Natural Language Processing: Analysis of Information Technology Students’ Spoken Language
Stanković, Aleksandar ; Šťastná, Dagmar (oponent) ; Ellederová, Eva (vedoucí práce)
This bachelor’s thesis deals with the issue of new artificial intelligence technologies in natural language processing. The thesis consists of a theoretical part and an analytical part. The theoretical part approaches the issue by dividing it into three chapters: artificial intelligence and statistics, natural language processing, and IBM Watson Natural Language Understanding. Each of these chapters is elaborated on by using at least one example from the real world. In the first chapter, the main aim is to frame the theoretical framework of artificial intelligence and its practices, while in the second chapter, natural language processing and its primary functions are explained as well as its relation to artificial intelligence itself. The aim of the third chapter is to introduce natural language understanding as the primary tool for analysis which is done in the analytical part. The analytical part deals with the analysis of students’ spoken language using various methods. Collected video samples are transcribed by means of a machine translator as a natural language processing application, while the textual output is analysed through a natural language understanding engine. The applied knowledge from the theoretical part is used in the analytical part that includes the description of research methodology, presentation and interpretation of research results.
A Perpetual Glass Ceiling? The Position of Women in the ICT Sector
Sobina, Anastasiia ; Žouželková Bartošová, Marie (oponent) ; Ellederová, Eva (vedoucí práce)
The purpose of this Bachelor’s thesis is to examine women’s position in the ICT sector. This thesis analyses the low representation of women in the ICT professions and in the ICT companies. It also deals with the hypothesis that females are facing a so-called “glass ceiling” that prevents women and minorities from obtaining upper-level positions, basing on stereotypes and prejudices. The theoretical part of this thesis consists of the following topics: the role of women in the historical development of computers, the list of some of the most outstanding females in the computer science world, the reasons for under-representation of female specialists in the ICT sector, the concept of “glass ceiling” and the description of the current situation in Europe, specifically in the Czech Republic, which is also complemented by the research statistics of the Czechitas organization. The information was collected by studying literature and analysing studies related to the topic. In the empirical part of this thesis, qualitative and quantitative research was conducted. The data were gathered by means of a questionnaire survey and interviews.
Selected Types of DC Circuit Analysis in MATLAB Programming Language
Urbanová, Hedvika ; Haupt, Jaromír (oponent) ; Ellederová, Eva (vedoucí práce)
This bachelor thesis deals with methods of a DC circuit analysis. Both universal and special methods are discussed. All methods are theoretically determined. Calculation procedure is explained and advantages and disadvantages of each method are considered. Universal methods are explained by means of a problem identical for each method. Next, MATLAB is introduced as a programming language. Four of the discussed methods are written into the programming language MATLAB 2014a, namely the loop current method, the node voltage method, Kirchhoff’s laws, and the superposition method. The loop current method as well as Kirchhoff’s laws are programmed for two to four loops. The node voltage method is programmed for two to four nodes. The superposition method is programmed only for two loops. A graphical user interface is defined and designed for the program of Kirchhoff’s laws. Finally, the use of the programs by students is considered.
Special Effects in Cinematography
Frkáň, Lukáš ; Rujbrová, Šárka (oponent) ; Ellederová, Eva (vedoucí práce)
The aim of this bachelor’s thesis is to frame the concept of special effects in cinematography, provide basic information about special effects at the theoretical and practical level, divide special effects into categories and subcategories including the detailed description of special effects mentioned in the thesis and the historical background. The thesis also deals with the design of special effects and their limitations, applications in the film industry and other industries where applicable. At the beginning, the study examines the history of cinematography. Furthermore, this study first draws attention to the description of visual effects used at the early stages of cinematography, while it concludes with the modern effects that are being used currently. Subsequently, the description of practical effects is discussed to conclude the theoretical part. In the last part, the knowledge of the concept of special effects acquired in the theoretical part is reflected and applied in an analysis of movies awarded by the Academy Award for Best Visual Effects.
Medical Robotics
Herman, Michal ; Rujbrová, Šárka (oponent) ; Ellederová, Eva (vedoucí práce)
Medical robotics is an area of robots used in medicine and its main purpose is to provide assistance and expand the capabilities of medical personnel. It is also used to help and assist patients and the elderly who are dependent on the help of others. Although it is still a very young field, medical robotics has changed the way in which medicine has been perceived in the last few decades. Due to its high accuracy and ability to help people, its potential is enormous. Specialists and developers are therefore trying to further expand and improve this area. The aim of this work is to provide a comprehensive survey of medical robots’ evolution including concrete examples of robots that are used in this area and to explain how individual robots work and how some of them are programmed.
Speech Acts Performed by Information Technology Students in Online Debates
Gajdošová, Gabriela ; Zmrzlá, Petra (oponent) ; Ellederová, Eva (vedoucí práce)
This bachelor’s thesis aims to frame the concept of speech acts and discuss issues related to their interactional aspects in argumentative discussions. The theoretical part of the thesis is written in the style of a literature review, beginning with an explanation of basic terminology of speech acts and defining the illocutionary force and its indicators. It also provides a detailed comparison of three different approaches to the analysis of speech acts and describes their roles using the model of a critical discussion. The analytical part of the thesis focuses on the practical application of the theoretical concepts. It defines the rules of online debates, describes their phases and provides an analysis of boosters and hedges and speech acts based on transcripts of the debates. The results of the analysis are displayed in tables, supplemented with illustrative examples and then discussed.

Scrum Values and Principles: Design of a Multimedia Learning Environment for the Study Programme English in Electrical Engineering and Informatics
Borovskiy, Sergey ; Smutný, Milan (oponent) ; Ellederová, Eva (vedoucí práce)
This bachelor’s thesis aims to provide a theoretical framework for the application of the Agile method, namely Scrum, into the English Language Teaching process. Besides, the thesis contains a practical part that serves as an illustrative example of such an implementation presented for demonstration purposes in an environment of a lightweight management software named Trello. The Content and Language Integrated Learning approach is used to assist in the accomplishment of the objectives set in the thesis. Provided that CLIL is a dual-focused method, the Trello board comprises the materials of the subject Electrical Engineering taught in the English in Electrical Engineering and Informatics study programme at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Communications at Brno University of Technology. Therefore, the practical part combines both a professional subject and linguistically oriented materials.
Smart Clothing Technology and Application

The main goal of this bachelor thesis is to acquaint the reader with the issue of smart clothes and frame their concept. The thesis provides a brief historical survey to build a background for smart clothes including a few illustrative examples. The author classifies smart clothes according to their integration into garments, the position regarding the human body and he lists the groups into which smart clothes can be further divided. Next, he deals with the design of smart clothes, which depends on the end users’ requirements. He also describes the possible construction of smart clothes, discusses the communication architecture, which considers a smart garment as a system with an emphasis on the communication facet, and the importance of a layering system for smart clothes.
