Racial predjudices and stereotypes in education

This diploma thesis focuses on the topic of prejudices and stereotypes in education. The theoretical part deals with origin and spread of prejudices and stereotypes, practical examples of these terms and also possible forms of prevention in education. The last chapter, following the practical part, addresses the role of a teacher as a personality as well as a member of pedagogical staff when working with these phenomena. The practical part, containing in-depth interviews, focuses on concrete opinions of teachers as personalities with their own experiences as well as members of pedagogical staff, which are pivotal to development of students' moral values. I concentrate on their personal attitudes and consequent work with these attitudes in teaching. Education of physically disabled Children

This bachelor's thesis focuses on the problem of education for children with physical disabilities. It discusses the possibility of their integration into the mainstream society and it opens a question of a special educational needs school as an acceptable alterna- tive on the way to a full inclusion. Through qualitative case study, it verifies Tom Schmid's idea that this kind of school may be a possible option only if it is not a total institution as E. Goffman puts it, it keeps the social functions of a school and respects student's individuality while concerning the handicap as part of his personality. The text specifies basic school functions, defines physical disabled people and their educa- tional opportunities and it describes the concept of total institution by E. Goffman as well as latter authors. The case study, based on participant observation, interviews and official document analysis, interprets totality of the institution in relation to its closedness that is not demonstrated by physical barriers as in E. Goffman's concept. The school possesses other features to bind its inmates within the walls. The research findings are interpreted in context of integration. It also looks at the conditions of ac- ceptability of special school education proposed by Tom Schmid.

Racial Integration of U.S. Professional Baseball in 1940s and 1950s

The presented work "Racial Integration of U.S. Professional Baseball in 1940's and 1950's" deals with circumstances and motives, which led to the breakthrough in racial segregation in major baseball leagues a few years before the civil rights movement in 1950's and 1960's. Most of American society in 1940's followed the racial segregation rules. The thesis approaches motives and roots, which led to baseball integration in time of unchallenged segregationist conventions. The main goal is to analyze the impact of the personal motives of Brooklyn Dodgers general manager Branch Rickey as well as the impact of outer factors, the Second World War and 1940's New York State law-making process on this issue. According to conclusions, Rickey was instrumental in ending racial discrimination in baseball. This move was caused by coordination of economic, sports and strictly personal reasons. Above all, the success of the integration was based on New York State laws forbidding the segregation in employment and putting pressure on segregated institutions, thus on professional baseball organizations.

Specifics of the integration of exceptionally gifted children in kindergarten

This thesis deals with the integration of gifted children to kindergarten. It outlines the needs and demands of these children - parents, educators, environment, forms and methods of education. The practical part focuses on specific research - identifying gifted children in kindergarten and on the conditions of their education. The research was conducted by e-mail between kindergarten teachers in all 14 regions of the Czech Republic. The practical part is supplemented by two case report of exceptionally gifted children (a boy and a girl) who are (resp. were) integrated and educated in private nursery schools. Conclusion The thesis contains suggestions for how to practice.

In addition, the survey provides a certain historical context related to the education of minorities in the Czech Republic before 1989, and describes the current situation in the area of multicultural education in our country. It examines how teachers should be equipped to deal with situations linked to multicultural education and what teaching methods teachers use to motivate pupils. In the practical part, it shows examples of several lessons in which teachers work with broad topics of multicultural education. It also contains an overview of several case studies based on experience. The work should contribute to a greater discussion of the subject. The Imigrants and their Adaptation in the Czech Republic after 1989

and key words Content of this bachelor thesis is based on a written professional case study of an immigrant group, concentrated on expatriates in the Czech Republic after the year 1989. It is an elaboration of data and detailed analysis of immigrants called expatriates, in other words immigrants in our country. Work is conceived on read literature, fieldwork and with the support of lectures at the Institute of Ethnology at the Faculty of Arts of Charlese University in Prague. The project deals mainly with issues of migration, immigration and its development from the year 1989 till today's date. Therefore it is retrospective view on a given subject and reflects the situation in our country. Offers theoretical framework, definitions and explanations of significant aspects in the area of international migration to the Czech Republic and its development.

Defects and properties of heavy castings

A diploma thesis was objected to a figure analyzing and a figure interpretation of ingot processing. The described figures were obtained from samples which were taking from feeder-heads of ingot of lower ram, produced in Vitkovice Machinery Group. The thesis was focused on ingot solidification and segregation processes which were associated with this procedure. The figures obtained from numeric simulation of ingot solidification in defined places were analyzed using statistic method – linear regression, as well as linear regression was used for evaluation of explored samples, their chemical compositions and mechanical properties. In conclusion all acquired results were summarized.

The segragation of mixtures to pavement

The work deals with the examination of repression and segregation in asphalt mixtures. The theoretical part is monitoring the current situation about the problem of segregation, which mainly refers to the practical adjustments during laying „risking“ asphalt mixtures on the formation of segregated places in the shelter layers of roads. The practical parts of the thesis are summarised measurements on six samples of the most commonly used asphalt mixtures to determine the segregation depending on the selected parameters. The work is describing and valorising a test for determining segregation according to ČSN EN 12697-15.

Gender segregation in the field of science in the Czech Republic in the year 2015

The topic of this bachelor thesis is the current state of labor market segregation in the field of science and research in the Czech Republic. The first part focuses on the historical context of the problem, definition of key terms associated with gender segregation, the funding of science and institutions dealing with gender equality. This part also lists some of the most important women scientists from the Czech republic and rest of the world alike and their contributions to science. The second part focuses on analysis of the current situation in the science sector from the perspective of gender equality using data collected from the survey. The data analysis shows gender segregation in the science sector to be a widespread problem in all its subtypes, mainly in the context of career advancement to managerial positions.
