The Impact of Theory of Optimal Currency Areas on Discursus of Political Parties ČSSD and ODS about the Entry to the Eurozone Between the Years 2010 - 2012

1 Abstract This essay is about the theory of optimal currency areas (OCA) and its reflection in public discussion of two biggest political parties in Czech Republic - ODS and ČSSD, about Czech Republic entering the European Monetary Union (EMU). Although EMU hadn't met the criteria of OCA before the examined period, both parties entered the elections in May 2010 with more or less pro-european program despite decreasing support of eurozone in Czech public opinion. ČSSD, as well as ODS, only limitedly mentioned the OCA in their argumentation whereas they explained their attitude with other reasons. While ČSSD remained loyal to its pro European policy even after the election, ODS started diverting from their European agenda right after them. This process ended with their demand for referendum about the entry of Czech Republic to the Eurozone. Before the elections, Social Democrats were the ones to discuss this topic the most, but afterwards their rhetoric limited mostly to reactions to public statements and actions of ODS only.

Analysis of publicistic columns specifically focused on politically aimed commentary

Diploma thesis, Analysis of publicistic columns specifically focused on politically aimed commentary, treats of attitude of authors of publicistic columns about political parties or eventually to politicians. The aim of this work is to describe the ways and means of expressing authors use to formulate their position, focusing on these within Pravo's and Mladá fronta DNES's print-outs from January 2010 to June 2010 so mainly in months before the elections. The first part presents modern development of approach to language and text. That should elucidate how the pragmatic way of language examination has begun. In the practical part I applied the approach to language and text, as listed above, and I applied the pragmatic analysis. Qualitative analysis of publicistic columns examines inclination of authors to left-wing or right-wing parties, mostly to ODS or ČSSD. It is possible to deduce what authors criticize within the frame of the whole political situation. This work also examines, what means authors of publicistic articles use to profess affection or aversion to particular politician or political party. This diploma thesis forms compendium of publicistic texts in chosen journals and characterizes the conception which reflects their relation to politics.

Media image of Jana Nagyova on media scandal "Abused of Military Intelligence"

The intention of my thesis is to analyze "the image of Jana Nagyova on media scandal "Abuse of Military Intelligence"in the period of June 1st 2013 to December 31th 2013 and from May 11th 2015 to July 31st 2015. It is dependent on every single phase of that case and incorporating the large social effects as well. I focused on the semantic forms of the headlines printed by daily Blesk, Mlada fronta Dnes and Pravo. In this research, I decided to use a quantitative analysis based on the answering of the basic hypothesis. This hypothesis is called: it is possible to blamed Jana N. based just by these kinds of headlines, before getting the verdict in this cause? To be more specific: it is possible that all these headlines were prepared to affect the reader's perception of Jana N. including her judgment in the moral, the social or in criminal law ? I also tried to analyze if it could be possible to find the basic differences between the newspapers as it is so- called and the investigative journalism in general. Causes of the actual ODS crisis

Bachelor thesis Causes of the actual ODS crisis deals with finding the reasons for the current state of the ODS. This party was one of the most important parties in the nineties of the twentieth century and determined the direction of the entire Czech political events. At present the party has only 16 seats in the Chamber of Deputies and the situation has not improved much. The first part focuses on the theoretical concept of parties and their definition. With this chapter ODS can be defined as conservative-liberal party. Another part focuses on the history and development of the ODS, there is already outlined what possible reasons could get the side into the current crisis. In the last part is a selection of the most important moments of the party, but also events that are completely unrelated to ODS. It has been selected six key things while three were later proved to be the reasons that led to the current crisis. The first reason is that the party is unable to cope with its program of transformation and could not find another key topic. The departure of its founder Vaclav Klaus had the negative impact on the side. The third reason is the emergence of new parties, due to this fact the party is losing voters.

Construction of Media Reality during Mirek Topolánek's Resignation Period

The thesis Construction of Media Reality during Mirek Topolánek's Resignation Period analyses a total of 294 instances of media output published or broadcast between 20th March and 1st April 2010 and dealing with Mirek Topolanek's resignation from his positions within the ODS in the context of his statements for LUI Magazine. The interview dealt with the Jewish faith, homosexual orientation or the voters of the ČSSD. The theoretical part of the thesis elucidates themes related to the construction of reality as described by Peter L. Berger and Thomas Luckmann, media routines, which can contribute to this phenomenon, and the creation of myth according to Roland Barthes. The research part of the thesis uses the propositions of Critical Discourse Analysis with an emphasis on Critical Linguistics, to isolate discourses, which were used to establish a connection between Topolánek's statements for LUI Magazine and his exit from the ODS and politics in general. A partial analysis also notices how the linguistic tools of tabloid and non-tabloid media were brought closer together. Finally, the Semiotic Analysis focuses on the caricatures of Mirek Topolánek and identifies myths which served as a basis for perceiving his image and the possibility of his further political career.

The impact of national identity on Czech position towards European integration

The Czech Republic has been regarded as a little troublemaker of the EU due to its Eurosceptic stances. This phenomenon was distinct in the 2000s regardless of the state's position, whether it was just an EU candidate or already a member state. Around the time, President Vacláv Klaus and his political party (ODS), as Czech leadership, contributed to promoting the Eurosceptic governments towards the EU. It could be seen as strange that such a trait was revealed both in the midst of preparations to join the EU and after its accession when it is the proper time to present a cooperative attitude. Thus, this thesis speculates that the skeptical national identity of the Czech Republic has been constructed throughout history, particularly about 450 years from the Bohemia Kingdom to Czechoslovakia (1525~1971), and affected then Czech domestic politics to formulate the official Eurosceptic positions towards the several EU integration matters (constitutional, security, and monetary integrations). In this context, this master's thesis aims to find an objective correlation that Czech identity had an influence on then Czech Euroscepticism. This way, this thesis expects to advance knowledge concerning Czech identity and its relevance to European politics.

V roce 2005 se do vedení strany dostal historicky nejmladší vůdce a premiér David Cameron a spolu s ním došlo i ke změně ve směřování strany. Do popředí se dostala sociální politika a také ochrana životního prostředí. V České republice je myšlenka pravicového konzervatismu reprezentována stranou ODS, která vznikla na začátku devadesátých let minulého století v čele s Václavem Klausem. Ten dlouhou dobu určoval směřování této strany a stál v jejím čele řadu let. Václav Klaus je známý svým euroskepticismem a kritikem environmentalismu - jeho vliv na stranu je dodnes patrný.
