KOLOUCHOVÁ, Jana
The presented thesis deals with the phenomenon of death in the second half of the 19th century using the area around the Cheb town as an example. The source base is made up by information from Christian registers of deaths, prescriptive regulations and tangible evidences. As a main methodological basis the Historical Demography was chosen, but the other approaches were used as a Historical Anthropology and Art History. The most important emphasis was oriented on getting results from statistical research. The index of death issues was researched from several circumstances. Not only the data on approximate life expectancy, infant mortality and seasonal movement was reached, but also the analysis of the causes of death was made with the respect of its German terms. The attention was oriented on infectious diseases, with which the society of the second half of 19th century was afflicted too. The question of spread of epidemics is given into the wider context in the subsequent chapter, which is devoted to influence to prevent the gradual lengthening of life expectancy. The attention was devoted to the analysis of preserved tombstones from the 2nd half of 19th century on the base of fieldwork. The artifacts were assessed from the point of view of artistic representation. The epitaphs were recorded as well for the identification of specific persons. The conclusion of this topic was the thought of vandalism of modern time and the importance of preservation of the testimonial of funeral culture as a proof of high art. The main aim of presented thesis is not only to find out what were the mortality situations of the monitored period, but also the changes of funeral rite influenced by emancipation of bourgeois society. The connection with early modern period tradition of colossal noble funeral ceremony was pointed out. The shift of attention from the deceased to the bereaved was substantiated on the analysis of the preserved tombstones from the second half of 19th century and from the parsing of the funeral announcements in the regional press. The complexity was amplified by the study of lives of the two generations of sculptors from Cheb, who influenced unchangeably the appearance of the local cemetery. Thanks to the language analysis of the term ?the Death? presented on the pages of Glossaries from that time and by the excursion into the folk?s habits connected with the end of life journey of rural population, the issues of Death and funeral ritual were studied from multiple perspectives. For obtaining the complete view, there was necessary to work not only with results of statistics, but also to consider the interdisciplinary approach.

Changes in perception of work
Svatoň, Ondřej ; Petrusek, Miloslav (advisor) ; Mareš, Petr (referee) ; zatím nezjištěn, nerealizuje se (referee)
The concept of work became one of the central ideas in theories focused on the explanation of social processes. It is included in theories of Durkheim, Weber and Marx. Social theories based on the European Christian tradition deal with this substantial problem, too. The nowadays prevailing way of understanding the role of work in society is based mainly on the economic attitude to the social world and we can see this ideological stereotype when reflecting negative impacts of work on the everyday life and on forming human personality. Examples of these attitudes can be found in the contemporary sociological thought. New technologies affect the social perception of both paid work and the "society of work". The diminishing share of routine paid work on the total production of goods and even on offered services can not be explained only in terms of economic theories that assume the rationality of production and consumption. The traditional meritocratic principles are set to question. Changes in the perception of work also affect the perception of wealth that differs in post-modern society and in agricultural or industrial societies. The study aims at proposing new way of explaining social processes by putting stress on connections between labour market, resp. division of labour and distribution of power in...

Ježková, Tereza ; Štětovská, Iva (referee) ; Šípek, Jiří (advisor)
In this study we wanted to explore, if there exists a relationship between spiritual orientation of people and their attitude to death. In the theoretical part, there were this two subjects (spirituality and death) described, explained and related to other important issues (for example: fear of death, the spiritual clime in the modern society, spiritual growth and motivation for the spiritual way of life, spiritual care of dying people etc.). This part discusses three representative kinds of spirituality too - the Christian reigion, the Buddhist spirituality and the "faith of atheists" - especially in their relation to death. In the empirical part we used a modified version of The Test of Colour Semantic Differential to verify that there exists greater integrity between conscious and unconscious dimension of attitude to death among the people with clear-cut spiritual orientation. Howewer, the results of the research haven't made it possible to falsificate the zero hypothesis.

Příhoda, Marek ; Svatoň, Vladimír (advisor) ; Lášek, Jan Blahoslav (referee) ; Veber, Václav (referee)
Monk Veniamin (2nd half of the 15th century), Ivan Peresvětov (1st half of the 16 th century) and Juraj Križanić (1617/1618-1683) are remarkable thinkers of the late Middle Ages and the early Modern Period. There are several interesting features common to all three of them which make the research of their works in a single monograph well-founded and inspiring. Each of the authors came to the territory of the Moscovian state from a different cultural and linguistic milieu. In each case the moment of their arrival and their stay in the country could be classified as a landmark in the historical and spiritual development of Eastern Europe, accompanied by a revaluation and relativization of the preceding tradition. Monk Veniamin arrived in Novgorod during the final phase of the process of "the collecting of Russian lands" when a fundamental question for the Moscovian society opened - the issue of the Church possession and its potential secularization. Ivan Peresvětov came to Russia at the beginning of the reign of Ivan IV. Vasiljevič in a period of prospective changes; Juraj Križanić on the eve of the reforms initiated by Petr I. Alexejevič. At the point of their arrivals to Russia Veniamin, Peresvětov and Križanić were all well-experienced men with a great intellectual outfit originating beyond the spiritual...
