Working with children in a gallery: Developing an educative program for an independent gallery space of contemporary art

The study deals with the creation of gallery educational programs based on cooperation with artists and curators. The text is divided into two parts. In the theoretical part we try to define theoretical discursive field of art, galleries and gallery education. In the practical part we design gallery educational programs in cooperation with the artists and verify them with the children's group. Figures and Traces of Memory. Changes in Dynamics of Cultural Memory in Relation to Visual Culture

Thesis Abstract The thesis deals with the visual content of the media of official memory, in particular the visual material of history textbooks and the exhibition of the National Museum. It examines the formal and content features of the representation of four key events of modern Czechoslovak and Czech history which entered the awareness of the general public as "eight" events: the founding of Czechoslovakia (1918), the signing of the Munich Agreement (1938), the communist coup (1948) and the invasion of the Warsaw Pact armies (1968). Moreover, it relates the modes of representation of these events to the issue of the political transition of 1989. By means of mixed methods research, it examines a sample of textbooks published during the communist era (1967, 1973, 1982, 1983, 1983), the post-communist era (1995, 1996, 1999, 1999, 2000, 2009, 2011) and the exhibits from the permanent exhibition Crossroads of Czech and Czechoslovak Statehood (opened in 2009). In its findings, the thesis presents 34 visual memory figures related to the representation of the selected historical events. It points out the circulation of these images between the medium of the textbook and the historical exposition, thus following the dynamic concept of memory discussed in the theoretical part of the thesis. Visual Literacy in the Digital Era

Final thesis titled Visual Literacy in the Digital Era is primarily focused on understanding image in the context of contemporary digital era, which is characterized particularly by abundance of visual images. Using analysis of principles of New Media and Surface Aesthetics, which is based on visual communication strategies, it tries to define new demands on viewers' perceptional capabilities and emerging consequences for their cognitive functions. Farther there are applied findings of contemporary cognitive psychology and neurobiology on artistic movements of 20th and 21st century and general artistic tendencies. In dependence on the analysis and application of gained findings there is in conclusion reassessed Visual Literacy in its existing definition, which is not sufficient for new demands that has arisen and do not take account of current level of viewers' literacy.
Visualition of Great War in the Weekly Světozor

The bachelor thesis deals with the issue of imaging of Great War in czech weekly "Světozor". It will examine how much space during years 1914-1918 is given to war events, what sides of the war conflict are shown and with what frequency. The thesis also wants to cover whether there is any change in the manner of imaging during the course of the war. Last section of the thesis will be on the topic how could the reader perceive the Great War based on the photographs of this weekly.
Fashion blogs as a new trend in online journalism and their influence on readers

The main focus of the thesis is to describe the phenomenon of fashion blogs as a specific style of online writing and to analyse its influence on readers in relation to printed fashion magazines. The theoretic part describes an evolution of online media since the beginnings of Web, also in the context of generational change. It focuses on the Generation Y and its relation to online media. Furthermore, it describes internet media and internet journalism and their current tendencies. The next part defines blogs in general and contains a brief history of the phenomenon, their comparison with traditional journalistic values and finally on fashion blogs themselves. Fashion blogs are perceived as a part of modern visual culture, which is closely connected to the evolution of fashion blogs, and as a sign of societal trends of narcissism and individualism. The thesis compares the influence and the meaning of fashion blogs in comparison with printed fashion magazines. The analytical part uses a quantitative research and analyses the readers' view on both fashion blogs and the printed fashion magazines. Camera Obscura as an Unique Tool of Recording Reality. Possibilities of its Application in Contemporary Art Education

Marie Nováčková Bachelor thesis Charles University in Prague, Faculty of Education, Department of Art Education Camera obscura as an Unique Tool of Recording Reality. Possibilities of its Application in Contemporary Art Education. The thesis follows camera obscura as an unique medium for artistic work. Forms of camera obscura are described through the cultural and historical context, focusing on contemporary visual culture and pinhole photography. The pinhole camera is seen as a tool for artistic work, which can be subject to the author, can cooperate with him or can be artistically autonomus. These theoretical findings are reflected in the conception of an educational program connecting learning about the development of photographic images with the individual perception of their stories. A pinhole photography and the related story from the practical part is a comic strip created by using photographies made by pinhole camera, which storyline supported by a drawing. The comic strip is called The Ravens Player and its format is structured as Bach's composition Toccata a fuga in d-moll. (in English): This thesis wants to introduce the visual culture as an interesting method for religious studies to research religious aspects of images, their relation to the society and the ways of using them. The text summarizes previous discussion about visual culture and the relation between visual culture and art history. It also briefly introduces the relation between art and religion and describes the relation between art history and religious images. Then it presents chosen topics from visual culture, which are interesting for religious studies, in particular the theory of the gaze, importance of the context of images and the ways in which images can invoke a spontaneous response in the viewer.

It looks for a new approach to the structure of this medium, analyzes its structure from a narrative point of view and it further transfers this new knowledge to art education practice in a form of research project for high school students (in the first grade). In this part of the research, different students' approaches towards reading and creating visual narratives were identified, in particular the use of fragments of visual culture. This dissertation is thus a contribution to a view on visual culture as an important part of teaching the art education.
