Using interviews with representatives from both sides the second part describes the way they communicate, what would make it better and how medialization of non- profit stories looks like. Interviews also show the communication in the Tree Workers Case, followed by the analysis of chosen printed newspapers and magazines. The aim of this thesis is to discover the process of communication between journalists and non-profit institutions in the Czech media environment and to analyse the medialization of the Tree Workers Case.

Koppitz, Radim ; Křeček, Jan (advisor) ; Hájek, Roman (referee)
The Media Image of the Campaign "Děkujeme, odcházíme" in Selected Czech Daily Press Abstract The aim of the thesis is to analyze an overall image of the "Děkujeme, odcházíme" ("Thank you, we are leaving") campaign in two Czech dailies - Lidové noviny and Hospodářské noviny. The protest campaign run by medical unions resulted from the fact that doctors in Czech hospitals had not been satisfied both with their salary and working conditions. The unions asked a professional PR agency to manage the campaign, which is why the campaign was in the end much more effective and successful than any of the previous attempts. Quantitative content analysis has been chosen as a method for this research. Content of dailies is being analyzed from several aspects - overall coverage of the topic, its development over time, analysis of how media presented key motives for doctors' wanting to leave the hospitals, analysis of negative aspects of doctors' leaving and their development in time, evaluation of balanced access of conflict's key parties and their actors to the media and also an analysis of preferences of the media articulated via opinion texts. The research covers the period from May 2010, the actual beginning of the campaign, to April 2011, i.e. - just two months after the peak of the campaign. Theoretical part...

Nečas, Vlastimil ; Jirák, Jan (advisor) ; Just, Petr (referee) ; Šubrt, Jiří (referee)
This dissertation thesis follows from a wide stream of considerations of the relationship between the mass media, public and politics; in particular detail, it deals with a specific concept which attempts to grasp, model and empirically examine this relationship. The main goals of the thesis can be in short divided into two interrelated areas. The first aim is to introduce the concept of agenda setting to the Czech academic environment, with its theoretical, terminological and research frame for an analysis of relationships between the mass media content, dynamics of public opinion, and the political sphere. The second aim is to analyze how agenda setting processes are theoretically grounded and studied in the Czech social studies. The theoretical part of the thesis is structured according to two perspectives: diachronic and synchronic. In the diachronic perspective, I try to grasp the social context and historical origins of agenda-setting as a concept, its development, main trends, and developmental lines. This way, I move forward to the synchronic perspective and describe academic grounding of agenda-setting; I give a detailed analysis of the present level of the agenda-setting research and the main research areas through available classifications. The second fundamental area of the dissertation consists...

A threat of state bankruptcy as a basic element of the czech electoral media agenda
Vávra, Jan ; Šoltys, Otakar (advisor) ; Wolák, Radim (referee)
Václav Bělohradský stated (Právo, July 3, 2010) that "'Greece' was one of the biggest pre-election lies in political history of this country." The aim of this thesis is to examine the role media played in the alleged "pre-election lie": how set the agenda(or drew on the topics) and how pre-election discourse involved the theme of state bankruptcy in the country, whose bonds were according to Bloomberg two months before parliamentary election in 2010 the eighth safest in the world. I examine the content of the most widely read weeklies Reflex, Respekt and Týden, respectively their May 2010 issues (election-month). I will proceed from the assumption that weeklies have the greatest potential to put events into the relevant context, and thereby significantly shape the discourse. This thesis uses the discourse (focusing on its ideological character according van Dijk's evidences) and semiotic (using the theory of Roland Barthes) analysis to detect any mythological elements concerning political parties and ideas in connection with the threat of state bankruptcy. The theoretical part focuses on the possible political consequences of media manipulation especially in the electoral process. I consider inspiring for the needs of this thesis evidence of the German sociologists Jürgen Habermas (of universal pragmatists)...
