Olga Kučerová Department: Department of Psychology, Faculty of Education Charles University Supervisor: Doc. PhDr. PaedDr. Anna Kucharská, Ph. D. ABSTRACT This dissertation project describes the development phases of the handwriting skills from 1st to 5th grade. The aim of this project is to describe the procedure of dynamic handwriting acquisition concerning two different alphabetic scripts used in Czech elementary schools. These include the traditional cursive script and alternative script that is Comenia Script. We focus on two different styles of penmanship, which are being taught in Czech elementary schools - cursive writing and manuscript writing. Our research sample includes two groups. The first group comprises writers who employ the cursive handwriting style of penmanship, whereas the second group considers the Comenia Script writer i.e. the manuscript style. The research consists of two parts - the theoretical and practical part. The theory defines the basic concepts related to handwriting skills and handwriting development. A substantial part focuses on both styles of penmanship - traditional cursive writing and Comenia Script. We depict their formal characteristics, circumstances of origin and the...

Online recognition of chemical formulas and equations
Nevolová, Kateřina ; Průša, Daniel (advisor) ; Stria, Jan (referee)
In this thesis, we deal with online recognition of handwritten chemical formulas and equations. First, we explain and point out some methods used, and present existing solutions. We examine the properties of the chemical structures. Then we describe our own solution consisting of detection of symbols on the basis of the spacial relations of strokes and their recognition provided by an existing third party library. After that the complex structure of the chemical formula or equation is examined using formal grammar, which we designed. The work also includes implementation of solutions in the form of web application and its experimental evaluation on our own collected set of test data. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)

Stehlík, Matěj ; Konrád, Zdeněk (advisor) ; Krupička, Jiří (referee)
Forensic Handwriting Examination The aim of this thesis is to introduce the Forensic handwriting examination as one of the disciplines of Forensic identification, to describe its methods and procedures, and to demonstrate them on specific examples. The aim of the practical part of the thesis is to apply the findings described in the theoretical part of the thesis to the handwriting examination carried out by the author of the thesis, to experimentally verify some of hypotheses presented in the thesis, such as the influence of various factors on the handwriting of an individual, and to examine the most frequent methods of deliberate alteration of one's handwriting. The first chapter of the thesis is focused on the definition of the term "Handwriting Examination", on a brief examination of the history of this branch of forensic science, and on the analysis of its relations to other fields of forensic science, especially to the graphology. The following chapter describes the procedure of establishing one's handwriting habits, the influence of the Czech handwriting system taught to children, and some of the internal and external factors which influence one's handwriting. Jandová, Jana ; Šnýdrová, Ivana (advisor) ; Beneš, Milan (referee)
This thesis deals with graphology and its possible use in personnel management. Its aim is to handle this projective method from both theoretical and practical points of view - both to define graphology and explain related terms, and to consider the possible practical contribution of this method to HR. In this thesis, the tasks of a graphologist are introduced, as well as the nature and way of his or her work with handwriting. Global impression signs, measuring signs and description signs are also mentioned as means of interpretation and graphological analysis. Attention is also paid to the formation of individual handwriting, which is greatly influenced by school handwriting models. In this connection, the thesis also handles the newly coined Comenia Script handwriting model. Another topic of interest are graphological expert opinions being closely connected with ethical principles of graphology. The final part is devoted to the practical use of graphology as a method of recruiting workers in personnel management. This thesis is to provide a basic overview of graphology and principles of work with handwriting. Some knowledge in this field can be of use for personnel managers, recruitment consultants, educational consultants, psychologists, andragogists or all those interested in this discipline....
Online rozpoznávání ručně psaných matematických formulí
Stria, Jan ; Průša, Daniel (advisor) ; Mráz, František (referee)
In this thesis, we deal with online recognition of handwritten mathematical formulas. We provide an introduction to the field of study, discuss the current state of the art and survey several existing implementations in detail. Then we present our own solution comprehending two steps. In the first step, individual symbols are detected utilizing temporal and spatial relations of the handwritten strokes. Then we recognize the symbols by combining results provided by an existing third party library with our rule based methods and template symbols matching. In the second step, a structure of the formula is examined. We introduce a novel approach incorporating a grammar based description of the formula with a statistical evaluation of the subexpressions. We also discuss related problems comprehending implementation of the recognizer as a web application and acquisition of the sample data.
