Kratochvíl, Michal ; Křeček, Jan (advisor) ; Nečas, Vlastimil (referee)
The US presidential election is undoubtedly the most important foreign policy event regularly covered by the Czech media. In the case of the latter, the battle for the White House became one of the main topics of autumn 2020. All three main national broadcasters - TV Nova, CT and TV Prima - joined the battle for viewers. For the first time in history, the election results were broadcast simultaneously on these three TV stations. But what was the practice in the Czech media. In the United States, it is quite standard for media houses to lean towards one of the candidates, that the coverage is pro-Democratic or pro-Republican. This thesis examined how this phenomenon manifested itself in Czech TV stations. Thus, the research questions focused on the number of reports on each candidate, their tone, and the total time devoted to the election itself and to both candidates. Based on the data collection, the thesis assessed that TV stations did not give equal space to both candidates. By far more space was given to Donald Trump at the expense of Joe Biden. Moreover, Trump was more often portrayed in a negative sense. In this respect, Czech Television was the least balanced Czech TV station, while TV Prima was the best. However, it in turn offered the least American election coverage, with TV Nova having...

The thesis is focused on key canadian media - print, radio and television, in the individulal chapters I'm trying to describe their development as it is during the formative years and influenced, and what role it plays in today's Canada and which one of them has a privileged position in the country. Before that I was trying to deal with the history of Canada to clarify the roots all Canadian journalism and the media occurred. I also give attention to some selected major Canadian media personalities, whether those from the past and the present, who are in some way involved on what is today Canadian journalism, or the form of it's today. My attention did not miss either: the French-Canadian journalism, which about their form and the place on the map of the Canadian media fought for centuries. Its center is the Canadian province of Quebec. In my work, I also discuss how journalism is taught at several Canadian universities, how much of them offers a learning program and how they teach it. Whether the emphasis is more on theory or more practical. I write also about media education, which has been several years in Canada's history. My diploma thesis should primarily contribute to a clear comparison of how the depiction of the coronavirus pandemic differed by individual television channels in the first half of 2020.
Bloody Televizní noviny - reality or myth?
Kratochvíl, Michal ; Křeček, Jan (advisor) ; Vysloužilová, Kristýna (referee)
Televizní noviny, the main TV News program of TV Nova, has been perceived in the long term as the one which brings to people only negative news and stories full of blood. People often call it "Crime Chronicle", as according to a commonly acknowledged opinion, it consists only of accidents, murders, dead bodies, and violence. Nothing else. In this thesis, I will attempt to prove or refute this assumption - whether it is like that in reality or not. Therefore, an integral part of the thesis is a research which will examine what the real share of truly "bloody" news in Televizní noviny. In the next part, the bachelor thesis describes the history of TV news broadcasting in the world, in Czechoslovakia, and then also in the Czech Republic. Hence, the thesis will offer a view on the development of TV news, the content of individual news programs, and last but not least, on those who actually influence the content as such. The thesis also provides a overview of the history of TV Nova News and its position in Czech society since 1994 when TV Nova started broadcasting. The final part of the thesis is the analytical one; the results of the research are interpreted based on the theoretical part and historical background of TV Nova.
