Maternity and childlessness in women's magazines

This thesis tries to found out whether the suspected dysphasia influences sign language acquisition of an intelligent adolescent non-speaking boy who suffers from developmental anarthria. Nevertheless, he can understand spoken language 100 % but he is not able to learn written language functionally. It deals with the differentiation of the diagnoses of developmental dysphasia and developmental anarthria with suspected dysphasia. The work focuses on particular forms of alternative and augmentative communication and advantages and disadvantages of their use by the boy who suffers from developmental anarthria. This thesis points out that therapy is comfortable because it adequately offers Czech Sign Language as a mode of communication for the education and everyday communication for the boy who has suffered from developmental anarthria since he was 13 to now at age 19. He has partial motor disfunction in his hands but the fine motor skills of his right hand are only partially disabled and therefore his communication in Czech Sign Language is interpretable. Czech Sign Language is his L2 but this is the only language production of the boy. In the core of the thesis there are three types of video-recordings of the expressions in Czech Sign Language of the 18-year-old boy who suffers from the developmental...

From genetic memory to electronic circuit: displaying body and corporeality in film form of screen dance
Španihelová, Magda ; Přádná, Stanislava (referee) ; Hanáková, Petra (advisor)
This thesis explores the various forms of the body and corporeality represented in the lesserknown film form called screen dance. This work focuses on the dancing body, which is transformed through performance. Two art forms are discussed in relation to each other - dance and film, and their mutual influence and connection. Focus is placed on the cultural context of the West. The thesis does not follow the chronological development of different dance styles; rather, it is divided into four categories of corporeality (the laboring, marked, repressed and disappearing body), which help to classify the different creative approaches to recording the body in motion and its various representations in film. The examined film material dates from the mid-1940's to the present. This work analyzes the various ways in which dancing bodies are portrayed in film, the new types of corporeality emerging in screen dance, and the symbolic and ideological values contained in film portrayals of dancing bodies.

Melniková, Olga ; Morávková, Alena (referee) ; Chlaňová, Tereza (advisor)
In my thesis I focused on the analysis of unusual literary characters in conjunction with the linguo-stylistic analysis of selected stories written by Ukrainian authors in 1920s. At the same time I tried to create the typology of these characters, not only on the basis of the interpretation of individual works, but also taking into account the lives of the authors, and historical and social contexts of the period. Firstly, I concretize examined literature (primary and secondary) and the theoretical literature concerning the theme of the literary character in general. In the second chapter I summarize existing classifications of major literary characters and also the different ways of understanding the literary character in the context of other components of the literary work. In the third chapter, I mention the most important historical and social events of the 1920s, which influenced the changes in the shaping of literary characters. The fourth chapter presents the core of my work. It is based on the detailed analysis of the selected stories. I single out the following types of unusual characters: a scholar and an intellectual; a fool, a madman, an insane; mentally ill, pathological, harrowed character; physically deformed character; fantastic figures, characters with supernatural powers, animal. Vilhelmová, Zuzana ; Hák, Tomáš (advisor) ; Třebický, Viktor (referee)
Sustainable development research makes use of various indicators for environmental monitoring without really focusing on quality and comparability of these indicators. This paper tries to lay down method of assessment of one of these indicators - the relevance. My method will be used for evaluating the indicators of ECI set - European Common Indicators, ten indicators of the Sustainable Urban Development, established by European Commission in cooperation with European cities. My method of evaluating the indicators is based on searching the keywords. One set of the keywords was specified for each indicator of ECI set and several sets of the keywords were specified for every indicator's theme. I collected data to establish three types of relevance - public, scientific and political relevance. Data for the public relevance were searched on World Wide Web by search engine Google, data for the scientific relevance were searched in the Google Scholar database and data for Political Relevance were searched in several official documents related to sustainable development. Public and scientific relevance were determined as a proportion of number of present keywords for the indicators and for their topics together and number of present keywords for the topics alone. Political relevance was determined as a...

Graduation thesis entitled "Confrontation of work of photo editors in selected Czech and American periodicals" discusses the important profession of photo editors in the Czech Republic and the United States and attempts to compare it in these two different countries. In the first part I would like to briefly outline the history of photojournalism in the Czech Republic and the United States and describe the aspects which influenced it during two centuries. In the next chapter I focus on notions, since not everyone is familiar with the position and powers of newspaper photo editors, and the types of photographs the journalism operates with. Here I explain the emergence of the profession which is much younger than actual photojournalism. In the research section I want to - through the use of interviews with several professional photographers and photo editors - explain the various procedures and newsroom routines. I focus mainly on the habits and processes, that go before the capturing the photograph, and subsequent decision-making process in selecting images for the newspapers.
