The media image of the second round of the presidential election on television
Tomková, Aneta ; Chrenčík, Roman (advisor) ; Jirák, Jan (referee)
This master's thesis deals with the analysis of the media image of presidential candidates in the second round of presidential elections in the Czech Republic in January 2023. The aim of the thesis is to examine, through quantitative and qualitative content analysis of pre-election presidential debates, how individual candidates were presented on public and private television stations, and whether the principles of objectivity and impartiality were adhered to by the moderators. The first part of the thesis focuses on explaining key terms related to the subject matter, such as direct presidential election, media image, political communication, and the difference between public and private media. The presidential candidates and their political backgrounds are also introduced. The main part of the thesis is devoted to the analysis of the pre-election presidential debates. The quantitative analysis provides precise data on the extent of airtime allocated to each candidate, the number and nature of questions asked, and other relevant factors. The qualitative analysis allows for a deeper examination of the course of debates, the moderators' approach to individual candidates, and the identification of possible violations of the principles of objectivity and impartiality. The results of the analyses...

Gelnar, Matyáš ; Rosenfeldová, Jana (advisor) ; Konrádová, Marcela (referee)
This thesis examines the use of negative campaigning in the communication of selected presidential candidates on the social networks Facebook and Twitter. The aim of the thesis was to find out how much negative campaigning was present in the published posts of the social networks. The chosen research method is quantitative content analysis. For purpose of this analysis, the time period from one calendar month before the first round of the presidential election to the day of the of the second round of the presidential election was set out. The analysis examined published posts of 3 candidates, who according to the election model of Data Collect and Kantar CZ, had the highest percentage chance of advancing to the second round of the election of the President of the Czech Republic. They were Petr Pavel, Andrej Babiš and Danuše Nerudová. The subjects of the analysis were, for example, the time distribution of individual posts, the use of the negative campaigning and the number of likes. The results of the analysis showed that negative campaigning was a certain part of the pre- election communication on the social networks of each candidate, but differences could be observed in the extent of its use. The analysis also showed that posts with negative campaigning were more popular on social media only for...

Trunda, Jakub ; Antoš, Marek (advisor) ; Grinc, Jan (referee)
1 Contemplated reforms of the U.S. presidential election Abstract This diploma thesis is dedicated to the U.S. presidential election, specifically the greatest attention is paid to the electoral system called the electoral college which is used during the election. The text of my thesis relates to the US presidential election which is generally a very extensive topic therefore it is not possible to analyze in detail all the individual aspects of the process and thus provide a complete thorough analysis within this thesis. As a result of this, my aim is to briefly present the historical development of the electoral college along with its current functioning during the election process of the President of the United States. Subsequently, I am going to focus closely on potential reforms of the presidential elections that could significantly contribute to the improvement of the entire process of selecting (electing) the president of the United States. This thesis is divided into three consecutive parts, each part is then divided into several individual chapters. In the first part I am discussing the main historical reasons leading the founding father of the United States to adopt the current presidential electoral system and I am also focusing on its early discovered insufficiencies which had been corrected by...
Presidential Candidates 2023: Social Networks Vs. official debates
Brhelová, Tereza ; Perottino, Michel (advisor) ; Brunclík, Miloš (referee)
The following thesis focuses on the phenomenon of social media in the context of political campaigns. The theoretical part of the thesis deals with the growing trend of using social networks for political communication and marketing purposes. A large part of the thesis is devoted to the direct presidential election, which is considered a relatively new phenomenon in the Czech environment, not yet so anchored in the political context. The practical part of the thesis is built with the help of quantitative content analysis, thanks to which it was possible to analyse a large amount of data from social networks and TV debates. This data is central to the resulting answers to the research questions and hypotheses, which concern the comparison of the selected candidates' communication on social networks in the debates. Thus, the aim of this thesis is to provide an analysis that can be used to compare how the communication of the selected political actors on social networks differs from their communication in the official TV debates.
Female candidates: analysis of the media representation of "femininity" in the Czech presidential elections of 2023
Michvoková, Marie ; Vochocová, Lenka (advisor) ; Reifová, Irena (referee)
The aim of this thesis is to form an idea of the ways in which "feminine" is portrayed in the media in the Czech presidential elections in 2023. The representation of women in top Czech politics is still a minority and no woman has yet become president or prime minister. This fact does not mean that women are not as suitable for these positions as men. It means that they do not have equal opportunities in the public sphere, or rather they do not even dare to enter it. This stems from a patriarchal social order in which public sphere is adapted mainly to men. In the theoretical part of the work, I will therefore focus on the history of feminist movements and the present of feminist theories in the field of politics, the issue of women in top politics and the conceptualization of new media and their relationship with political communication. The methodological and analytical part will deal with the research of media representations. In 2023, only one woman ran in the presidential election - Danuše Nerudová. Based on an analysis of her official social media campaign, I will assess how she worked with the fact that she is a woman. The second part of the analysis will tell something about how this fact is portrayed by one serious and one tabloid media and whether it is somehow important to them. The...

Forejtová, Markéta ; Sehnálková, Jana (advisor) ; Kozák, Kryštof Přemysl (referee)
Bakalářská práce - Markéta Forejtová Abstract This thesis deals with initiatives to reform the Electoral College in the United States of America. The main goal of this thesis is to compare these initiatives and reflect their representativeness of election results. That means to evaluate how these initiatives assess individual votes cast. The main method used in this thesis is comparative analysis. This thesis is divided into four sections, with the first one briefly describing the creation of the Electoral College, as well as changes to its functioning until today. In the second part, controversial cases of presidential elections in the years 2000 and 2016 are described. The third part includes a description and comparison of the initiatives to reform the Electoral College, including their positive and negative aspects based on the criteria of individual vote reflection. To allow a more precise comparison, a hypothetical model of election results was created for each of the initiatives based on the 2016 presidential election. The fourth part explains the implementation of these potential reforms into U.S. law. This thesis comes to a conclusion that direct election of the president is the initiative that reflects the individual votes most precisely. In case of the proportional plan, the election of 2016...

The thesis will also examine whether the presidential candidate uses elements of illiberalism and how he communicates his electoral program. In the theoretical part, the thesis will focus on digital communication as a "new tool of political communication" and define key concepts and theories related to digital and political communication and marketing. The starting point will be the works of political scientist Chytilek (2012 or 2019), who specializes in political marketing, and the works of Matušková (e.g., 2006), an expert on political and electoral marketing. In the practical part, the method of analysing rhetorical and visual means will be used to map the use of populism for political purposes in the pre-election period, the issue of "fake news," and strategies of populist rhetoric on...
