Media literacy as a mean of development of high school student's critical evaluation of political advertisment

This thesis is focused on the impact of media literacy in terms of the ability of high school students to interpret political advertisement. In the part of this thesis the reader will be introduced into the concepts of modern democracy and mass media as its important part especially, within the context of politics, in the pre-election period. The reader will be provided an insight into the issue of the influence of mass media on citizens who are exposed to the products of political marketing. Due to the focus on high school students, this thesis mentions research domestic one as well as international that puts together terms as politics- media-teenagers. The second part of this thesis is designed as a research aimed at the impact of media literacy on the students' skills to analyze a political advertisement as well as their civic attitudes. The research is conducted as a qualitative comparison of statements of the analytical abilities of students who took part in media literacy course with those who did not. Public opinion and market research in the Czech Republic as kind of communication feedback

Bachelor's work deals with market research and public opinion in Czech Republic concentrating on mass media. It presents the research as a suitable feedback for application in mass communications and mass media. The first part of the work defines some basic terms concerning mass communications and media, the following part deals with a short history of investigations in Czech Republic and in the former Czechoslovakia. Next part explains the certain methodolologies and methods which are used in the research. Another part of the work presents the list of the main agencies acting in the sphere of market research and public opinion in Czech Republic. In conclusion of the work it is shown the ethics of investigations and intervention of state, law and norms into research. [Autor's abstract].
The Role of the Media in the Free Speech Movement at Berkeley

The Bachelor thesis The Role of the Media in the Free Speech Movement at the University of California, Berkeley focuses mainly on the events of 1964, when Berkeley became the center of American political activism. In 1964, the university administration prohibited all political activity on the campus. The goal of the Free Speech Movement was to change this decision. The students were able to persuade the administration and their freedoms were restored. The thesis is divided into two main parts. The first part introduces the characteristics of the whole conflict, concentrates on the sources of the conflict as well as its phases and summarizes the impact and aftermath of the movement. The second part deals with the treatment of the movement by media and is divided into three chapters. The first focuses on tendency of the media to accuse the protestors of radicalism. The students participating in the movement were often called communists or beatniks. The second chapter is devoted to Mario Savio, the leader of the movement and the effect media had on his role. The media turned Mario Savio into a national celebrity, while other leading figures were completely ignored by the journalists. Influence of massmedia to upbringing of children

This thesis is about mass media and their influence on upbringing. Theoretical part of thesis is focused on problems of mass media and upbringing and influence of mass media on upbringing. There are describe types and functions of mass media, their influence on the society, furthermore individually upbringing categories and specifics of 21st century. Thesis is closer focused on description of influence on individually digital mass media for upbringing, also on personality of child, and child support for right using mass media at last. In practical are descriptions and results of research through questionnaire which was focused on survey influence mass media in particular cases and their comparison.
Media image of the single-mothers in selected mass media

The present thesis focuses on the image of single-mothers in the selected mass media - that is to say the most read Czech newspapers. The thesis pursues several theories and the concepts such as mass media and their role in setting the agenda for public policy, the stigmatization of lone-parent families (single-mothers), the theory of social construction of target groups (Schneider and Ingram), the topic of lone-parent families and poverty, the feminization of poverty, and concept of social exclusion. The main aim of the thesis is to determine the description of single-mothers in the selected mass media and to find the links, namely between this broadly adopted picture and public policy. Thus, the thesis contains the basic characterization of the situation of single-mothers based on various statistic data, the above mentioned theories and concepts, the presentation of the analyzed newspapers and a detailed description of the method used for the research. The chosen method in the present thesis is the quantitative content analysis. Media education as a mean of development of lower secondary school student's critical assessment

The thesis is focused on the influence of media education of the ability of students of the second grade of elementary schools to interpret media communication. The reader will be provided an insight into the issue of media and their influence on a person with a main focus on the students of the second grade of elementary school. The second part of this thesis present the concept of media education, it offers a proposal for a block of media education with assessment of the impal of teaching on the respektive competencies of the students. The effectiveness of the teaching will be assessed through research surveys designed as a qualitative comparison of students' testimonies after completing a media education course, using the group interview Focus group. The questions are focused on the critical analysis of media communication, whereas students' answers are compared with a control group that was not equally educated. The Singles Phenomenon and its Image in the Mass Media

The bachelor thesis "Phenomenon singles and its image in the mass media" deals with the exploration of the singles media image as it is being depicted in printed mass media and their Internet analogues. The theoretical part of the thesis is devoted to the exploration of the concept of singles, explanation of the used terminology, the emergence of the singles phenomenon, and the description of singles lifestyle. Subsequently, the definition of mass media is provided and the extent of its impact, on forming the opinion of the wider public, is explored. The practical part of the work shows theoretical background of chosen analysis and then uses a method of quantitative content analysis in order to identify the image of singles created by the mass media. The research was carried out on two hundred preselected articles. At the end of the thesis, a summary of the research and its interpretation, based on the chosen theoretical grounding, is made.
