Moudrá, Veronika ; Binková, Simona (referee) ; Křížová, Markéta (advisor)
Subject of Frida Kahlo, Mexican and popular art is theme of my master's thesis "Inspiration in the art work of Frida Kahlo" for The Institute of The Ibero - American Studies at The Charles University in Prague. I dissert on researching whether pre- Columbian symbols, popular art, religious or everyday motives are present in the artwork of Frida Kahlo. This analyse is completed with pictorial analyse. This thesis is focused on social studies especially on Mexican art and traditions. My thesis reveal in broad picture of nationalistic tendencies in context of Mexican revolution at the beginning of the 20th century. My thesis is not focused only to the life of Frida Kahlo, analysis of her artwork but I've tried to write a complete vision of the woman whose work has been a part of a wider art stream - specific conditions that had accompanied social changes in early 20th century. The author I mentioned is not just a follower. The author broke existing limits with her very personal conception.

General principles of dreams imagery in visual culture
Šmejkalová, Adriana ; Konečný, Lubomír (advisor) ; Hlaváčková, Jana Hana (referee)
This thesis is based on the assumption that a dream is "thinking in pictures" and as such can result in unchained and free artwork. Nevertheless, we conclude that authentic dreams in the form of pictures and text were not found before Albrecht Dürer's work. On the other hand, artistic concepts of dreams generally used the symbolic language of timeless oral tradition over the centuries, supported by Greek myths and stories of rich Hebrew oral tradition. This work emphasises the lack of preserved monuments and the process during the time that Greek culture was adopted by the Romans. It mentions works of art inspired by dream formation, quotes Greek and Roman philosophers' beliefs on dreams and clarifies the formation of the allegoric method of interpretation that affected the medieval approach to dreams. It presents Early Church Fathers' concerns in relation to dreams through which the human mind can be controlled by both God and Satan. The chapter on medieval narrative picture cycles explores in greater detail established picture schemes where in addition to biblical dreams, papal and royal dreams are also presented. From the 12th and 13th centuries, works of art associated with dreams and new Franciscan, Carmelite and Benedictine orders were created. The Renaissance period opens with a reminder of lasting...

The Master Thesis is divided into 9 chapters and respective subchapters (or other parts); each chapter deals with various aspects of transportation types, both general and specific. The second chapter describes in general the resources of legal regulations for international transport and definitions used in this field. The third chapter describes specific principles of legal regulations of relationships arising during both domestic and international transport. In addition to the description of possible ways of legislative regulation of these...

Manipulation of children in the prose of Aldous Huxley and George Orwell
Linhart, Marek ; Clark, Colin Steele (referee) ; Wallace, Clare (advisor)
The focus of this thesis are two of the most prominent specimen of utopian literature, namely George Orwell's Nineteen Eighty-Four and Aldous Huxley's Brave New World. Despite the fact that Brave New World, which was published in 1932, predates Nineteen Eighty-Four by seventeen years and was written in a quite different social and political climate, both these books share many important elements. While depicting vastly different societies with diverse structures of power distribution, they both express certain fears and worries that their respective authors had about the future of civilisation, which is why they were chosen as primary texts for this thesis. More specifically, the main area of discourse is going to be the treatment of children and their relation to the state as depicted in these books. In this field, both Orwell's Oceania and Huxley's World State share the same objective, which is to turn children and the young generation in general into an obedient tool to be at the system's disposal. This aim is very prominent for many reasons in both books, but the results are the same; children willingly submit themselves fully to the state and become one of the major means the state possesses to achieve its goals. The degree of control over children both in Brave New World and Nineteen Eighty- Four is...

The literary work of Josef Kostohryz through the changes of time
Kvasnovský, Vojtěch ; Med, Jaroslav (advisor) ; Eliáš, Vojtěch (referee)
The master thesis titled "The literary work of Josef Kostohryz through the changes of time" focuses on the life and work of the Czech poet Josef Kostohryz. His life was marked by the 20th century in which he was living, particularly by the atrocities of World War II and the long period of communism. The main motives reflected in his works is the period of communistic persecution, his 13 years long imprisonement and the numerous efforts made by the communistic regime to silence this brave autor. Not only did these painful life experiences affect his life but they also had a serious impact on his work which includes a broad range of different genres such as poetry, prose, various translations and even the writing of a textbook. In this paper I have tried to organize in a surveyable manner his literary works by the periods of time in which they originated while taking into account his own life situation at the time of writing. An indispensable part of my paper is also the evaluation of his life story since without the proper knowledge of the author as a person, of his family and his life experiences it would be virtually impossible to understand the message he is aiming to convey through his literal activity. Thus I have tried to interweave both his life and the analysis of his works into one...

Centones Christiani. Intertextual transformations of one form of the Latin Christian poetry of late antiquity
Nečetné kritiky (Tertullianus, Hieronymus, Decretum Gelasianum) vycházejí z ortodoxních křesťanských pozic a kritizují spíše nevhodnost spojení biblického obsahu s "pohanskou'' slovní formou než princip centonu jako takový. V dalším období, které začíná v druhé polovině 18. století, vychází převažující záporné hodnocení centonové poezie ze změny v pojetí umělecké tvorby, pro niž podle dobových...

Theoretical problems of Spanish lexicography
Johnová, Barbara ; Čermák, Petr (advisor) ; Zavadil, Bohumil (referee)
The master's thesis Theoretical Problems of Spanish Lexicography introduces issues associated with creating general monolingual dictionaries. The thesis has two main objectives. Firstly, it aims to summarise the most frequent lexicographic issues and attempt to find their suitable solutions in practice through an analysis of significant research studies dealing with this subject. The issues have been divided into two groups depending on whether they regard the macrostructure (collection of dictionary entries) or microstructure (collection of headword information). As for the macrostructure, one of the main issues is posed by determining the criteria for the selection of dictionary entries. Modern descriptive lexicography considers lexical unit usage frequency to be the main criterion. The macrostructure of general monolingual dictionaries should generally not include proper nouns while productive affixes and affixoids, phraseological units with a high degree of idiomaticity, abbreviations and frequently used neologisms should be included. The thesis also explores the issue of distinguishing between cases of homonymy and polysemy and its impact on lexicographic practice. The chapter on microstructure focuses primarily on the issues of constructing lexicographic definitions with user...
