Triangulation, in this case the combination of quantitative content analysis and semiotic analysis, aims to analyse individual caricatures with the theme of the East and its individual countries. The analysed periods are divided into two sections, due to the availability of materials, namely 1945-1948 and 1968-1970.

Höschlová, Aneta ; Hájek, Roman (advisor) ; Reifová, Irena (referee)
This master's thesis is focused on reception analysis of Czech TV series "Život je ples". It is a family TV series produced by Česká televize. Its central topic are lives of clients of a retirement home, their families and employees of the facility, who are taking care of them. The analysis of reception is mainly devoted to how elderly, the social group which this TV show is about, perceived the series. The theoretical part introduces three approaches of audience research, the most emphasis is put on sociocultural research, which refused the power of text and admitted, that media texts are open to several possible interpretations in dependence on particular social context of every recipient and other conventions. From this approach arose reception research, which this thesis also introduces. Hovorka, Marek ; Quinn Novotná, Veronika (advisor) ; Gráf, Tomáš (referee)
The present thesis is concerned with the reflection of Global Englishes (GEs) and English as a Lingua Franca (ELF) in current teacher training manuals. The theoretical part introduces research into GEs and ELF with an emphasis on the pedagogical implications of the global role of English. The practical part consists in an analysis of four teachers training manuals of British provenance published between 2011 and 2014. Using a qualitative content analysis (see Schreier 2012), the author identifies in the selected publications textual material reflecting research into GEs and ELF. The identified textual material deals primarily with the teaching of language (e.g. pronunciation teaching) and culture (e.g. cultural relevance of materials), but attention is also paid to the current role of English in the world. On the basis of this material, the author then evaluates how the selected publications reflect research into GEs and ELF. The conclusion provides a summary of results, and suggestions for further research. Keywords: Global Englishes, English as a Lingua Franca, teacher training manuals, ELT, qualitative content analysis

Journalist as a user of social networking site Facebook: self-expression and professional ethics
Peterová, Barbora ; Švelch, Jaroslav (advisor) ; Jirků, Jan (referee)
The Facebook social network has become quite a phenomenon in recent years. Now journalists have profiles there, both on private and "fan" pages, i.e. pages started by someone else for promoting the person in question. In connection with this, we encounter a new ethical issue-the journalist's statements on this social network. Some media-or their editors-in- chief-have already reacted to this phenomenon by issuing a set of rules of behavior on social networks. Yet there were a few cases (not just on the Czech media scene) where a journalist's unethical statement on the Facebook social network was criticized. The aim of this thesis is to determine whether editorial staff of printed newspapers and television channels have rules for journalists' statements on the Facebook social network, whether editors-in-chief check if these rules are complied with and whether the journalists themselves try to comply with existing rules, or set down their own code as to the subject and manner of their expression on the social network. Another issue is, of course, how many of the journalists surveyed have their own profile on the Facebook social network, or how many of them had their profile pages started by their fans. In my thesis, I would also like to at least suggest an answer to the question to what extent is the...
