The ethic in works of T.G.Masaryk
DUŠKOVÁ, Helena
Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk was an influential person of the modern history. Today, people know him more as a president of the Czechoslovak Republic. However, T. G. Masaryk was not only a politician, but also a philosopher with strong moral principles. The aim of my work was to bring some of T. G. Masaryk?s books back to life, and focus on the ethical principles that are included in his work. I consider T. G. Masaryk?s intellectual heritage to be still valid. I focused on particular essays that T. G. Masaryk wrote and choose his most important ethical thoughts within there texts through a precise analysis. I choose his books ?Ideály humanitní?, ?Sebevražda hromadným jevem společenské osvěty?, ?O škole a vzdělání? and the lecture ?O ženě? as the basis of my work. In the practical part of my work, I examined the knowledge of the students of the Faculty of Health and Social Studies at the University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice through a survey. I set three hypotheses for this inquiry. The results of my research show that students know biographical facts about T. G. Masaryk well, they make mistakes in the identification of his books, have only partial knowledge of his life philosophy and that none of the students has ever read any of his books.

Křížová, Magdalena ; Oliverius, Jaroslav (referee) ; Šedinová, Jiřina (advisor)
The thesis aims to summarize our existing knowledge about the time of composition and the litcrary context oť an important historiographical work oť the Middle Ages - the so-called Sefer .Josippon. The thesis is divided into three main parts: the tirst one is concerned with critical comparison oť di ťferent conjectures regarding the origins of the boo k, the second attempts to interpret tbc book ťrom the point oťthe history oťJewish literature ofthat period and the tinal part consists ofa C zech translation oť three short extracts of the boo k, that are chosen to demonstrate the styl i sti cal and artistic techniques of the author and his way oť handl ing with hi s literary sources. The tirst part starts with deťining the problem of the authorship of the book. We have shown that Seťcr .fosippon wasn't originally writtcn as pseudo-epigraphical book, but it was traditionally ascribed to Josephus Flavius (called here ,Joseph ben Gorion''. a mistake caused by misunderstandig oť.Josippon ·s sourccs) only later, while in thc original text oťthis chronicle often quotes Josephus as its primary source oť inťormation. The question oťthe causes and time ofthis ascribement has not been succesťully solved. since already in the I O th century the book i s refered to as .,book oť Joseph ben Corion"". Emerson's influence on women in works of Nathaniel Hawthorne
Teršová, Tereza ; Robbins, David Lee (advisor) ; Veselá, Pavla (referee)
Due to its emphasis on the concepts of self-reliance, inner guidance and the aboriginal Self, Ralph Waldo Emerson's philosophy elaborates theses that favor the individual over community, such as the superiority and sanctity of self-definition, as opposed to definitions constructed by society and imposed on the individual. It is possible, then, to perceive his philosophy as important for the formation of the Women's Rights Movement and for the emerging feminism. In his four romances, Nathaniel Hawthorne creates female protagonists who advocate for women's right to self-reliance as Emerson describes it. Hawthorne's heroines can be understood and interpreted as contemplating the Emersonian principles, thus illustrating the connection between Emerson's philosophy, and themes and motifs present in Hawthorne's romances. Related to Hawthorne's portrayal of the heroines' reflections on the concepts of inner guidance, the aboriginal Self, moral dereliction and self-reliance is Hawthorne's attitude toward the relationship between "womanhood" and "femininity" on one side, and "manhood" and "masculinity" on the other side. The ambivalence of woman, as depicted by Hawthorne, consists in the discrepancy between attributes traditionally associated with "femininity", such as devotion, affection and humility, and the will...

Korupce v křesťanském národě: „Ovlivňuje křesťanská víra úroveň korupce ve společnosti?“
Kraus, František ; Houdek, Petr (advisor) ; Svoboda, Miroslav (referee)
What are the determinants of corruption? This thesis builds upon contemporary approaches to assessing the level of corruption in different countries using purely economic determinants such as the aggregate income, level of education, openness to trade or taxation. This method is further enhanced by involving variables mapping the religiosity of the surveyed states as institutional determinants. Faith works as an agent that reduces selfish behavior and stresses moral values, thus it should prove to reduce corruption. The dataset involves data of 30 countries of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) in the years 1999-2010. Two independent OLS models are set up using corruption perception indicators as endogenous variables; one with purely economic determinants, and the other with added religious determinants of corruption. Expansion of the model gives out a more robust set of results with greater determination. The results show that increasing number of Protestants in a society correlates with lower levels of corruption. The effect of the government spending on education has been considerably reduced after involving the religious variables. However, corruption does not seem to be influenced by the percentage of Christians in total population.

REFORM OF HEALTH SERVICE
Hanáčková, Michaela ; Munzi, Tomáš (advisor) ; Vebrová, Ludmila (referee)
In doing my thesis, I wanted to compare the medical health care systems of the United States and the Czech Republic. I did the analysis for these two countries because their medical systems are quite different. United States applies a form of medical health that is based on the principle of free choice and competition in the market where as the Czech social system uses compulsory insurance for every citizen. My goal was to clarify which system is the more efficient method for quality health care. In the theoretical part, we are dealing with specifics of the health care market and I outline aspects of the methods used to combat moral hazard. The analytical part consists of a framework to clarify the differences in the systems, evaluate their positive and negative aspects and how each system impacts the individual residents of each country. In the final part of this work I will try to propose a solution that would improve the situation of medical health care in the Czech Republic and the United States of America.

Value inclinations of czech journalists on example of socially marginalised squatters
Havlíková, Magdalena ; Vochocová, Lenka (advisor) ; Reifová, Irena (referee)
In my work I am dealing with the value inclinations of Czech journalists from the newspaper Mladá fronta Dnes, the tabloid Blesk (including the Sunday issue Nedělní Blesk) and the magazine Reflex. I have focused on the articles written about socially marginalized squatters in the years 2000, 2008 and 2009. I am interested in the values present in this discourse and what position will these values take towards squatters. In the theoretical part I explain concepts like hegemony, binary us-them, moral panics and body discipline, which will help me in my analysis. Recognized values are put into categories and subcategories according to their content. I describe the development of values within categories in different years. Finally I compare the values of the analyzed media.

The first and last word. The genesis of style of Jakub Deml in the initial critical, editorial and poetic works from the years 1896-1907
Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)

Philosophy of Jaroslava Pešková
Rybák, David ; Hogenová, Anna (advisor) ; Krámský, David (referee) ; Schlegelová, Jaroslava (referee)
Our main theme in this work is the philosophical thinking of Jaroslava Pešková, one of the most important Czech philosophers. The problem, which we start with, is the situation of marxist philosophy in 50th and 60th of the 20th century and the position of Jaroslava Pešková in this period and in the Czech philosophy in general. Instead of summation of all the subject in her texts, we rather want to realize the "deep exploration" of the philosophical basis, from which Jaroslava Pešková thinks, and which is not visible at first sight, even for readers familiar with philosophy. This philosophical ground we see in the concept of human being, which is not only in the worldly relations (economical, sociological, political, juridical, psychological, biological etc. etc.), but has a relation to all of these relations. To this structure and its philosophical ground we are trying to take an acccss and to make it visible in our probes into the key themes of Jaroslava Pešková's thinking. The philosophical and ideological movement from marxist to phenomenological philosophy wasn't thematized by marxist thinkers such as Jiří Pešek, Jaroslava Pešková or Karel Kosík. Also this lap we are trying to fill.
