Electronic Elections as a Phenomenon and Potential of 21st Century
Fiedler, Jan ; Stauber, Jakub (advisor) ; Brunclík, Miloš (referee)
The Master's thesis examines the phenomenon of electronic elections in the definition of an alternative method of remote voting via the Internet and combines the approach of a survey paper and a case study. The theoretical basis of the thesis is a description of the concept of e- democracy, postal voting and electronic elections, a definition of the typology of this alternative method and the accentuated risks, a summary of the general development of the debate in the Czech environment and an analysis of the process of the initial phase of implementation of electronic elections in the electoral systems of Estonia, Norway and Switzerland. The theoretical background is followed by an analytical section on these selected countries, which examines the characteristics of case-by-case approaches to the implementation and risks of e- elections and the potential impacts on selected indicators such as voter turnout and global state of democracy indices. The analysis of the aspects is conducted in a consecutive and separate categorical framework, whereby the issues are viewed from the specific perspectives of the countries in question, taking into account the differences in political systems. Final implications and conclusions are drawn in the context of a higher level of relevance based on a comparison of...
Ovarian stimulation and related hyperstimulation syndrome
Pohlová, Nikola ; Komrsková, Kateřina (advisor) ; Ješeta, Michal (referee)
Ovarian stimulation is a key process of assisted reproduction and it helps women in the treatment of infertility. Hormonal ovarian stimulation ensures the growth and development of ovarian follicles. The selected dominant follicle releases an oocyte during ovulation, which is destined for fertilization. In methods of artificial fertilization, multiple follicles are stimulated, and more oocytes are retrieved. The retrieved oocytes are then fertilised in vitro. In this thesis, the benefits and risks of the commonly used stimulation protocols are discussed. The focus is on optimizing stimulation for individual patients, considering their health status, functional ovarian reserve, and individual needs. Special stimulation protocols for patients with polycystic ovary syndrome and for patients with cancer are presented. Ovarian stimulation is also applied to oocyte donors. The most serious risk of ovarian stimulation is ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome. Ovarian stimulation is also used in the rescue of endangered mammalian species or in the breeding of domesticated animals. The study of ovarian stimulation is important for the improvement of reproductive methods in human and veterinary medicine. Key words: follicles, ovarian stimulation, assisted reproduction, ovulation, risks
Risk of introducton of leishmaniases into Europe
Přibylová, Helena ; Dvořák, Vít (advisor) ; Vojtková, Barbora (referee)
Leishmania is a genus of parasitic protozoa-causing disease called leishmaniasis. This disease manifests itself in some clinical forms. Proven vectors are phlebotomine sand flies (Diptera: Psychodidae) From more than 900 described species of Phlebotomus to date, probably more than 80 are proven or suspected vectors of leishmanias. The main endemic area is the Mediterranean in Europe, where the proven or suspected phlebotomine sand flies occur. Over the years, more leishmaniasis cases have been reported (more than 10,000 cases of human nonendemic leishmaniasis and more than 700 imported cases of canine leishmaniasis usually from non-endemic European countries). Imported cases of leishmaniasis are mostly reported among tourists and travellers who travel due to their professional reasons (scientists, workmen, soldiers) and migrants. Phlebotomine sand flies spread to new areas and the models, which are based on climate change and the environment, show, that this trend will continue. This thesis tries to discuss some risk factors associated with the potential risk of introducing and spreading leishmaniasis into Europe. Keywords: Leishmania, Phlebotomus, leishmaniasis, introduction, Europe, distribution, risks, hosts, vectors
