Bakalářská práce "Srovnání práce obrazových editorů ve vybraných českých a amerických periodikách" pojednává o důležité profesi fotoeditora v České republice a Spojených státech a snaží se ji v jednotlivých zemích porovnat. V úvodní části bych chtěla stručně nastínit historii žurnalistické fotografie v ČR a USA a popsat aspekty, které ji v průběhu dvou století ovlivňovaly. V další kapitole se soustředím na vymezení pojmů, protože ne každý je obeznámen s pozicí a pravomocemi fotoeditora v novinách, a také typy fotografií, se kterými žurnalistika pracuje. Vysvětluji zde vznik tohoto povolání, které je mnohem mladší, než samotná fotografie. Ve výzkumné části pomocí hloubkových rozhovorů s několika profesionálními obrazovými fotoeditory a fotografy chci vysvětlit jednotlivé postupy a rutinu redakční fotografické a fotoeditorské práce. Zaměřuji se především na zvyky a procesy, které předcházejí vzniku zpravodajské či reportážní fotografie, a následné rozhodovací procesy při výběru obrázků na stránky novin. Krátce také porovnávám problematiku vzdělání a vzdělávání v oboru vizuální žurnalistika. V jedné z kapitol se věnuji tématu popisků u novinových fotografií a na názorných příkladech se snažím zodpovědět otázku, jak se liší či si jsou podobné styly psaní těchto krátkých textů doprovázejících fotografie. Graduation thesis entitled "Confrontation of work of photo editors in selected Czech and American periodicals" discusses the important profession of photo editors in the Czech Republic and the United States and attempts to compare it in these two different countries. In the first part I would like to briefly outline the history of photojournalism in the Czech Republic and the United States and describe the aspects which influenced it during two centuries. In the next chapter I focus on notions, since not everyone is familiar with the position and powers of newspaper photo editors, and the types of photographs the journalism operates with. Here I explain the emergence of the profession which is much younger than actual photojournalism. In the research section I want to - through the use of interviews with several professional photographers and photo editors - explain the various procedures and newsroom routines. I focus mainly on the habits and processes, that go before the capturing the photograph, and subsequent decision-making process in selecting images for the newspapers. I also briefly compare the problems of education and training in the field of visual journalism.
