Shadows/Conspiracy
Valchářová, Martina ; Houdek, Vladimír (referee) ; Rathouský, Luděk (advisor)
The diploma thesis deals with psychosis. Portraits of people who suffered from some type of psychosis, and which in most cases is caused by long-term drug abuse or drinking of alcohol. This is depicted with figurative painting in such a way that the painting that its style and the color spectrum corrensponds to the profile of a person with this form of mental illness and mental changes in the brain at different stages of of the disease. The output will be a series of paintings of a united size of formats that will be based , thematically a basis of dialogues with people who currently suffer or have suffered from some psychosis. The authenticity of the experiences of these people with toxic psychosis is very sensitive material, therefor it is proccessed, in this series, in such a way that can it bring closer to the viewers to posibally unimaginable situations and ways of perception of reality.
Interactions of hormones and drugs with soil organic matter
Krajňáková, Soňa ; Enev, Vojtěch (referee) ; Klučáková, Martina (advisor)
This thesis is focused on the problem of interaction of hormones and drugs with a soil organic matter. The most commonly occurring drugs are described, as well as their features, behaviour and possible factors influencing this behaviour. These substances are frequently transported to the soil through a sewage treatment plant, as the cleaning process of wastewater is not effective enough to ensure complete removal of these substances. Once in the soil, the life of organisms in this environment can be negatively influenced. The soil used in experiments was not contaminated with any of these substances as it was used as a matrix for sorption and desorption. Two experiments were conducted using Ibuprofen, where its sorption and desorption on the soil was observed. The intention was to ensure detection of changes which occurred in the concentration of Ibuprofen after concluding these processes. Liquid chromatography method with mass spectrometric detection was used for a final analysis.
Antimikrobiální rezistence a její šíření v potravinovém řetězci
Maršová, Nikol
The bachelor thesis deals with the resistance of microorganisms to antimicrobial agents and its subsequent spread in the food chain. It focuses mainly on the resistance of microorganisms to antibiotics, in relation to the types of antibiotics according to their chemical structure and their mechanism of action. It describes the basic principles of agents used against viruses, yeasts, fungi and parasites. Characterises the nature of the emergence and mechanisms of resistance. It also discusses the methods used to determine the resistance of microorganisms to antimicrobial agents. Describes when resistance of microorganisms began to emerge historically and its occurrence in different sections of the food chain. In relation to the spread of antimicrobial resistance in the food chain, it describes the most serious zoonotic agents today.
Mapping nursing care issues from the perspective of nurses in patients with symptoms of aggression due to substance withdrawal in selected metabolic intensive care units
Kousalová, Hedvika ; Trnková, Ivana (advisor) ; Těšínský, Pavel (referee)
The thesis deals with the issue of nursing care in patients with manifestations of aggression due to substance withdrawal syndrome in metabolic intensive care units. A questionnaire survey was carried out among general nurses, paramedics, and nurse practitioners. Three sub-objectives were established: to identify the most frequently utilized nursing interventions related to the studied issue, to assess the perceived psychological and physical burdens on healthcare staff, and to gauge their interest in further education on this matter. The theoretical background of the thesis deals with definitions of substance use, types of substance abuse, withdrawal syndrome and specifics of nursing care for patients with manifestations of aggression, including education and legal aspects of the use of restraints in health care settings. To collect data for the research part, anonymous non-standardized questionnaires (see appendix) were used for general nurses and nurse practitioners working in metabolic intensive care units in selected university hospitals in Prague. The thesis concludes with a summary of recommendations for nursing practice in the area of nursing care of patients with manifestations of aggression after withdrawal from addictive substances based on a comparison of the results of the research...
Criminal liability in the handling of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances in the health care sector
Jedličková, Kristýna ; Bohuslav, Lukáš (advisor) ; Drápal, Jakub (referee)
The present thesis deals with the criminal liability in the handling of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances in the health care sector, which is accompanied by a number of nooks and crannies that I try to reveal in the thesis. The thesis explores the duties and responsibilities of health service providers, whose role is crucial to ensuring quality care and patient safety. The first part of the thesis focuses on defining basic terms in the field of health service delivery. Then the thesis analyses the obligations that health service providers, especially doctors, have to comply with. The key term is the duty of lege artis, and the thesis discusses in detail the various aspects of this duty, its violation in the form of non lege artis procedure, and then provides examples from practice. The second part of the thesis is devoted to medicinal products, whereby their development up to registration is first presented, followed by their prescription. An important topic is also off-label medication, which "gained popularity" especially in the period of the COVID-19 pandemic. The third part of the thesis deals with criminal liability and its basic aspects, together with circumstances precluding illegality, which are focused on the area of provision of health services. This part then discusses in detail...
Effect of lipophilic cation on the toxicity of phosphonium salts in parasitic protists
Čadková, Aneta ; Mach, Jan (advisor) ; Trnka, Jan (referee)
The mitochondrion is an essential organelle responsible for energy metabolism and maintaining cellular homeostasis. Disruption of their function can have serious consequences for the entire cell and organism. Given their key role in the organism, they become an attractive target for drugs. In this thesis, we examine the impact and significance of phosphonium salts as potential mitochondrial-targeted therapeutics. The investigated compounds have modified anchors based on the commonly used triphenylphosphonium cation (TPP+ ). These substances have the ability to permeate the phospholipid bilayer and accumulate on the inner mitochondrial membrane. Our research focuses on selected model organisms of the class Kinetoplastida and opportunistic pathogenic fungi. These pathogenic organisms are responsible for severe infectious diseases in humans. Our aim is to compare the effectiveness of phosphonium salts with different anchor modifications against these organisms and attempt to elucidate their mechanism of action. We have found that the modified salts are capable of inhibiting the growth of parasitic protists at nM concentrations, affecting mitochondrial respiration, membrane potential, and mitochondrial integrity. However, there is no increase in the level of oxygen radicals. We are assuming that the...
Treatment options for untreatable amoeba Naegleria fowleri
Veselý, Martin ; Mach, Jan (advisor) ; Arbon, Dominik (referee)
Naegleria fowleri is a free-living protist which can penetrate the body of a previously healthy person and cause meningoencephalitis. The rapid course, disproportionately strong immune response and the lack of effective drugs are the reasons why this disease almost always ends fatally. Due to the relative rarity of this disease, it is not lucrative for pharmaceutical companies to develop a completely new drug. The only way to search for effective drugs is to test those that have already been approved for another purpose. However, clinical tests are not possible due to the low morbidity and rapid course of the disease, and research in this area is thus limited to animal models of the disease and evaluation of the effect of drugs against the pathogen in vitro. Currently used medication includes drugs that are highly toxic or poorly penetrate the site of inflammation. In the future, more effective chemotherapy against N. fowleri and more gentle towards patient could be used. This work summarizes knowledge about pathogenic amoeba, currently used drugs and presents new experimentally tested therapeutics.
