Circadian rhythms in human life - elaboration of the topic with elements of the flipped classroom teaching method
Křivohlavá, Tereza ; Mourek, Jan (advisor) ; Manková, Denisa (referee)
The thesis deals with an alternative teaching method called the flipped classroom, which was applied in the practical part to the topic of the biology of circadian rhythms. In the flipped classroom method, the phases of teaching are switched. Study material is created for the students and presented to them for home study before the class. In the actual teaching, there is then more time for clarifying ambiguities or consolidating material, which is the main advantage of the flipped classroom. Circadian rhythms are biorhythms repeating with a period of approximately 24 hours. The circadian system is controlled by the central circadian clock in the suprachiasmatic nuclei of the hypothalamus. These circadian clocks are synchronized by environmental stimuli, predominantly light. In the case of irregular artificial lighting, the body's circadian clock desynchronizes and disturbances in mood, cognitive performance, or physical health can occur. In the frame of the practical part of the thesis, a video was created to introduce students to the topic of circadian rhythms. In addition, worksheet assignments were created to practice and deepen students' knowledge of biological rhythms, as well as the design of an entire teaching unit with flipped classroom elements. Everything was tested on 4 groups of the...
Using STEAM in Teaching of Selected Topics in Human Biology at Lower Secondary Level
NEUBAUEROVÁ, Marcela
The aim of the diploma thesis was to create six original didactic games enriched with STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Mathematics) elements for primary school pupils and to test them in practice. Four didactic games were primarily created for the purpose of knowledge acquisition (skeletal system, muscular system and circulatory system topics) and two didactic games were created for the purpose of knowledge consolidation. The didactic games were tested in a mainstream primary school located in a South Bohemian city with a population of around 100 000. The validation in practice was carried out by means of a pretest, a posttest I and a posttest II. As a follow-up, selected students were assigned to independently develop their own games using the game principles they had been taught in class (using all STEAM elements).

Vacková, Veronika ; Kasíková, Hana (advisor) ; Koťa, Jaroslav (referee)
The purpose of this thesis is to introduce game as a teaching and educational method. Game is the most natural activity of a child. Therefore, every teacher should be familiar with possibilities of classifying games into educational activities. There are many definitions of games, I mention some of them in my work, and I also present examples of games, classified according to their specialization. I tried to contain important factors that operate on the proper course of the healthy and active game. As part of my pedagogical practice, I applied the selected games to students and I tried to affect their effectiveness and popularity. One part of my work is a chapter about games in different developmental stages. I present the possible games, toys and activities, appropriate and proportionate to different developmental steps. The result is a theoretical base I would like to develop in my next research.

Common mistakes Czech students make in English and their Remedial Treatment
Ganev, Ondřej ; Dvořák, Bohuslav (advisor) ; Hofmannová, Marie (referee)
Common mistakes Czech students make in English represent the main topic of the presented master thesis. The theoretical part mainly deals with the presentation of various TEFL (Teaching English as Foreign Language) methods. Moreover, they are discussed from several perspectives, including techniques, strategies and principles while using the particular method, the role of the teacher, his or her relationship with students, and especially the response to errors within each of the methods. The purpose of presenting TEFL methods is to show also the connection between mistakes and methods themselves. Concerning the area of mistakes and their corrections, we focus on the classification of mistakes and their division. The practical part is based on various illustrations of mistakes from students' writing assignments. These mistakes are divided into four major classes, including grammar, spelling, wrong word and word order. The thesis also deals with the remedial treatment which may hopefully reduce the number of possible mistakes. The aim of the thesis is to compare the level of students' English language knowledge at the Secondary School of Tourism in Prague where the author works as an English teacher.
