Workplace: Department of Kinanthropology and Humanities Supervisor of the work: doc. PhDr. Martin Musálek, Ph.D Year of presentation: 2021 Abstract Motor development in children is often linked to the development of cognitive or executive functions. Nevertheless, it still remains unclear how much the level of children's motor proficiency can impact the level of nonverbal intelligence, which is an important part of academic achievement of children. Objectives: The aim of the dissertation thesis is to determine the level of influence and its stability in time between the level of motor proficiency and the performance in the nonverbal aspect of intelligence in younger school-age children with age (categories: 6 - 7 years, 8 - 9 years and 10 -11 years) and sex being considered. Methods: The research sample consisted of 396 children (n=214 girls, n=182 boys) aged 6 - 11 years (age 8,9±1.3) from two elementary schools (Karlovy Vary Region, Prague). The children were divided into 3 groups by age: 6 - 7 years, 8 - 9 years, 10 - 11 years. The...
Appearance of persistint primary reflexes of children in preschool and primary education
Kindlová, Barbora ; Volemanová, Marja Annemiek (advisor) ; Zulić, Marija (referee)
The diploma thesis focuses on persistent primary reflexes in younger school age children, their connection with the correct psychomotor development and insight ainto the connection of specific learning and behavioral disorders with persistent primary reflexes. In the theoretical part, the author describes the psychomotor development of a child based on the findings of developmental psychology and neurophysiology. The next part characterizes the primary reflexes and their influence on specific learning disabilities. At the end of the theoretical part, the author presents programs that are used to inhibit persistent primary reflexes in the Czech republic. In the empirical part of the work, the author describes the diagnosis implementation of persistent primary reflexes in younger school age children via test forms. The author presents the results using tables and graphs. The author confirms the assumption of the occurence of the highest values of persistent primary reflexes in the preparátory class children and states the percentage occurence of persistent primary reflexes in all tested groups. KEYWORDS Persisting primary reflexes, psychomotor development, specific learning disabilities
influence of persistent primitive reflexes of psychomotor development in children with cerebral palsy
Liscová, Irena ; Hájková, Vanda (advisor) ; Volemanová, Marja Annemiek (referee)
The diploma thesis is focused on psychomotor development in children with cerebral palsy in context of persisting primitive reflexes. Opening chapters summarize theoretical knowledge about cerebral palsy, its etiology, clinical picture, forms and comprehensive diagnostics, including special education. The next part of the thesis focuses on psychomotor development of a child with cerebral palsy, in particular the gross and fine motor activity development and speech development. The main section of the thesis discusses the neurophysiological principles of primitive reflexes and their relevance for early development of a child. The primitive reflexes, one by one, as well as the influence of their persistence on the psychomotor development of the child with cerebral palsy and options of their integration by selected therapeutic concepts are presented. Attention is also paid to the importance of multidisciplinary cooperation of medical rehabilitation and special pedagogical care in the field of primitive reflexology. The practical part is based on qualitative methodology ad its operates with data gained from three case studies. The aim of the diploma thesis is to examine by means of case studies whether or not the integration of primitive reflexes demonstrably improves the psychomotor skills, behavior,...
Possibilities of Motor Skills Assessment at Preschool Children
Bačíková, Miroslava ; Felcmanová, Lenka (advisor) ; Mlčková, Marie (referee)
This diploma thesis introduces the options for motor skills assessment of preschool children in the pedagogical and health care setting. This thesis is divided into two parts - theoretical and practical part. In the theoretical part, the author describes the psychomotor development of a child with a focus on the preschool period. The following chapter provides an overview of pedagogical and healthcare professions that mostly focus on the psychomotor development matters. The following chapters analyse the options for motor skills diagnostics in preschool children, including an overview of the most commonly used tests. In the practical part, a set of diagnostic tasks was created for the purpose of rough estimation of motor skills levels of preschool children. The suggested task set was then put to a clinical trial in five kindergartens in two cities in the Czech Republic. The practical part consists of a description of individual tasks in the task set, their evaluation, description of the used sample of children, administration of the task set and collection of data in accordance with stated ethical principles of research. There data is then presented, analysed and the resolving power of the task set is evaluated. The addendum of the practical part contains suggested modifications of the diagnostic...
Impairment of psychomotor development in children with cerebral palsy, possibility of therapeutic intervention
Drnovcová, Marie ; Sedlak, Petr (advisor) ; Dvořáková, Hana (referee)
This bachelor thesis aims to summarize basic important knowledge about cerebral palsy. In the first part it deals with a definition of cerebral palsy, risk factors that causes it and with possible ways of its division. The second part focuses on psychomotor development in the first two years of living and on comparison of physiological development with development of children with cerebral palsy and related to that also early diagnosis and initiation of treatment. And that exactly is the focus of the last part of this thesis, where the main treatment methods are mentioned together with additional therapies such as hippotherapy. The conclusion carries a discussion about the knowledge we have about cerebral palsy, if it is enough for its adequate treatment, and what the efficiency of the currently available therapies is and how it influences the quality of life of the handicapped pacient. Key words: cerebral palsy, psychomotor development, therapy, disabilities, risk factors
Postural therapy based on dynamic neuromuscular stabilization of children in infancy
JANOUŠKOVÁ, Veronika
This bachelor thesis deals with the topic of postural therapy with dynamic neuromuscular stabilization in infants. The proper development of the child plays an important role in his or her further development. Importantly, early control and fixing of the development may prevent various pathological states. The thesis is divided into the theoretical and the practical part. In the theoretical part, I described the psychomotor development of the child from the prenatal period to the infant age. Further, I describe pathological locomotor developmental stages. An important part of the thesis is also the diagnosis and evaluation of the motor development based on the examination of postural spontaneous activity, position responses, primitive reflexes and assessment of the muscle tone. In the next chapter of the theoretical part, the axial organ was described. At the end of the theoretical part, I discussed the possibilities of postural therapy in infants. In the practical part, I examined infants with slight deviations in psychomotor development. Subsequently, I applied a therapy, namely dynamic neuromuscular stabilization, in order to achieve the greatest possible improvement. I decided to use the DNS concept due to the fact that it allows targeting of the postural and locomotive functions. The practical part of my work was done on the basis of case studies, which contain the initial examination, the process of the therapy and the final assessment. The kinesiology summarizes anamnesis, postural activity, position responses, primitive reflexes and muscle tone. In the conclusion, the results were described and the success of the therapy was evaluated. I noticed significant improvement in each of the patients. Therefore, this work might help to expand the application of the DNS concept to such young patients as well.
