Theory of Frames and its Educational Possibilities Jan Huleja Czech Language Departement PhDr. Ladislav Janovec, Ph.D. Abstract The dissertation Theory of Frames and its Educational Possibilities consists of a theoretical, practical and didactic chapter. The theme of the first chapter is the Theory of Frames that includes a variety of concepts and theoretical views across different humanities and social disciplines that discuss how individuals, groups and societies perceive and organize reality and how they communicate about it. In the next part of the dissertation the application Frames of Ostrava in the Czech Linguistic Picture of the World demonstrates the potential of the Theory of Frames for cultural-linguistic and discourse analyzes. It analyses an extensive and representative sample of Czech language material (text, system and empirical language data) and attempts to reconstruct the Czech linguistic picture of Ostrava. We are focusing on what frames the picture of Ostrava is composed of, i. e. how it is predominantly portrayed by the users of the Czech language, how they narrate about it. At the same time our aim is to present Ostrava as a significant Czech cultural and social phenomenon evoked by such lexical units and structured by such conceptual means that are unmistakably "Ostravian" in the text...
The United Kingdom Independence Party media representation in selected British media between the years 2014 and 2016

This thesis analyzes media representation of the United Kingdom Independence Party between the years 2014 and 2016 in selected British media where it follows keywords used by these medias in the articles about the party and whether these themes can be identified as key topics in the context of media-generated frame and where, based on these frames, place these medias the party in the political spectrum of the United Kingdom. Despite the brief history of the United Kingdom Independence Party, the work contains chapters about right-wing populism and Euroscepticism. This is followed by an analysis of selected British media based on four keywords. The media, which have been used for the analysis were The Guardian, The Telegraph and BBC News. The chosen keywords were - Euroscepticism, immigration, criticism of the political system (antiestablishment) and organizational change within the party. It examines the 50 most relevant articles with these keywords from 2014-2016 and the tendency of thir usage. The result is an analysis of the frequency of these topics, showing the development, with the result, that they have been identified as the basic themes that all the three media use in the articles about the party. Framing Autism in Selected Czech Media and Related Discussions

The diploma thesis focuses on how the topic of autism is framed in articles published on two Czech internet servers - iDnes.cz and Blesk.cz. However, it also deals with discussions under the various articles, in order to find out what frameworks are in the reader's contributions, and whether there are issues that extend the discourse that speaks of autism. In the theoretical part of the thesis is presented not only the diagnosis of disorders of the autistic spectrum, but also the problems of media representation of otherness or representation of autism in the media. It also includes a more detailed description of the two research methods used, namely discourse analysis and framing. The research section first presents the eleven specific frameworks defined in the articles, devoted to their qualitative evaluation as well as quantitative representation on individual servers in 2016 and 2017. The second half of the empirical part is devoted to the analyzed discussions. In this case, ten major frameworks, as well as their representation on the servers mentioned above, are further elaborated. In the discussion and in the final part of the thesis, the results are compared with the foreign researches, detailed and outlined the possibilities of further research on the given topic.

The development of Dagmar Damkova's media image in 2003-2017

The main topic of this diploma thesis is the development of Mrs. Dagmar Damková media image between 2003-2017. Mrs. Damková is a former football referee and became the first woman who managed a football match in the Czech 1st Men's League in 2003. She has been professionally successful and popular with the public and the media in a purely male environment. She has become one of the world's best female referee and has been managing the prestigious games of the biggest foreign events. She ended her career as a referee in 2011 and began her new career path as a functionary. Besides this, she became a chairwomen of the Committee of the Referees of the Football Association of the Czech Republic. She was directly responsible for the actions of the referees, and was therefore often criticized by the media. Her relationship with the influential but controversial functionary Roman Berbr was also known to the public at that time, which has increased the interest of her person from the media. Mrs. Damková had withdrawn from the public after leaving the Refereeing Commission and the media did not refer to her so often. Framing the European Union in Czech TV News

