Andraschko, Rudolf Vladimír ; Weiss, Tomáš (advisor) ; Svoboda, Karel (referee)
The bachelor thesis Prosazování energetického programu ČR během předsednictví ČR EU v první polovině roku 2009 ve stínu energetické krize na Ukrajině a pádu vlády ČR aims to briefly evaluate if the two chosen factors, the Russia-Ukraine gas crisis and the fall of the government of the Czech Republic on the 24th of March 2009, had any effect on the upholding of the energy policy of the Czech Republic during its Presidency of the European Union. The thesis is based on the analysis of the work programme of the Czech Republic that was published before the actual presidency, and its comparation to achieved outcomes with consideration of the designated affairs. Both chosen factors are closely linked to the ability of the Czech Republic to uphold its energy policy. But while the gas crisis was an interstate conflict which directly influenced the safety of the European Union countries, the fall of the government of the Czech Republic was a domestic outcome of a long-term problematic situation in the parliament after the elections in the year 2006.

Bradáč, Adam ; Romancov, Michael (advisor) ; Jeřábek, Martin (referee)
This master thesis called "Germany as an energopolitical player" deals with the problem of energy security of Germany, with the evolution of German energy policy from 1988, it means from the start of Gerhard Shroeder's chancellor period, till nowadays. The aim of this thesis is to determine whether the German energy policy, which is characterized by the energy partnership between Germany and Russia, hinders a closer integration of European energy policy (EEP) which aims at the formation of a unified EU energy policy. Therefore the interdependence of Russia and Germany, its advantages as well as disadvantages, are analyzed. Part of this work tries to analyze also the positions of German political parties (or factional groups) on the issues of energy security of Germany, as well as the possible change of the Russian-German partnership in the context of the start of Angela Merkel's chancellor period. The economic dimension of this partnership cannot be left behind as well, because there are also many private energy companies, which have a huge impact on the shape of German energy policy. Therefore, also the role of these private actors is analyzed.

Discursive energy security : narratives and public relations in natural gas pipelines. Nabucco vs. South Stream case study
Khasabova, Alina ; Svoboda, Karel (advisor) ; Aslan, Emil (referee)
The paper studies the theoretical and practical application of public relations to the geopolitical nature of international energy projects in order to expand our understanding of the energy sector's domination of the current political and social environments. More specifically, the paper analyses how energy companies that exhibit close links to the state are able to create and cultivate beliefs in the legitimacy of their exploitation of society's resources in pursuit of their country's national political interests. The focus of the paper is a critical discourse analysis (CDA) of the competition for legitimacy between Nabucco Gas Pipeline International GmbH and Gazprom's South Stream Pipeline. The paper analyzes the discursive competition between the two pipelines over existence in, and legitimate domination of, the European discursive space. It then compares constructed narratives to quantitative factors that shape the European energy market and technical and financial specifications of each pipeline on the basis of its ability to adequately meet European energy demands and enhance European energy security. The purpose of the paper is to demonstrate how Nabucco and South Stream have been able to overcome discursively their technical and financial shortcomings to become perceived as geopolitical tools in a...
