Fertility changes in the context of gender revolution with focus on the man's role in the family in the Czech Republic
Koudelka, Pavel
Title: Fertility changes in the context of gender revolution with focus on the man's role in the family in the Czech republic Author: Mgr. Pavel Koudelka Department: Department of Demography and Geodemography Statistics Supervisor: Prof. RNDr. Jitka Rychtaříková, CSc. Abstract: Profound changes are occurring in the relations between men and women in European families and societies, a transformation that is referred to as the 'gender revolution'. Considering the unprecedented drop in fertility, some important questions may be asked: in a more egalitarian society/family, could we expect a rise in the birth rate? Does men's participation in housework and child- care have an impact on the number of children born (in a family)? Czech society is slowly adapting to gender equality, but this is more apparent in the general mood and opinions than in the reality of households and families. We drew on two waves of a panel study Generations & Gender Survey (GGS) performed in the Czech republic and compared the information about the real involvement of men in households in which (a number of) children were born in between the waves. This is an advantage of GGS over similar studies: we have information about real- ity, real facts, and not only values and attitudes to gender equality or the number of children a...

Wage inequality among young college graduates: Can we find any evidence for reverse gender wage differential?
Vrbovský, Samuel ; Mysíková, Martina (advisor) ; Šlegerová, Lenka (referee)
This thesis examines whether in the United States among young college gradu- ates in male-dominated dominated job fields the the gender wage differential is reversed, i.e, women earn more than similar men. The thesis further adds two additional hypotheses that narrow the examination down to large employers and singles. To evaluate those hypotheses the thesis estimates linear regression models for each of the male-dominated job field and each hypothesis using data from 2017 National Survey of College Graduates (NSCG). Although the results revealed that in IT and mathematics and in physical sciences women earned more than similar men, with the effects being more pro- found among those working for large employers and among singles, the results were not statistically significant. Those results are, however, still important in context of societal narrative and gender wage gap literature, since they do not hint any potential discrimination of women in male-dominated fields. This thesis deals with research of men, who have experience with abortion of their girlfriends. My research attention was focused on men, who experienced abortion on their own. In Czech Republic almost no researches about men and abortion have been conducted and that is the reason why I started with this research. My research consists of a semi- structured interviews with five men. By analytical process of coding I created eight categories. We expect from men that they will be support for their girlfriends and they also want to act like that and be supportive. Men want take care of their partner. Men's role is to be support in this situation. They are aware of that this problem is mainly about women and that abortion is happening on woman body. But men want to be part of this situation. If they are not, they feel useless. After abortion they usually feel relief or sometimes guilt. But their emotions are varied. Abortion is also important incident for relationship between man and woman. Both usually think about future of the relationship.
Drug Users from the Gender Perspective
JUŘICOVÁ, Michaela
This thesis presents the problems of drug users in the context of differences between men and women. In the theoretical part, there are described the basic concepts related to use of drugs. Also there are described some gender issues. In the next chapter, there we find the specific differences between drug users from a gender point of view. The chapter: Social work with drug users mentions the significant difference in terms of social work between men and women drug users. The practical part of this bachelor thesis was worked out through a qualitative research method semi-structured interviews. The research group was given together of four partners for communication. The group includes two women and two men. The aim of this bachelor thesis was to investigate what are the subjectively perceived causes of early drug use in the target population and how this population experience the use of drugs, emphasizing the eventual differences in terms of gender. To meet the goal stated, two research questions were developed. The first research question is where, from the users viewpoints, was the beginning of them, using drugs. The second research question is asking, whether some gender differences occur between users of drugs. The research results indicate that there are some gender differences, regarding the use of drugs. Both women stated, that they were influenced by their partners when they were young. However, for the question whether they feel any difference in causes of drug use between men and women, both replied that they do not. On the other hand, men are more sensible in this terms, because both of them replied that they noticed the fact of women being more influenced by their partners. The second question presents that women agreed that have they lost their friends who do not use drugs. Because of their friends did not know of them using drugs, and both women did not want to disappoint them, they rather stopped socializing with them. Relationships of both men were not influenced by them using drugs. The interviewed women do not suffer from health problems due to drug use if compared with men. Both men have already experienced any health problems. This thought is also supported by men who stated that they do not worry about their health, or illnesses caused by drug use. Women, on the other hand do care about their health. The women asked were also using drugs in similar areas, during their childhood. Men were stealing their relatives cigarettes, during their childhood.
