Mental strain at school and its management in relation to self-efficacy in secondary school students
KAPROVÁ, Aneta
This diploma thesis deals with the topic of mental strain at school and its management in relation to self-efficacy of secondary school students. It is divided into two parts - the theoretical and the empirical. The theoretical one presents the issues of mental strain and stress through the basic terms, concepts and theories of psychology. Primarily it focuses on the context of school environment: namely the classification of stressors, sources and modifiers of school stress - that is manifestations and consequences of stress events. Next, it deals with the stress management illustrating coping strategies. Furthermore, the work puts emphasis on personality determinants of perception and coping with mental strain. This theoretical part is concluded by the chapter which describes characteristics of adolescents in relation to taking mental strain. The empirical part aims at the research of mental strain in the secondary school environment that intends to prove the existence of a relationship between the evaluation of mental strain of secondary school students, preferred coping strategies and self-efficacy (general self-efficiency). A partial objective is to explore the relationship of presented variables with other demographic determinants (age, gender, field of study). The intention is to map the occurrence of school stressors in the research set of secondary school students in terms of assessing their incidence and intensity of emotional assessment and to find out whether there is a link between these two aspects (frequency of occurrence and intensity of stress). The research is carried out through a quantitative research strategy. The questionnaire battery includes three questionnaires: Stress Management Strategy (SVF 78), Stress Situation Questionnaire (DSS 47), General Self-Efficacy Scale (GSES). The research sample consists of 212 students of secondary technical school. In our research findings, a significant positive relationship between the rate of school stressors and the intensity of perceived mental strain was confirmed. The results showed statistically significant relationships between stress intensity, self-efficacy and preferred coping strategies. The empirical part lists all the results of our research including their discussion and limitations.

Lipčáková, Iveta ; Kucharská, Anna (advisor) ; Kučerová, Olga (referee)
This diploma thesis deals with the topic of self-esteem and self-efficacy among adults who suffer from a specific learning disability. The aim of the research was to find out how a specific learning disability affects the practice of teaching and work self-efficacy of teachers. Based on a research of studies that have been published, a semi-structured interview was prepared and conducted with university students of education and teachers with a specific learning disability. The Ohio Teacher Efficacy Scale (OSTES) questionnaire was also used as an additional method for measuring teachers' work self- efficacy. The results of the research revealed specific difficulties that the respondents faced during their studies at the university. In addition to the ways in which a specific learning disability can limit practice of teaching, the research findings also suggested the positive benefits of the disability. It was found that the respondents have a relatively high work self-efficacy. The research also described the various negative experiences related to the specific learning disability that the respondents encountered during their lifetime. Despite these experiences, the respondents expressed a positive general self-concept.

Šťastná, Jana ; Kollerová, Lenka (advisor) ; Richterová, Magdalena (referee)
This thesis examines self-efficacy in dealing with cyberbullying as a key factor that influences the ability of prospective teachers to intervene effectively in cases of cyberbullying. The level of self-efficacy will be investigated with respect to other significant factors, which are awareness of cyberbullying, condemnation of cyberbullying, and evaluation of university preparation to adress cyberbullying. Cyberbullying is a widespread phenomenon in schools abroad and in the Czech Republic, and it is teachers who play a key role in identifying and dealing with cases of cyberbullying. For this reason, it is essential that future teachers are aware of the phenomenon of cyberbullying and are prepared to deal with it effectively in the context of the teaching profession. The aim of this study is to use a quantitative research to map the situation regarding cyberbullying in relation to prospective teachers and to explore the relationships between self-efficacy and i) awareness of cyberbullying ii) level of cyberbullying condemnation and iii) evaluation of university preparation to address cyberbullying. In the questionnaire, respondents consisting of an available sample of 140 student teachers (mean age: 21.8 years; 92.1 % female and 7.9 % male) answered questions related to their awareness of...
Math self-efficacy of children at primary school
Vozková, Anna ; Smetáčková, Irena (advisor) ; Pavelková, Isabella (referee)
Self-efficacy significantly influences human functioning. It is not only individual's belief about his capabilities but also what he thinks he can achieve with them. This bachelor's theses is concerned with a specific domain of self-efficacy in mathematics and also with variables related to mathematics. The theoretical part summarizes a basic theoretical background of self-efficacy with an emphasis on the self- efficacy concept from Albert Bandura. Other parts involve topics such as academic self-efficacy, mathematical self-efficacy and gender differences in mathematical performance and attitude toward mathematics. The empirical part describes the realized research. Its goal was to find out the measure of self-efficacy of children in four grade of elementary school. The research was also focused on a relationship between self-efficacy and other variables (performance in mathematics, grades in mathematics, identification with mathematics) and concerned with a question whether there are any gender differences in math self-efficacy and in those other variables. Methods used in this research were two kinds of questionnaires and a mathematical test. Results of this research suggest that there are no gender differences in mathematical self-efficacy, neither in other variables. On the other hand, there were some...

Ptáčková, Barbora ; Smetáčková, Irena (advisor) ; Páchová, Anna (referee)
TITLE: Self efficacy of girls and boys in mathematics in adolescence AUTHOR: Barbora Ptáčková DEPARTMENT: Department of Psychology SUPERVISOR: PhDr. Irena Smetáčková, Ph.D. ABSTRACT: The central term of this thesis is the concept of Albert Bandura self efficacy which is applied to the field of mathematics. The theoretical part focuses on defining the concept of self efficacy and trying to put it into the context of adolescence, school environment, school results and gender issues. I also deal with the performance of pupils in mathematics and last but not least, the issue of gender. The aim of the empirical part is to chart the relationship between self efficacy, evaluation of their own success, knowledge, skills and attitudes to mathematics (identification with mathematics, popularity of mathematics) and see if there are any differences between girls and boys in how they relate to their abilities in mathematics. The research sample consisted of 55 students - girls and boys from primary schools, the year 8. The results were obtained by using our established research tools: questionnaires on the level of self efficacy in mathematics, general questionnaire and mathematical test with evaluation of their own success. The research didn't confirmed the difference between girls and boys in self efficacy in...
Learner Autonomy in English classes at a Czech Secondary Technical School
Minakova, Irina ; Jettmarová, Zuzana (advisor) ; Hanušová, Světlana (referee) ; Bilanová, Markéta (referee)
This dissertation explores the efficacy of the learner autonomy (LA) principles implemented in secondary technical school EFL classes through project-based units incorporated into the conventional four-year language curriculum (2011-2015). This integrated approach remains uncommon in a Czech secondary technical school, even though it suggests a teaching model that enhances ELA and increases communicative competence and motivation among learners. A mixed-method design based on longitudinal four-cycle action research and quasi-experiment approaches was selected (1) to examine the changes in self-regulation and academic achievement development over time; (2) to investigate the efficacy of autonomous projects systematically applied within the assigned treatment group (TG), and (3) to compare the results of the treatment and control groups as to their self-regulation and academic achievement development. For the quantitative strand, a structured Self-Regulation Questionnaire (SRQ-A) and a series of academic tests were administered which were consequently analysed through null hypothesis statistical testing (NHST). The instruments employed within the quasi-experiment were focused on the following two major questions: (1) whether there was correlation between self- regulation and academic achievement...
