History of the city Jílové near Děčín after 1945: Transfer and Settlement in the Narratives of Its Inhabitants

This thesis considers a difficult period of the post-war period of history in Jílové near Děčín. The main chapters of this work deal with the themes of transfer of Germans from the city and with the following event of settlement of new inhabitants. The aim of this thesis is to reflect the period of the national migration in Jílové. Last but not least this work aims to reveal micro-historical view on a process of key events in a small city considering individual life stories. Submitted thesis is based on available archive materials and literature. At the same time there was applied a method of oral history. In the following chapters there are introduced 6 life stories of inhabitants of Jílové who helped with their narrations to describe the key themes of this research as well as "small history" of everyday life in the post-war era. Transfer/Expulsion of Sudeten Germans in the Public Press and in the Czech Literature after WWII

The thesis analyzes the reflection of the transfer/expulsion of Germans in post-war Czechoslovak press in the years 1945-1948. It focuses on the first critical reactions that were published in selected journals. Last but not least, it analyzes problems related to transfer (expulsion) of the Germans from Czechoslovakiathe during Second World War. First of all the thesis focuses on weekly Obzory and Vývoj the managing editor Pavel Tigrid under the auspices of the Czechoslovak People's Party. It also analyses text in independent weekly Dnešek, that is connected with Ferdinand Peroutka, and critical comments of Přemysl Pitter and Michal Mareš, that were influential in the post-war period. Overall, the thesis analyses the reflection of the transfer through these personalities and their articles in selected Third Republic's journals. The Potsdam Agreement in the Reunited Germany

The thesis deals with the document that determined the form of Central Europe after the Second World War. The thesis is divided into two main parts. The first one is about the legal nature of the Potsdam Agreement, particularly if it can be considered as a valid international treaty, effectual for Germany. It is also given important legal events that in the Federal Republic in connection with the unification and agreement took place. The second part deals with the influence of the document on the relations between Germany and Czechoslovakia, later only the Czech Republic. Regarding Czechoslovakia the most important article is the article XIII, where it was decided to transfer German inhabitants orderly. Germans from Czechoslovakia established a Sudeten German expatriate association in Germany which just in time after the unification of Czechoslovakia began to develop an activity that was an essential element in the formation of official relations. There are different legal opinions, political documents and international treaties which the above mentioned states had concluded.
Village Hradčany in Podještědí at Contemporaly History 1914 - 1948

This work focuses on exploring the village Hradčany in Podještědí in historical period 1914-1957. The main theme of the work is the specific situation of Hradčany, the village on the ethnic, and later also state border of Sudeten and Protectorate during the Second World War, as well as the building of socialism and the ending of the traditional rural economy in the fifties. The whole work is based primarily on oral-history research, interviews with the oldest settlers, collection of photographic sources and written documents as memories and administrative documents.

The thesis deals with the document that determined the form of Central Europe after the Second World War. The thesis is divided into two main parts. The first one is about the legal nature of the Potsdam Agreement, particularly if it can be considered as a valid international treaty, effectual for Germany. The core of the second part lies in the effect of this document on forming relations among Germany and Poland and Czechoslovakia, later only the Czech Republic. As far as Poland is concerned (the crucial was particularly the change of boundaries and their anchoring in the Oder-Neisse line. Czechs and Germans in the Polička's Region in the 20th Century: Regional Probe Into Czech-German Coexistence in the Ethnically Mixed District of Polička

Using a method of regional probing, the thesis seeks to map the evolution of relations between the Czech majority and the German minority that resided in the former political district of Policka. The analysis concentrates on the period of 1897-1946, with a concentration focusing on the culture of remembering and the ways in which both ethnic groups came to divergent interpretations of their mutually-shared history. The author strives to identify the factors that influneced the actions and positions of the local populace during the key political events of 1918, 1938 and 1945. He concentrates not only on the everday interactions between both ethnic groups, but also on the conditions that both groups found themelves in during the so-called national confrontation.
Budinka Case - Content Analysis of the Representation of the Expulsion of the Germans in Media

This work is dealing with the media reflection of deportation of Germans after the Second World War. It is a case study which analyzes newspaper articles following up a discovery of a mass grave near the village of Dobronín. The approach of frequency analysis was used for processing of huge amount of sources in Czech; the smaller sample of articles written in German was dealt with qualitative method. The target of the work is to answer how media reflect the deportation and whether they have tendency of arguments towards "defenders" or "critics". The work takes this classification over from an article by Michal Kopeček and Miroslav Kunštát. On the basis of the frequency analysis results the thesis concludes that victims have been predominantly identified as Germans; their identity is, in a negative sense, connected with the membership in Nazi organisations; however in positive view they are seen as village community members. But the reflection depends on the particular journal. The journals further to the critical approach use often the interconnection of the murderers' identity with the Communist party. The comparison of standards of living of village and city inhabitants in the region of Liberec between 1945 and 1989

This bachelor thesis describes the development of differences in standards of living between years 1945 to 1989 in North Bohemian border region and in city of Liberec and Hejnice. It captures social, economic and political change of the border region after the transfer of the German population, through the start of the communist regime, the invasion of the Soviet army with its allies and normalisation to the Velvet revolution. Based on the comparative method, both cities are first analysed from the perspective of chosen standards of living and then compared. According to gathered information for this thesis, it claims that the standards of living were slightly higher in Liberec than for the inhabitants of Hejnice. The chosen differences were however not that significant.
Impact of transfer of Germans and resettlement of Jablonec nad Nisou after World War II.

The second world war is no doubt one of the most important milestone to the whole history of human being. In the border area of Czechoslovakia was this milestone moreover followed by expulsion of German population and resettlement by Czech inhabitants. This thesis deals with the immediate aftermath of forced displacement of Sudeten Germans after 1945 and resettlement of the border areas of Czechoslovakia. It focuses specifically on area of Jablonec nad Nisou where the entire structure of the population has changed significantly during a short period. Specific events are complemented by testimonies of eyewitnesses. The postwar development of Jablonec nad Nisou district differs from other towns resettled in the border region especially due to prevailing glass and jewelery industry with its specific characteristics. Therefore, the part of the thesis is devoted to analysis of industrial conditions of this area and development of leading local companies.
