Systematic evaluation of quality of palliative care in the Czech Republic

In both the social work and health sector, there is an increasing emphasis on monitoring and improving the quality of care and services provided. In both areas, quality standards are already established in wider practice and attention is therefore focused on monitoring the quality of services and care at a system level. However, this requires the availability of appropriate tools. This also applies to palliative care, which is developing rapidly in the Czech Republic and whose need will continue to increase as a result of the prolongation of life expectancy. The theoretical part of this dissertation shows, through the example of palliative care, the deeper interconnection of the social and health spheres. It occurs thanks to its holistic approach to the patient and the irreplaceable role of social workers in a multidisciplinary team. There is also a growing demand in palliative care for systematic quality monitoring and improvement of care and services. The theoretical part summarizes knowledge regarding the development and use of quality indicators, presents examples of systematic quality measurement in palliative care abroad and compares their strengths and weaknesses. A View on Reflection in Nursing and Social Work Education

In times of dynamic social changes and uncertainty, reflective practice becomes crucial for social work and nursing. This dissertation examines the epistemological foundations and the multidimensional nature of reflection within professional education from various theoretical perspectives tested through original empirical findings, which aim to prevent the reduction of reflection to a mere technique and instead promote dialogue, interdisciplinary cooperation, and participatory methods. Drawing on phenomenological and critical constructivist approaches deepens the understanding of educators' individual and collective experiences and reflective practices. The structure of the thesis corresponds to three empirical phases. The first phase investigates the characteristics of reflection and its developmental potential using SRIS and PHLMS questionnaires. The second phase, encompassing reflexive thematic analysis of interviews, addresses educators' views on reflection and their methods of promoting reflectivity among students. In the third phase, the work employs Q methodology to process and analyze various perspectives on reflection among educators. The social support of patients treatment at the Department of Pediatric Hematology and Oncology

Treating children with a malignant disease represents a very difficult situation for the patients and their families. The purpose of the thesis is to map social work, state help and support from non-profit organizations to families of children with cancer. Part of the work is a research investigation. The research was divided into three categories. The survey for families of children treated at the Pediatric Hematology and Oncology Clinic at the University Hospital Motol was made in the first part. The second part consists of an interview with a healthcare social worker. The third part is an analysis of the documentation of selected oncological patients. The main finding is - social work practice is sufficient. There is a variety of state social support, but it is very slow. Families are well informed about the possibilities of state social support. Families used financial support from the Good Angel Foundation and material support from other non-profit organizations. The respondents expressed interest in the information paper, the proposal of which is part of the thesis. Quality of management of social service providers

Social peace has a high political value in democratically functioning societies, especially in countries with a socialist past. Politicians are responsible for its achievement by creating appropriate legislative and financial conditions, as well as organizations and their managements, which perform the specified functions in the system. Social service providers have an important position in the performance of social work. While there are quality standards for social services, no sector-relevant model has yet been created for management quality. The aim of this dissertation is to create a quality model of social service provider management based on pragmatism and constructivism. This model is created as an intersection of knowledge contained in organization theory and the current legislative setting of the two legal forms of providers, which are associations and institutions. The theory of the organization is conceived in the work as a meta-theory consisting of three perspectives, which are saturated with content by a set of sub-theories. The relevance of the resulting model is tested in the environment of organizations that took top positions in the Nonprofit of the Year competition in 2013-2019. Equalising opportunities for pupils in the Czech educational system through the work of social pedagogues, social workers and other street-level bureaucrats.

This thesis discusses the possibilities of support for socially disadvantaged pupils in Czech primary schools by street-level bureaucrats in order to equalise their educational opportunities. Using a questionnaire survey, the thesis searches answers to the questions of what the support of disadvantaged pupils in Czech schools looks like, what organisational placement of street-level bureaucrats within the system can be effective for such support, and what support is appropriate for street-level bureaucrats themselves to perform their role well. The sub-results of the thesis are then claims that social pedagogues and social workers in schools, as well as social and other service workers outside schools, perceive support for disadvantaged pupils as part of their work and strive for it. A model of support inside and outside schools and effective collaboration between these actors therefore appears ideal. The fulfilment of the common goal of street-level bureauctrats is often hampered by inadequate working conditions, which should be systematically improved in order to improve the quality of line workers' work.

Role of social worker - challenges and limits of work

1 Abstract The diploma thesis "The role of a social worker in a psychiatric hospital - challenges and limits of work" deals with the profession of a social worker in a psychiatric hospital. The diploma thesis normally consists of a theoretical and an empirical part. The theoretical part is focused on mental illness, the characteristics of serious mental illness, the profession of a social worker working in a psychiatric hospital, multidisciplinary cooperation, the specifics of working with the mentally ill, the reform of psychiatric care and the organization of inpatient psychiatric care in the Czech Republic. In the empirical part, the qualitative research methodology is described and the data, which are the result of semi-structured interviews with social workers and their clients, are interpreted. At the end of the thesis, the main research question is answered, recommendations for practice and proposals for further research are included.