This diploma thesis examines the nature of Czech TV news about the European Union. The EU is a typical example of a remote, abstract entity, which most of the public does not experience directly, and where the media becomes the primary source of information, as well as interpretation of European affairs. According to public opinion polls, TV news is the main source of information on the European Union for most Europeans. The goal of the thesis is to offer a comparison of the European news coverage of the three largest Czech TV stations, namely Česká televize, Nova and Prima. The quantitative content analysis examines the total volume of broadcasting about the European Union, its thematic structure, tone, present actors and institutions, the qualitative framing analysis reveals the frames present in the news. The results are then situated into the context of current knowledge in the field.
Framing of electronic evidence of revenues by selected Czech daily issued media

The diploma thesis "The Framing of the Topic of Electronic Sales Records by the Czech Daily Media" explores the quantitative content of the analysis in the way how media cover the subject of electronic sales records of the daily press Blesk, Mladá fronta, Právo, Hospodářské noviny and Lidové noviny. The theoretical part focuses on the influence of the media itself. On the basis of the theoretical knowledge, the levels of the agenda are described - firstly, the first stage of agenda setting, which defines the typology of the themes chosen by the media in their media agendas and actors whose definition for work is based on Hartley (1982) approach and Křeček (2013) division into collective and individual political actors. Another part deals with the second stage of the agenda setting, which in the case of diploma thesis includes framing. The first chapters describe the basic typology of division into generic and specific frameworks, focusing on thematic and episodic framing, which are subsequently used in the analytical part. Media Image of Angela Merkel: portrayal of chancellor in Czech press

The master thesis Media Image of Angela Merkel: portrayal of chancellor in Czech press examines the representation of Angela Merkel in two most widely read Czech national newspapers during her tenure as Chancellor of Germany from November 2005 to March 2018. The theses first familiarizes the reader with Angela Merkel in historical context and summarizes theoretical concepts and terms, which explain the relationship between media and politics. After that, the reader gets acquainted with the research questions and hypotheses, method of quantitative and qualitative content analysis, basic characteristics of the selected daily newspapers, data sample and three parts of the studied period. Then the selected media contents are analyzed: individual periods are first examined separately and then compared. After that, the chancellor's media image is also compared in both journals. The thesis explains how Angela Merkel was represented in the first, second and third term of office, how her media image changed during the course and how it differed in selected newspapers. The research also verifies the assumption that the media image of Angela Merkel has changed over time to the worse, especially during her last term in office.
Reflection of the Syrian Civil War in selected Czech Media

This thesis deals with the depiction of four important periods of the Syrian civil war in the selected Czech on-line media. Using the quantitative content analysis, it examines the news content in terms of topics and representation of conflict actors, as well as the representation of foreign media and news agencies a use of social networks. Goal of qualitative frame analysis is to examine coverage of the Syrian Arab Army siege of Zabadani and Madaya as well as the siege of Fuah and Kafraya by Syrian opposition forces. In addition to the frames used, the analysis found significant disparity in media coverage, despite a similar and interconnected fate of both besieged enclaves. Quantitative analysis revealed significant representation of western sources, predominance of the great power actors and rather negative image of the Syrian government as well as the Syrian opposition.
Framing of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict in Czech media

This diploma thesis is dedicated to framing of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict in the Czech daily press in the years of 2012 and 2014. It presents the concept of framing, its connection to the concepts of agenda-setting and priming, then the framing process, ways of identification of frames in texts and typology of frames. Then it offers an overview of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Attention is payed to the relations between the Czech, respectively Czechoslovak republic and Israel and Palestine. The second chapter is also dedicated to selected researches of framing of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. It describes six foreign researches and one from the Czech environment. Most attention is payed to their conclusions, especially to the sets of frames. Another important outcome of one of the described studies are ways of legitimization and delegitimization of conflict sides. These are together with the sets of frames used in a quantitative analysis focused on presence of the predefined frames in the dailies MF Dnes, Lidové noviny and Právo, and on the ways of legitimization and delegitimization of acts and positions of both the Israeli, as well as Palestinian side of the conflict.
