Hlaváčová, Lucie ; Teodoridis, Vasilis (advisor) ; Králík, Miroslav (referee) ; Švecová, Milada (referee)

Therefore, evolution is a crucial topic from the perspective of didactics of biology because it reaches contemporary paradigm of science education. Representation of Scotland on screen: Symbols of Scottish identity in the cinematography of the 21st century
Matejová, Adéla ; Clark, Colin Steele (advisor) ; Beran, Zdeněk (referee)
The aim of my bachelor thesis is to analyse what is the portrayal of Scottish identity and culture in the contemporary film production. The thesis is concerned with the employment of recurring motifs and thematic links in Scottish film from the year 2000 until 2016 and will analyse how film-makers render Scottish culture in their productions and the relative effects this has on contemporary culture. Existing research into the representation of Scottish culture on screen analyses mainly historic trends of remythologizing the Scottish past1 and using traditional stereotyping symbols still present in modern cinematography. Many authors, however, point to the establishment of new Scottish representation by leaving those symbols behind and focusing on contemporary Scotland with its political debates and social relationships. This thesis contends that contemporary directors are no longer retrospective and are concerned primarily with the contemporary political and social dispensation of modern Scotland. The historical lexicon of Scottish film history is still present but no longer central and has been problematised by its now typically ironic employment. The new grammar of Scottish film is predicated on a new referential mode which is connected with independence (both the formal concept and the...

Rexa, Martin ; Koubek, Jiří (advisor) ; Buben, Radek (referee)
The aim of this thesis is to understand to the success of the Scottish National Party in the last British parliamentary election in the year 2015. This success is the result of complex process, whose causes can be find in the long-term development of the Scottish political system and of the Scottish National Party itself, as well as in the short-term factors resulting from the events of previous election periods or from the pre-election campaign. For a basic theoretical concept serves the concept of regionalist parties and with it connected approach of the opportunity structure and of the internal and external resources and constraints. Both the opportunity structure and the internal and external resources and constraints of the Scottish National Party went through the development, without which the party could not reach the success, which it reached.
The status and role of the Scottish Office: development and transformations of the ministry for Scottish affairs in the context of devolution
Hubáčková, Kristina ; Říchová, Blanka (advisor) ; Riegl, Martin (referee)
The theme of this bachelor's thesis is the status and role of the British ministry for Scottish affairs (Scottish Office) and its development in the context of devolution. The work traces the history of the Scottish Office since its foundation in 1885 until its dissolution in 1999, while placing its dissolution into the context of the devolution process in the UK. The objective of the work is to answer the question of whether the Scottish Office acted as a representative of the interests of Scotland at any stage of its development, or whether it only represented the interests of the British Government during the entire period of its existence. In the context of the process of devolution, the work also addresses the Scotland Office, which replaced the Scottish Office after the implementation of devolution proposals in 1999. Based on an analysis and comparison of the activities of the Scottish Office and the Scotland Office, the author concludes that throughout its existence, the ministry for Scottish affairs represented only the interests of the British government in Scotland, and at no stage of its operation was it ever a representative of Scottish interests in the British government.

The Current Position of Scotland within the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland
Manišová, Petra ; Soukup, Jaromír (advisor) ; Říchová, Blanka (referee)
Bachelor thesis "The Current Position of Scotland within the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland" deals with a relationship of Scotland within the Great Britain. The main feature of Scottish politics is nationalism, which characterizes the Scots the most. Although Scotland exists as a part of Great Britain since 1707 within the parliamentary union, the separatist tendencies are intensified in past few decades. I am going to show the historical evolution of Scotland from the establishment of the Crown Union to the current Scottish policy in my thesis. The biggest political event in past four centuries was the creation of Scottish Parliament, seated in Holyrood, Edinburgh. Very important was a creation of Scottish National Party in 1934. It developed from an unpopular political party into one of the most popular parties in Scotland. I will focus on the upcoming referendum on Scottish independence which takes place on September 18 2014. I will also focus on both positive and negative consequences the positive result of referendum may bring.
Defence Policy of Independent Scotland: Role of International Norms and Legitimity in the Process of Proposal Formation
Kafka, Hugo ; Kučera, Tomáš (advisor) ; Kofroň, Jan (referee)
My bachelor's thesis "Defence Policy of Independent Scotland: Role of International Norms and Legitimity in the Process of Proposal Formation" deals with the genesis of proposals for defence policy of an independent Scotland, which served the Scots as a basis for their vote in the referendum "Should Scotland be an independent country?" I will try to explain the effect of the norms which exist in three communities (NATO, United Kingdom and the Nordic countries) on the defence policy of an emerging state I will be using theories of institutionalism and social constructivism. Then I'd like to show how these models were used rhetorically in the pre- referendum political discourse. While advocates of independence are aiming at distinguishing Scotland from the United Kingdom, Scotland identifies itself with the Nordic countries and their orientation on a fair society and welfare state and responsible environmental and foreign policy to some extent (Denmark and Norway in particular) and also in the area of defence policy are their positions regarded as a possible way for an independent Scotland to take. They are used as a possible alternative to British positions and also as means of legitimizing seemingly controversial proposals in the debate preceding the referendum.
