Reception of Czech literature in Spain considering the mediating role of German
Vavroušová, Petra ; Králová, Jana (advisor) ; Prokop, Josef (referee) ; Martino Alba, Pilar (referee)
The objective of the present doctoral thesis is to describe the reception of Czech literature in Spain between 1900 and 2015 with a special emphasis on German as a mediating language for translation between Czech and Spanish, placing Czech research of this phenomenon into a broad international context of investigating the role of languages and cultures in multilingual communities. The thesis further explores issues partially covered by previous research (Uličný 2005, Špirk 2011, 2014, Cuenca 2013). The theoretical part first provides a short historical context of both countries, commenting on their bilateral relations during the 20th century, analysing the publishing sector and describing the official censorship. It then provides a detailed investigation of indirect translations and introduces diverse methods in which they can be explored, highlighting the importance of paratextual material, that is paratexts (Genette 1982, 1987) and metatexts (Popovič 1975, 1983), and the influence of censorship and dominant ideology (Abellán 1980, 1982, 1987; Neuschäfer 1994). Methodologically, the present work relies on Czech and Slovak translation studies (Levý, Popovič) and the Spanish TRACE project (Rabadán, Merino). The empirical part uses the methodological tools of critical discourse analysis, author's...

Vaňková, Petra ; Rynda, Ivan (advisor) ; Havránek, Miroslav (referee)
Thesis is focused on one specific territory - Manětínsko and deals with the possibility of creating credible scenarios of its future development. Although our future will always remain hidden is important to consider its direction that we can expect, especially in today's world, where nature and environment are endangered on a global scale. Human society also stands on fragile basis/foundations and must face the economic and other crises. Therefore, it is important to think ahead about possible future development at all levels (local, regional and global) and to try to avoid events that could threaten the overall development/ the development progress. Scenarios are also an important tool for strategic planning and can offer different options for actions and decision making. The work is divided into theoretical and empirical part. The theoretical part deals primarily with the selected location itself and its most important characteristics. This part is an important basis for the empirical part, which besides other things is based on data obtained from interviews with selected respondents. Outline of these interviews arose on this theoretical basis. It was the 12 interviews that aimed to identify major problems and opportunities of Manětínsko, which will play role in the future development of the...

Štanclová, Kamila ; Pavlík, Petr (advisor) ; Jahodová, Dita (referee)
1 ABSTRACT The aim of this thesis is to introduce the issue of sexual harassment from the perspective of students of Czech universities. I present a brief history of the phenomenon of sexual harassment and its definitions in the theoretical section. I deal with power aspects of harassing behavior and I present its impacts on harassed persons. I also put sexual harassment into research and legislative context and I devote to the specifics of the school and the Czech setting. The empirical part is dedicated to my research. On the basis of qualitative research I find out how students define sexual harassment, what personal and mediated experience they have with it, what strategies they choose, if they are to cope with this behavior, and how they evaluate it. I focus on the question, with whom they solve sexual harassment, and I present their suggestions of solving and prevention of sexual harassment. I also discuss how they evaluate relationships with teachers.
