Comparison of measured instantaneous velocities and a calculated flow in an agitated vessel

The women writers of Tornio valley
Slobodová, Petra ; Velkoborsky, Jan Petr (referee) ; Lindroosová, Hilkka (advisor)
This Master thesis is focused on the womenwriters of Tornio Valley in Finland (Tornionlaakso in Finnish) and their works. The beginning of thesis is to represent main points and aspects of history and culture of this area. Also the period of the Finnish War was mentioned. As one of results of this war, the eastern provinces of Sweden were established as the autonomous Grand Duchy of Finland within Imperial Russia in 1809. The new Swedish-Russian borderline appeared to be in Tornio Valley dividing these lands to the Finnish and Swedish parts: Tornio Valley and Swedish Tornedalen. But regarding the language and culture these two parts mostly are taken as one province, though the main goal of this work is to represent condition of culture and literature there as well. Local language is also a point of interest. Despite the fact of separation, on both banks of the Tornio River the local dialect of Finnish language - so-called "Tornio Valley Finnish", also known as meänkieli (lit. our language) - was kept. In Sweden it is assumed to be a separated language, whereas for Finns it's a dialect. Also a church movement - pietism - is mentioned in this work, as a significant phenomena of local and all-Finnish spiritual culture, described by Tornio Valley authors.

Subhash Chandra Bose and Indian national movement (1920-1945)
Beránek, Petr ; Skřivan, Aleš (referee) ; Kovář, Martin (referee)
ln the time between the two world wars, divergencies of opinion were deepened among Gandhi's fraction and leftists led by Jawaharlal Nehru and Subhas Chandra Bose in Indian National Congerss (INC). Bose, coming from the Bengal elite, resigned the post of Indian Civil Service and joined the brench of Bengal Congress. After the suspension of civil disobedience, he followed his political teacher, C. R. Das, and acceded to the Swaraj Party, where he was until his imprisonment in Burma in 1924. Though Bose came back from the internation after three years of being seriuos ill; immediately he started to work for a socialist group of INC. He enforced with Nehru the idea of Puma Swaraj, i. e. full independence. Gandhi weakened leftists on Lahore congress in 1929, where he gained Nehru on his side. In the end of the 1920s, Bose became a leader of Bengal Congress. The provincial organisation, however, was deeply divided; the split was overcame after death of main rival Sengupta. The Government of Calcutta suspected Subhas had a connection with extreme left radicals; therefore, it imprisoned him in 1933 and forced him to emigrate to Europe. Bose used his stay in Europe for getting support of intelectual and political elites for Indian independence. ln 1936 he came back to India, where he was jailed again. Gandhi was...

Athanasius Kircher (1602-1680) and his Influence on the Natural Philosophy in the Czech Lands
Lelková, Iva ; Horský, Jan (advisor) ; Hermann, Tomáš (referee) ; Janko, Jan (referee)
Resumé: The dissertation deals with various layers of influence that Athanasius Kircher and his work had on the development of natural philosophy in the Czech lands around the half of the seventeenth century. It is possible to observe one such layer of this influence in his correspondence with the Czech lands, which often had patronage seeking character but was also a source of natural philosophic knowledge, observations and interests. Besides the correspondence influence, a diachronic influence and changing evaluation of Athnasius Kircher's work in the course of time is explored in one chapter. Another chapter introduces his own autobiography, which provides evidence of Kircher's conscious effort to shape the opinion of his person and his work to be made by his contemporaries and next generation of scholars. The last layer of influence being in focus of this work regards the influence of ideas based on an analogy between the movement of sea waters and movement of fluids in human body. Kircher's ideas on geocosmos expressed in his Mundus subterraneus (1664-1665) and Iter extaticum II (1657) are compared with the work of his correspondent, physician from Wroclaw and editor of the first medicine journal, Philipp Jacob Sachs von Löwenheim's Oceanus macro-microcosmicus (1664). Sachs reflects William Harvey's...

Hankovec, Václav ; Kaleta, Petr (advisor) ; Bartoň, Josef (referee)
The Church and Cultural Life in Sorbian Lusatia after 1945 (with the View to the Czech-Sorbian Relations) Summary The aim of this article is to take a closer look at the post-war development of Czech-Sorbian relations. Emphasis is placed upon the attitudes of the former GDR toward the Sorbian minority and above all toward the Sorbian National Movement immediately following the Second World War, which is tied to the attempts to make Lusatia a part of the Czechoslovak state. Particular attention is devoted to the Sorbs' relationship to the church and school and the resulting activities of the Friends of Lusatia Society (FLS) and to the Lusatian Seminary in Czechoslovakia, later the Lusatian House in Prague. One breakthrough in this endeavor was, for example, the acquisition of new information on the relationship of Domowina to the FLS. Between the 1940s and 1950s, it is surprising that Domowina did not advocate a positive attitude toward FLS. This fact has not yet been documented in any of the literature on the Sorbs. The addition of new information from archival materials and specialized literature on the topic in question was also important. An entire series of studies has been devoted to the Sorbian question, both on the Czech and the German side, but it is necessary to complete several more archival...
