with a foreign correspondent from Rudé právo. His statements serve as an illustration of the former Berlin atmosphere. In the analysis of the newspapers Rudé právo, The New York Times and The Times, emphasis is placed on the article contents, presentation style, theme diversity, trends and information value of the presented news. Agenda-setting at the Local Level

The rigorous thesis named Agenda-setting at the Local Level deals with concept agenda-setting and applies it on the research made in local conditions. It is checked to what degree the process of agenda-setting is functional on this level and how in the concrete it expresses oneself. At the same time follows up-to-date trend of research in agenda-setting being characterized by displacement from macro structural level to micro structural level and by replacement of general hypotheses to concrete hypotheses. The rigorous thesis describes relationships among citizens of Nové Město na Moravě including integrated villages as representatives of local public agenda, toll-free fortnightly Novoměstsko that belongs to local media agenda and municipal politicians as representatives of local political agenda. It is based on groundbreaking studies that checked the validity of agenda-setting on the macro structural level and it is used quantitative and qualitative methods that propped oneself upon that studies. The way of fortnightly publishing and the town government were changed in the period between the first and the second research. Therefore, the rigorous thesis also analyzes impact of these changes on the process of agenda-setting.
The Role of National Identities in the Media Space Devoted to European Politics: The Czech Presidency of the European Union in European Press

Barbora Youssef Staňkovská - abstract (annotation) of the Master thesis "The Role of National Identities in the Media Space Devoted to European Politics: The Czech Presidency of the European Union in European Press" Abstract Diploma thesis "The Role of National Identities in the Media Space Devoted to European Politics: The Czech Presidency of the European Union in European Press" deals with media images of national identities, the way of their formation in media, and the effects of these images on transformations of national identities during the process of European integration. Using the qualitative content analysis and an inductive approach to the collected data, an analysis of two corpuses of articles was carried out. These articles treated the topic of the Czech presidency of the European Union and were published during that period in the Czech newspaper MF DNES and the French newspaper Le Monde. The most important Czech actors and other elements were identified, which together hold up the media image of the Czech Republic. The media image of the Czech national identity is described through them. Czech EU Presidency seen through the eyes of the member and non-member country: Semioticanalysis of the czech and swiss printed media in the period of the Czech EU Presideney

The master thesis "Czech presidency through the eyes of the member and non- member country" considers with the confrontation of articles from the time period of the EU-Czech Presidency which were published in the Czech newspaper Hospodarske noviny a in the Swiss newspaper Neue Zürcher Zeitung. The work concerns with that point how both newspapers constructed the reality of the Czech Republic during its EU-Presidency. The analysis will proceed through the framing method and semiotic analysis. From the framing analysis will result the quantitative data and in the semiotic analysis is included the critical discoursive analysis. The CDA will be discussed in the thesis. Media shows to the audience the secondary reality and they have impact to that what the people think about and what attitude they contain to which event. At this process participates the language. In the master thesis we would like to prove that the Swiss media Show another reality than the Czech one.
Medial muck-raking of sexual affairs in fold in czech press in spring 2010

The thesis "Medial muck-raking of sexual affairs in the Church in Czech press in spring 2010" through the use of medial ruts, stereotypes and logic, inquires into medial texts from the springtime 2010, which have referenced to sexual affairs in Catholic Church. Based on medial theories (gatekeeping, social construction of reality, agenda setting etc.) the thesis follows up the reflection of the theme and specifics of media discourse. This view is complemented with interviews with members of the Church, which give the thesis out-of- media extent. Qualitative part of the thesis takes sexual affairs in Church as illustrative theme, which is meant in connection with the Roman Catholic Church reflected by Czech media. The thesis also attempts to generalize the actual medial reflection of the Church on the background of current medial trends. It tries to offer a way how to improve the relationship between two part of culture - media and the Roman Catholic Church. To put the thesis into context it will be provided with information about history of the Roman Catolic Church and relationship of Czech society to matters of the church, because it determinates perception of medial news about this theme.

The thesis analyzes media's ability to establish their chosen issues and thus affect the relevance of the political groups, leading to better outcomes of selected politicians in elections The thesis is based on the assumption of rational ignorance and the assumption of voters choosing between political parties that have a real chance to be elected. The hypothesis is that the very relevance of a political group is determined by media. Empirical research is based on the elections to the Chamber of Deputies of the Czech Republic in 2013.

This diploma thesis focuses on relations between a candidate and a political party and how these relations are influenced by political marketing and media. Political party TOP 09 and its leader Karel Schwarzenberg are studied during the political campaign preceding Czech legislative election in May 2010. The study is based on TOP 09's documents and interviews of Karel Schwarzenberg in Czech media. Theoretical part of this thesis is dedicated to concepts of political marketing, influence of media and models of communication. Content analysis compares themes and ways to speak about them used by the party and by Schwarzenberg. Qualitative analysis asks if the party can make use of Schwrazenberg for its own campaign and how strength and what sort of are relations between TOP 09 and its leader.

This bachelor thesis wants to find out the way in which media image of the Czech Republic in 2011 is being constructed in foreign media by research method of quantitative and qualitative analysis. All media outputs which were collected in abroad by Representation of the Czech Tourist Authority - CzechTourism are evaluated by quantitative analysis. The qualitative analysis try to discover the media image in selected media of the Russian Federation and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and verify the correlation of this image with the quantitative analysis developed by agencies for public opinion research.

The purpose of this Master's thesis is to analyse the image of Mexico in the media of the United States in the first half of 2010. First, the author gives an overview of selected media theories and describes the specifics of the U.S. media market. On the sample of the three media (El Paso Times, New York Times and Fox News) she analyses how were the U.S. media referring about Mexico and its citizens. She is validating hypotheses, which she based on characteristics of each of analysed media. She comes to a conclusion that reporting about Mexico varies among the selected media, which reflects specifics of each of them. In conclusion, she is applying some of the media theories presented in the first chapter. She finds that CNN effect and framing occur. Additionally, she argues that Baudrillard's simulacrum also appears.
