Mercury in stream sediments from a mining/smelting area: Sampling campaigns 10 years apart
Sýkorová, Kateřina ; Ettler, Vojtěch (advisor) ; Navrátil, Tomáš (referee)
This master thesis compares mercury concentrations in 64 samples of stream sediments from the Břehové Hory ore district (Příbram, Czech Republic), where lead and silver were mined and processed. Sampling took place in May 2003, September 2012 and October 2013 with intention to assess the influence of floods in August 2002 and June 2013 on changes of the level of mercury contamination in the stream sediments. In all three sampling campaigns, the background concentrations near the headwaters of the stream were about 0.2 mg Hg/kg, as a consequence of the weathering of geological units. Because of draining the historical mining and smelting region, the highest concentrations reach 3.2 mg Hg/kg downstream the Březové Hory ore district. The source of this contamination are probably former ore processing plants and the failures of tailing ponds. Extensive transport occurs especially during flood events and as the result, contamination can occur not only in the stream, but also in the alluvium materials. The main point source of the contamination in the area is the secondary Pb smelter, but its influence on the concentrations of mercury in stream sediment is insignificant. Nevertheless, it is a possible source of the contamination of the stream sediments with lead, cadmium and zinc. The concentrations up to...
Crime and its perception in urban environment
Jíchová, Jana ; Temelová, Jana (advisor) ; Šiftová, Jana (referee) ; Michálek, Anton (referee)
Jana Jíchová: Crime and its Perception in Urban Environment ABSTRACT Crime is an important social phenomenon that affects many aspects of the functioning of society and the life of every person. It also represents an important interdisciplinary topic that deals with a number of disciplines, including geography. Logically, there is a thematic and methodological overlap; each of the sciences emphasize on different aspects of crime, using various methods and research approaches, interpretations, and therefore contributes to the knowledge of crime differently. The importance of geography is particularly in the enrichment of the crime research on spatial dimension and contributes to its cognition through analysis of the distribution of crime and studies of perception of crime. Although this type of studies is well established in Western crime research, in the Czech geography is paid to them only little attention. This doctoral thesis introduces geography of crime in the Czech context, discusses its theoretical and methodological developments and its applicability and application in our cities.. More emphasis is put on the concept of fear of crime, which constitutes an essential component of feeling of safety affecting daily life, the use of urban space and spatial mobility of individuals. Better understanding of...

Proposed Topic: "Assessment of Multinational Federalism in Bosnia and Herzegovina" Registered in SIS: Yes Date of registration: 21.10.2011 Topic Characteristics: This research proposal will basically refer to functionality of federal values that lead to a federal political culture in the example of Bosnia and Herzegovina after the Dayton Peace Agreement signed in 1995 by focusing on the federal model that has been applied with Constitution, as a part of the said agreement. Hence, it will show to what extent the conflict that had led to the Bosnian War of 1992-1995 was resolved by implementing a federal model and constitution in 1995 and if so, what is the role of federalism in it. I have chosen the way of assessing multinational federalism in Bosnia and Herzegovina to evaluate federal system in post-war period in order to have a better perspective to observe the ability of federal state to enhance Bosnia as a unity. Today Bosnian Serbs, Bosnian Croats and Bosniaks constitute the main national identities, in Republika Srpska and in Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, two constituent entities of Bosnia and Herzegovina .Republika Srpska, as it could be understood from the name- Serb Republic, is led by an administration representing a Serbian majority whereas Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), known...

The communication of deaf through text messages
Růženská, Helena ; Macurová, Alena (advisor) ; Stará, Radka (referee)
The bachelor thesis is of a theoretical-analytical nature and deals with the communication of the deaf through text messages. The theoretical part sets out the notions of a language and communication, namely those of language communication, communicative functions and the factors influencing the style of communicative means. In the theoretical part, the main features of the communication through short text messages are defined with the focus on the language features typical for Czech language. The findings on the written Czech of the Czech deaf are summarised. The theoretical part, consequently, serves as a basis for the analytical part of the thesis that focuses on an analysis of the short text messages of the deaf that are either of a private, or official character. The collected text messages are examined from three main viewpoints: the functions they carry, the stylistics they apply and the extend, if any, to which they reflect characteristic features of text messages. The aim of the analytical part is to look for, and possibly, find tendencies in the written Czech of the deaf, i.e. in their short text messages. The end of the bachelor work is then devoted to the interpretation of the findings that gives rise to several issues for future possible discussion.

The final part of the thesis is dedicated to health in the context of subjectively perceived life satisfaction. The empirical part, based on qualitative research, consists of methods: documents analysis, work with timeline, family map, semi-structured interview, SEIQoL questionnaire. The sample consists of adolescents from alcoholic families, attending a therapeutic program, selected by CAST questionnaire. The obtained data are analyzed for occurrence of relational resilience within each respondent, composed into case studies. Results of the study show that all respondents reported incidence of all items of relational resilience. The first and most frequently mentioned person in relation to the items was female therapist of the program; the most common community is the therapeutic group. We did not find any gender differences in the items incidence....
Usage of alternative and augmentative systems of communication within logopedic intervention of individuals with combined disabilities
Saláková, Kateřina ; Klenková, Jiřina (referee)
The dissertation provides a detailed analysis of logopedic intervention. It focuses on systems of alternative and augmentative communication of individuals with special learning and educational needs (combined disability) in different age (19,12, 8 years). Theoretical part presents firstly general characteristics of communicational skills as a part of communication process and their possible violation with regards to respondent's combined disabilities and secondly researcher's own logopedic intervention. The work shows a shift within theoretical approaches from sound aspects of speech to its content. Combined disability is described from the perspective of frequent combination of celebral palsy and mental disorder. Symptomatology and diagnosis are also included. Last chapter profiles individual systems of alternative and augmentative communication as well as criteria used in the process of their choice. Own research focuses on detailed overview of logopedic intervention within each developmental stage of the respondents. Following evaluation of individual therapeutic approaches indicates conclusions of unsystematic and discoordinated logopedic intervention which was put into practise at the age of four years. Simultaneous support of all elements i.e. primary functions, speech and communication is...
