Light pollution regulation alternatives Abstract This diploma thesis deals with the subject of light pollution, the harmful effects of artificial (anthropogenic) light on natural nocturnal environment. The issue was first brought up some decades ago by astronomers whose night sky observations started to be obstructed by sky glow - one of the three types of light pollution. But there are far more reasons to re-evaluate the way and intensity with which we illuminate our surroundings. The natural day/night cycle and the way it changes throughout the year regulates the timing of biological processes of almost all life on Earth. Its disruption affects the orientation, reproduction and development of most animal and plant species. Humans are no exception - night-time artificial light exposure can lead to sleep disorders, depression, cardiovascular diseases and even increases the prevalence of some types of cancer. The first chapter of this thesis focuses on the complexity of the issue that is light pollution. The rest of it deals with the possible ways of regulating it. Chapter two presents a summary of supranational efforts to minimize light pollution from all relevant fields, including the steps taken by the European Union so far. Shakespearean Themes in the Works of Oscar Wilde

In my master thesis, I will concentrate on Oscar Wilde's usage of William Shakespeare's work and its influence on some of his chosen texts. Special attention will be paid to The Picture of Dorian Gray, The Portrait of Mr. W. H., and the essay The Truth of Masks, one of Wilde's earliest known works. My thesis will methodologically make use of intertextuality, especially based on the concept of artistic influence written by Harold Bloom in The Western Canon and possibly other publications, too. Bloom describes William Shakespeare as the core of the Western canon to whom younger authors, including Wilde other Victorians, and also Joyce, refer to either polemically or in agreement. If needed, comparations might be used in my thesis as well. Oscar Wilde vastly references the plays and poetry of William Shakespeare in his work. Simultaneously, Shakespeare influenced Wilde in his personal life - for example in his defence during his trails or when he partook in the opening of Shakespeare's memorial. The goal of my thesis is to map Oscar Wilde's understanding of the character of William Shakespeare and the difference in his approach to Shakespeare in the comparation of the traditional Victorian perspective. Radoslav P a s s i a Aesthetics of Periphery and Border (To Selected Aspects of Periphery and Border Phenomenon in Slovak Literature of the 20th Century in Central European Context) Abstract The dissertation deals with selected aspects of periphery and border phenomenon in Slovak literature of the 20th century in Central European context. In the preliminary chapter Border the author focuses particularly on selected texts by Central European writers which are thematically set in the Eastern Carpathians. This radically multiethnic region is considered to be one of the relatively independent cultural areas of Central Europe by the author. Narrative perspectives of a stranger, outcast, migrant in combination with the themes of border and conflict between vernacular and alien are characteristic for the literary image of the Eastern Carpathian border area in the 20th century. The author looks at the way the literary appearance of this area is ideologically deformed in the works of individual authors. Three stories between East and West: "Virtuous young man", "Divine lover", "Sacrifice of a child"

The thesis deals with the realization of three narratives -"Virtuous Young Man", "Divine Lover", and "Sacrifice of a Child"- in diverse literatures of East and West. Basic form, characters/(arche)types, and motifs and their possible variations depending on cultural, literary, and religious/mythological setting are presented for each plot. Using historical and comparative poetics, each plot is analysed from the first extant adaptations in European and non-European literatures to the modern ones. The thesis puts an emphasis on specification and configuration of particular motifs, variations depending on the religious-mythological context, and tension between the same and different, general pattern and specific realization, type and character.

Karel Krejčí's Comparative Approaches in his Understanding of Czech and Polish Literature

The thesis documents and interprets the conflict between the literary discourses of the time on the one hand, and the specific approach of Karel Krejčí (1904-1979), comparatist, Slavist and Czech studies scholar, on the other hand. Based on the Krejčí's studies on literary history and comparative literature, as well as his participation in the methodological debates of his time, the thesis analyses the impact of this conflict on the author's literary theory method, and his work of a literary historian and comparatist in general. The analysis is based on the ambiguous reception of Krejčí's scientific work: while he is recognised as a great personality in the field of Slavic studies, he is considered an outsider in the general context of Czech literary science. The thesis describes how the author, with his methodological approach, was in opposition to the prevailing trend. As a Slavic studies scholar he criticised the 'influence science' and positivist methods employed in the field. In the period between the two world wars he inclined towards the sociology of literature, although this discipline did not become popular. Magic fairytale and its metamorphoses in works of 17th to 19th century

Abstact This bachelor thesis focuses on examining the development of fairytales with an emphasis on literary adaptations of magic fairytales of the 17th to the 19th century. It consists of theoretical and practical parts. The first chapter discusses the basic characteristics of fairytales, its definition, features, classification. Furthermore, the work deals with theories about the origin of folktales and ways of their analysis from a scientific point of view. At the end of the this part fairytales are analysed as a literary genre. The second part represents writers Charles Perrault, Brothers Grimm, Karel Jaromír Erben Božena Němcová. Each of these authors approaches to their fairytale works in a different way, which is described in this section. In chapters of each writer, we first learn about their biography, as well as the time in which they lived, along with its historical and social background and last but not least, with their literary production with an emphasis on fairytale work. The last chapter contains a practical part of thesis. There is comparison of two magic fairytales, that appear in the works of authors from the second chapter. A comparison between Manslaughter in the English and Czech law

1 A comparison between Manslaughter in the English and Czech law Abstract The thesis compares the Czech and English legal regulations of the crime of manslaughter. As such, it is divided into an introduction, six parts and a conclusion. It aims to provide not only a comprehensive analysis of the crime of manslaughter in both legal orders, including a subsequent comparison, but also the possible adoption of certain institutes from one legal order to the other. In the first part, it deals with the issue of the differences between the two legal systems, i.e., continental and Anglo-Saxon, as well as with the general interpretation of the crime of murder and manslaughter. In doing so, it introduces the structure of the formal sources, the interrelationship between murder and manslaughter, and the terminology of manslaughter in England. In the second part, it provides an analysis of the facts of the crime of manslaughter, with the actus reus and the mens rea being analysed more extensively than through the fragmentary optics of the crime of manslaughter. Particular emphasis is then placed on causation. Protection of personal rights in continental system and common law

With the increased global infringement of personal rights, it is necessary to be aware of the protection in the different legal systems, especially Anglo-American. Even if the consequences are to be felt in the domestic legal order, the enforceability is recognized under the foreign legal order. The protection is worldwide and through the case law from the European Court of Human Rights the two legal systems - Common law and the Civil Law are penetrating the legislation and the case law in respect of the institute of the protection of personal rights. The doctorate thesis presents the complex introduction to the area of protection of personal rights in the Common law, especially in English law, Commonwealth countries and USA that has not been presented yet for the Czech legal professionals. The thesis explains theoretical concept of the Common law and its background for the purpose of explanation of differences of examined legal orders. The institute is explained on the key historical case law that led to establish the Common law principles. The thesis uses the current and topical legal cases and problems that the orders face in the 21st Century.
